The only way the Iraqi Daughter subplot works for me is if she comes back as a sleeper agent for al-Qaeda.

This show is such a slog and yet I keep watching. It's like watching a particularly active ant farm.

But wait for the DVD bonus commentary: "Episode 7, here we basically introduced this FBI agent, gave him some pathos...and we killed in the last few minutes. We are proud of it."

The daughter subplot is pointless since I am not paying attention no matter how rewarding is in the future.

The volunteer girl should spend more time with the artist.

Show how much I fucking pay attention, because I didn't know he had Heather Locklear status.

Oh well.

So the future can be changed. I feel like I should be more impressed, but I'm not. They had an opportunity to make a better impact if something had come from the lesbian being shot last week, but the "almost certainly probably can never get pregnant" storyline is straight out of All My Children circa 1988.

Fiennes has done nothing but disappoint me in FF. He's much better than what we've seen and I'm not sure if he just hasn't gotten a grasp of his character, or is just very conspicuously slumming it on TV til the next movie opportunity comes along.

I'm also disappointed that FF has seemingly already committed to the idea that the future can be changed, and that it took The Famous Jett Jackson's needless death by gravity to do so. Just as they were starting to throw out some interesting meta-physical ideas they just up and say, "Yep, the future isn't predetermined. Watch us kill off this black dude to prove it." And I wanted him to get with the unfailingly hot Alex Kingston too. Once again, sci-fi proves hostile to the brothas.

OK, I'm a little confused -- wasn't Al's flash him sitting with Alex Kingston when the bird hits the window? So what's up with the memory of the phone call about Celia?

After the bird hits, Al gets a call from his lawyer (I think) who tells him that Celia just died. We don't know what Al did, but I feel like it was implied he accidentally shot her.

This is the problem with only showing partially flashes, they can always go back and add on when they've backed themselves into a corner or when they need a bit of manufactured drama.

My problem with the swan dive is the idea that no one anywhere on Earth had ever done something so big in contradiction of their vision before that? It's been like 6 weeks, and they have a website documenting all of this stuff. It strikes me that they don't really put much thought into how people would handle something like this in the real world.

Basic stuff like: Wouldn't people with Flashforwards be more likely to be willing to play russian roulette? Or: Wouldn't Fiennes and Noh have a bit stronger reaction to their friend pulling the trigger than mild annoyance? "Dude, that gun had a bullet in it! You could've died! Remember when we used to play Madden?"

But the biggest problem for me is that I just don't care about any of these characters. Some of the actors are good, but the roles are just incredibly dull. So even if the new showrunner they hired can fix up the plodding plot, I'm not sure anything can be done with these characters. My curious nature and scifi geekdom really make me want to at least see the day of the flashforward, but my instincts of self-preservation are telling me to skip everything until then, as I doubt I'll feel lost.
And since we haven't seen much in the way of recognizable villains, the whole show is being carried by the good guys. And they're boring as crap. They should take a page out of Lost's book and good ahead and introduce their Ben Linus to give Fiennes and co. something to play off of. WTF are they doing with Dom Monaghan right now?!
I thought of Chud and smirked at the scene of Fiennes grimacing and then furiously flossing his teeth in the mirror.
It's the little things that makes this show special.
Looks like they're doing that in the upcoming episode based on the preview. What with Simcoe and the hobbit talking about what they did to cause the flashforwards.
Now I know where I saw her, I couldn't place her for anything, I knew she looked familiar. She was the girl in the Doctor Who story about the Darkness in the Library. Alex Kingston!

Yeah, it seems to me the people who had flash forwards would be the ones running around doing whatever, since they know they last at least the next six months. If my flash showed I was going to be dead by then, I don't think I'd do anything to accelerate the process, especially since no one has conclusively proved the flashes are definitely going to happen.

Yes, they got the other way around. Also I can imagine a lot of business guys will star playing more hardcore in the markets (let's thinks about George Soros ) bringing some instability and changing the future. Basically, if you have Mosaic you can make a lot of money on your own just mining all this data.

Although, if you knew you'd be dead in the next six months, I could see going a little unhinged and living it up.
I imagine there have been different reactions to the flashes. Some will play it safe, some will act out, including self-mutilation. We're just not seeing the ones playing it safe because they're not good tv. But then again neither are the characters we have seen.
io9 mentioned somewhere last week that Goyer said this episode of FlashForward was the best thing he's ever worked on. WTF.

Another episode with five interesting minutes. I don't know why I keep watching. It also drives me nuts how far forward all the agents wear their guns on their belts. Completely ridiculous.
Rice you eat off the floor? What a pretentious hag. Even Chris Comer's laugh sounded as fake as hell at that.
Finally an episode where they move forward and SOMETHING HAPPENS.
We're a 3rd of the way thru the season, it had better.
I'm really too lazy to go back and watch so could someone please let me know what happened at the end of the field trip to Washington D.C. episode and the episode after that please?
Why don't you just read episode recaps somewhere since we're likely all too equally lazy to summarize them for you.
Good advice. I just read up on them at ABC.
Oh, and another thing that's pretty annoying about this episode- why kill off Black FBI Agent to show that the future isn't written when they could have just as easily killed off Lesbian FBI Agent last week and done something useful with the latest episode?
They were only allowed to get rid of one minority, and lesbians tested better.
*golf clap*
Good episode. The plot's getting a little convoluted, but it's getting interesting at least. It's got a bit of a Minority Report theme going.

