Law & Order Multiverse 2009-2010 - Page 2

God, who didn't see that ending coming a mile away?

There's a thread on Television Without Pity where they make fun of the SVU episode titles and rename them, sometimes basing it on whatever celebrity was in it. It's not that funny of a thread, but one person knocked it out the park by renaming "Slaves" (which starred Andrew McCarthy as a psycho who captures women and holds them hostage in boxes in his home) to "What About Prom, Blaine?" I know, sick, but I still laughed.
That ending with Van Buren was gut-wrenching. My heart sunk watching that.
I have always loved how Law and Order could create meaningful character moments using only a few minutes out of each episode. The scenes with Benjamin Bratt and then Van Buren at home seem more authentic and thus more moving because they don't dwell on them.

It has never been the best show on TV, but managing to be a damned fine show for twenty years is amazing to me. It's a feat that I don't think has ever or will ever be matched.
Didn't watch the mother ship. What happened?

I've been watching some old, first season SVU episodes. The quality may have gone down, but the production values have gone way up.
Benjamin Bratt's character returned briefly to bury his wife, which dovetailed nicely with the captain's ongoing struggle with cancer. All very understated, and far more effective than "a very special episode", which is what lesser shows would do...

Btw, with the ratings it's pulling now, it's looking more likely that there will be a season 21.
Bratt's aged well. He came off better last night than he ever did in the earlier years. I don't know if they're moving to replace the captain, but I've grown to like Van Buren. Merkeson's grown into the role - she's one of the old guard at last.
She's been around as far back as the Ben Stone era. Hard to imagine L&O without her.
The mothership coming back next season. If you're surprised, you shouldn't be.
I'll always be loyal to the mothership and all it's spin-off ducklings (despite that crazy-ass ending to SVU last night!). This is great news.
I don't know which show I'm watching (edit: the rapey one) but Jimmy Olsen from the old Superman TV show just had three lines as an HIV positive rapist's grandpa.

L&O doesn't get shit right on the Federal level often anyway but so far this SVU is mega-LOLs. The churchy broad from Studio 60 is ridiculous.
Why the fuck was Naveen Andrews guest starting? He was great and all, but still.

Sadly this was one of the better put together episodes in past few seasons.

Hahaha, the ending. Oh man.
Now that's the Studio 60 I wanted to see.

One hysterical line was Benson telling Paulson that SVU would protect her from the guy stalking her. Sure Olivia, this season you've only had 4 people killed, while in your custody. At this point, Manhattan SVU is more dangerous than Cabot Cove.
Heh. I liked Ice T playing the hitman.
Wow. Sisto and Anderson look like they've lost weight. Maybe it's just them shaving the beards? And J.K. Simmons is back? Fuck yeah.
Sisto looks better with the scruff. See KIDNAPPED.

Oh man, the return of SKODA? Awesome.

Anyone watch the Rape Show double-header last night? Good lord, SO terrible. Kathy Griffin and her awful plastic surgery need to go away.
L&O: Classic has really been bringing it lately. The past 3 episodes have been really good.
I don't think I could go through with any legal strategy that made Alana de la Garza mad at me...
Caught Law & Order tonight while eating dinner and it was surprisingly good. This current cast is as good as any they've ever had, and Linus Roache flat out rocked his big plea bargain scene. Then again I'm frankly shocked that this show can still offer anything.
Yeah Roache owned it last night. That whole scene was pitch perfect.

This show really has regained the groove it lost. But cast wise you still can't top the Orbach/Noth/Bratt/Waterston years.

I just learned that Erbe and D'Onoforio are going to be leaving L&O:CI. Any thoughts on how? The franchise has never disappointed me on character exits, so I'm certain it will wrap up well, but all the same I'm interested to hear the theories.

Haven't been keeping up with classic, but based on these reviews I might try to get back into it.

Check the first page I think there are some links to articles that describe what goes down.

They should change the name of SVU to Cariacture Victims Unit. Holy smokes. I understand Diora Baird's character was supposed to be pretty wacky but come on. Also, interesting to see that Radzinsky from LOST only plays huge dickheads.