Can you justify punishing, or even killing someone, if they are a threat to you in the future?
I gave this show a second chance yesterday.

This show sucks. Hard.
I love that they really had a newspaper article saying "The Future Can Change" or whatever. And then the whole point of the episode is, "maybe it's not as easy to change as we thought." 1 step forward, 37 steps back.
Yep. I'm done with this one. I flushed Forward from my DVR.
Are we gonna get a conversation between Benson and Benson every ep where she reassures her husband that she will not cheat on him? He needs to get over that shit, stat. Though him buying her the lingerie that she's wearing in her flash was just mean-spirited by the writers. I loved it. I was let down by the Simon-Lloyd scenes. I thought we'd at least get a little more in terms of how exactly they were involved, but all it ended up being was a giant tease.

Like dontEATnachos said, seemingly backtracking on the inevitablility of the flashes is punk. I figured they blew their wad too early when Al's now meaningless death was apparently confirmation that the future can be changed, but now I guess that's only in the event of extreme stupidity. What happened to the dying birds story thread?
Yeah seriously... they had the whole reveal of the pylons in Somalia, but they didn't send anyone to investigate that shit? Excuse me if they addressed this, I find it very hard to pay full attention to this idiotic show.
I think I'm done. Forget the utter uselessness of the poker subplot, but why on EARTH would Monaghan have made that ridiculous winner takes all bet? Is his character mentally retarded?
This show is pissing me off. Great concept, horrible execution. Just absolutely horrible. And what's up with this magic television technology that allows you to enhance and magnify images off a security camera? I work in video production and I would love to have that technology that creates new pixels out of thin air. So retarded.
Yeah, I'm confused on the Somalia stuff. We have all this evidence there's a connection to the blackout but the FBI can't afford to send one or two agents to check on it. Surely that trip would cost less than a) the Washington trip or b) the lesbian's medical bills or c) replacing the totaled car from the garage shootout, etc. etc. One semi-definite lead but it's "too expensive". Really? Really?

And maybe I'm spoiled, but the conversation during the poker game just reeked of contrived plot points and hidden meanings a la "Lost" but done in a very clumsy, obvious irritating way. I kept thinking, "ooooh, they want me to google that...and that!....and that!...."
The idea they could magnify the image so much so as to see the fucking RING on a guy's finger is so retarded that it defies belief this is a television show with a staff of many people. SOMEBODY ON THAT STAFF, PLEASE, START CALLING SHENANIGANS.

The poker scenes were so horribly forced, faux-cool bullshit. Shame is that I fucking love Monaghan and Davenport, they're great, just given shitty material. And now the show is adding Ricky Jay to the roster of amazing actors given shitty material, to join Peter Coyote.

Jay's delivery of his one crappy line almost made it seem well-written.
Badly written Ricky Jay is still probably better than most, he makes it work. But I just end up pining for some David Mamet dialogue.

I've seen this BS tech so often now that I just roll my eyes and move on. I fear that television writers have seen it so much that they actually believe this is how security video works...can't see enough detail, enhance the image!

I'm really running out of excuses to keep watching this show. I think I'll skip the next ep and see if I miss it at all. I think I know what the answer will be.

Ricky Jay's 42 seconds of screen time was, bar none, the single most interesting and charismatic character work on the show thus far.

You'd think that shit like Super Troopers mocking that particular trope would keep writers from using it in the future, but apparently not. Galaxy Quest mocking the strange machinery with hammers you need to dodge through for no reason didn't dissuade Lucas from using it in Episode 2, either.
Something wrong with this series. The premise is interesting enough. But I can't seem to get involved with any of the characters.

Every week is the same. Fiennes clone confronts wife. Blah. Blah Blah. FBI Team chasing down clues williy nilly. There seems to be little forward motion that I can gut feel here.

There's a a definite lack of focus. What's the Theme? Also since the future has been changed with the Black FBI guys suicide, shouldn't this create a ripple effect that will cause all the Flashforwards to be wrong?
Man, my expectations must have been lowered so far that I thought this entire episode was decent. You could see the reveal at the end coming from about 800 miles away but it was still good. Plus, Ricky Jay!
Unsubscribed to this show on my DVR a few weeks ago. Saw activity in here hoping there'd be news the show was finding its footing. Apparently not. Shame, because the concept is a good one.
Zzzz....

Wait, what happened? Oh, nothing? Okay.

Zzzz....
Shit, Ricky Jay was in this? If he was a main character it would bump it back to DVR-worthy for me.

The dumbest part is that Symcoe shows that he cheated! And he still expects Monohan's character to go along with announcing it ot the world. And Monahan seems to be going along with it!

Fucking Dumb, why do I watch this crap?

I love how ineffective rocket propelled grenades are on this show. You can't kill shit with those things!

Not to mention it was hilarious that they wanted to zoom in on the guy's jewelry to try to identify him, and not, you know, his fucking face.
This show somehow makes the 4400 look halfway decent in comparison.