Anyone know who is replacing Cabot this time? Is the mean ADA from a season or two ago coming back?
The Judith Light character is coming back? God, she was a cunt.
I swear I read in TV Guide a few weeks back that Sharon Stone was coming aboard to play the ADA for the rest of the season.

She comes back everyone once in a while. She's a judge now so when they want a judge who needs to be a real hard-ass or have some important Women's Rights stuff they go to her.

Ah! The link expired. I suppose I have to wait and find out like everyone else.

I didn't read through the whole thing, but it's a fairly in-depth interview with Goldblum. I did find out that Ralph Macchio was going to be on this season. They don't mention in what capacity, but I am secretly hoping it's exactly like his Entourage cameo.

I appreciate the direction! Sadly, the link no longer works, so it appears I missed my chance to find out. Haha, I'll ride it out.

I did try to track it down, but instead stumbled upon a VERY in-depth Goldblum interview. He did mention the karate kid himself, Ralph Macchio will be making an appearance.

Man, they really pumped up the appearance of the big dude from THE BLIND SIDE quite a bit considering he was only on for, like, 10 minutes. The case was pretty sad/gross, too. Hargitay looked amazing.
A win and a loss. Was really hoping Cutter would just let it go.
Pretty good start for the CI 2 parter. A little surprised about the kill. But glad it wasn't who I was expecting.
My mother met Goldblum on New Years Eve and told him he was great on CI. Is she correct or do I have to yell at her?
I just hope part 2 doesn't mean they're also getting rid of Goren!
People who don't keep up on the show: Cap, Cassady.

Goldblum's on the show now, JCass. Cap, read the thread.
Caught up now, and it sucks. Oh well, I guess I understand it from a ratings point of view, I like Goren but maybe they're right and he doesn't have the mass appeal needed to sustain this type of show. I think this is a big mistake, but you know, I hated the fact that every week it was a different team, that never made sense to me in the first place.
It was also probably a money issue, because you don't ask Dick Wolf for more money than Dick Wolf thinks you deserve, and also because they've made Goren dark and emo, which doesn't fit with the lighter tone of USA's "brand", and finally, because D'Onfrio is crazy as a bughouse, which makes him perfect casting for Harvey Weinstein.

I meant is he good on the show or not, but I understand the confusion.

I enjoy him. He has a quirkiness to him that is a little lighter, so it was a nice contrast to Goren's very dark side. He appeared to have the same amount of random knowledge that Goren had, but was not at all a tortured soul. Hope that makes sense It'll be interesting to see how dark they make the new characters, if at all.

If they were going to get him the fuck out of the show, they should have done it when they finally killed Nicole Wallace off. His arc pretty much had played out right then and there.

If I remember correctly the reason why they had a different teams every other week was D'onofrio was having health problems. I know I read something about it at the time, but can't find it now.

Edit to add: On Wikipedia it talks about him collapsing on set and then collapsing again at his home

Hope it's the former. I wasn't crazy about her when she first joined; it seemed we were losing all the best guys, Logan, Cragen, Robinette, and I didn't buy her as a precinct captain. But she slowly grew on me. Will miss her dearly.
They switched to the different teams format because D'Onofrio didn't want to do the heavy lifting every week. Whether that's because he was exhausted or a diva or hated George W. Bush, I don't know. I was happy with that, because I fucking love Mike Logan. I was very disappointed he left before he and Goldblum could share screentime together.

Also, I said this before, I'll say it again: Damien Lewis needs to be Jeff Goldblum's new partner. As Charlie Crews.

(Or as Cameron has suggested, Crews should be the lead in L&O: L.A.)
Let's start the discussions now.

Who should replace Van Buren next season?
I have a hunch that they're going to keep a woman, but make it a white lady, in which case, Alison Janney. Then again, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is the captain on CI and L&O is more "manly" than the lighter CI and the soap opera theatrics of the Rape Show. They could go with someone old and cranky, but I have a gut feeling that they're going to try and keep the cast semi-young. You know who I'd really like to see? Ben Daniels. Or Richard Schiff. Because I just want Richard Schiff back on my TV, and his "rabbi P.I." spin-off from IN PLAIN SIGHT isn't going to happen.
Janney would be interesting, but I see it them casting someone to play a young ambitious hot-shot female.

The switch to Merkerson was based solely on the fact that the show received criticism for being too male.
