G20 Summit - This is America

Military Hijacking what looks like a civilian protesting into an unmarked car and I can't distinguish any markings on their camo's (as in MP, name, rank, nothing).

This is pretty outrageous. I was listening in yesterday live as tear gas was being used on the protestors, you can see in the background the tear gas. From what I understood there was no reason for the tear gas but I haven't dug much into it since listening in. This is messed up shit right here.

Hum ... we sure this is real?

..unless of course they'd ID'd him as a real terrorist. These G20 Summit meetings bring out lots of legitimate protesters but also people prone to violence or worse, inciting violence. These protests are organized via the Web by a small group of people. Would not shock me to learn that various Intelligence agencies are carefully monitoring these people...

Well but if he had been carrying bombs, or a trigger device, doesn't it seem kind of odd they would grab him like that and without drawing guns?

Here is another video, this one has late night protestors with bikes. Watch how the police (or military police?) treat this person. They shove her several times, she gets fed up tosses her bike (I can't tell if it hits the cop) then after they throw her to the ground, watch them kick the shit out of her before arresting her. THEN they go on to push other people with bikes before it cuts out.

This is America.

Okay, she throws her bike AT A COP and they take her down to the ground. I don't see any kicking going on there at all before they arrest her either.

And why are you acting like this is the first time this has ever gone on in this country? Forgotten the G8 in Seattle already?

I think every city should get a shot at hosting this event. Kind of like the Super Bowl or the Final Four.

The KFC Double Down. An unholy monstrosity consisting of two slabs of hormone-laden deep-fried chicken, pasted together with a cheese substitute and some terrible substance named Colonel's Sauce.

This is America.

He pushes her twice in the video, the second time hard enough to HIT another biker with her bike then she gets fed up and tosses her bike at the cop. He uses his nightstick to her throat (or back of her neck, hard to tell) the other guy one arm hand slams her to the ground (almost like a wrestling move) then the cop to her right (at :17) is seen walking to her and you see his leg move in towards her body (presumably, a kick) then they drag her off.. the same cop that was to her right then is shown later on pushing other people on bikes.

It's outrageous. It's morally unjustifiable to defend this type of brutality in any fashion. You talk about G8? This is 2009, almost a decade later and with the rights that have been eroded away over the last 8 years thanks to 9/11 and the overreaction that is called the Patriot Act do you honestly think these people have a chance?

More like forgotten the 2009 RNC Convention in St. Paul already?

Glenn Beck. A pompous, buzz-cut blowhard of a little swine who uses all sorts of inflammatory rhetoric and fearmongering on his laughable excuses for "entertainment shows". Fancies himself as a comedian, turning out record numbers for his live shows in such renowned venues as Bill's Skunk Lodge in Fart Holler, Arkansas and the Elks Club #48 in Utica, NY. Recently wrote a half-assed book taking a cue from Thomas Paine's "Common Sense", but completely fucked it up, making you wonder if the library where he plopped down to read said document was located in Bizarro World. Somehow managed to get a bunch of equally misguided blowhards to converge in DC recently to protest something. Probably applesauce.

This is America.

She had a chance before SHE THREW HER BIKE AT A COP.

There are better ways to express your displeasure with what a cop is doing to you than by lobbing your mode of transportation at them.

You know what would calm everyone there down a bit? A KFC Double Down with extra Colonel sauce.

Yeah, this. The cops are obviously trying to pick a fight. Shoving people, possibly verbal insults. That is nothing new, lots of cops do that, especially in heated situations. She was stupid to take the bait, and got what she asked for.

You wouldn't be able to lift a bike, much less throw one, after eating one of those.

Excessive force by a law enforcement officers is a violation of a person's rights. Excessive force is not subject to a precise definition, but it is generally beyond the force a reasonable and prudent law enforcement officer would use under the circumstances.

Force should be used in only the minimum amount needed to achieve a legitimate purpose. Police brutality is a direct violation of the laws within the police force. The use of excessive force is also a direct violation of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S Constitution regarding cruelty and protection of the laws.

So this type of behavior is condoned then? I never really understood that argument.

You gotta admit that if she threw a bus or some form of dirigible at them it would have been pretty sweet. I dont think her point would have been lost, either.

[sarcasm] B b b b b b but they were protesting our FREEDOM!!! LIBS!

This is different. Barack Obama was born in Kenya and he wants to kill old people.

[/sarcasm]

I almost want to say that I'd be jerking off if they did this stuff to the 9/12 protesters or those dicks who block abortion clinics, but police brutality of ANY stripe is fucked. Sort of the "the enemy of my enemy is not my friend" thing.

HA! That's right. I forgot, I only have a problem with police brutality when liberals are in office. My bad, disregard this everyone... it's Obama's America so it's all good now.

Carry on...
When the cops say move, you move. This happened to a girl here about 2 months ago, who wouldn't move when the police told her so.

With these summits it's quite normal for the police to have a zero tolerance policy.
I mean, yeah, maybe they didn't need to shove her in the back the second time. But if I'm a cop and someone picks up their bike and throws it at me, how do I know they're not going to pull a knife from their belt next? Or go for my gun?

And I watched that video again and at no point is she kicked.

I see the Left Wing Wackos were tired of the Tea Baggers getting all the press, and decided to do some dumb shit of their own.
I really get tired of those who think the kind of rioting going on in Pittsburg is somehow "justified" because it's against THE MAN.

Confirmed to be real.

one of the comments said to google and this was the picture that pulled up.

It's the same guys that were in that video. They still don't have any identifying insignias but they appear to have something clipped on to their arm...

I was watching CNN this afternoon before I had to go to work, and managed to catch a few minutes of an interview with the mayor of Pittsburgh. He claimed that the leaders of the twenty most wealthy nations on earth were "blown away" and "in love" with Pittsburgh.

No offense to Pittsburgh (Honestly), as there are many rust belt towns and cities in my area, but I seriously doubt Sarkozy and the rest were that impressed. I feel almost a little embarrassed to have everyone come to America to see a rusted out ruin of a city. Yes, I know they have new industry, but all the rust belt places, even those that have found new purposes for existing, have a sad atmosphere about them. A feeling of glory days gone that will never return. (or at least they won't return till we start building things, ALOT OF THINGS, in this country again)

I just heard they were actually college students and not part of the protests. The actual location was on the edge of the campus. That just makes it even more fucked up.

Well geez Kate, I guess it was just too much to fit all 20 people into Massachusetts..

I mean really, check out that hell hole they call Pittsburgh!

That makes sense, I was wondering why the hell there were so many people with bikes around the protest area.

I did say, if you'll notice, that there is plenty of rust belt stuff around me here. There is the city of Pittsfield Massachusetts, once known as the "Gem City of the Gilded Age" that is now full of very impressive buildings, monuments to a time of great wealth. Oh, and it's also full of crack dealers and poverty. There has been some revitalization, but there is a sad feeling to the place. Closed store fronts etc.

I really was not slamming Pittsburg, just commenting on the whole Rust Belt thing, and the face of America that we're presenting to the world at this G 20 shindig.
I know what you said, I was just making fun of the size of your state :-) it was a joke.. ha ha :-) And I really do find Massachusetts to be a really beautiful state.. Just can't really stand the people
post #40 of 100
I don't think anybody is condoning this. They're just saying that this type of thing has been going on for quite some time and to be outraged by it at this juncture either means that people are either so clueless as to just be noticing it now or are utterly disingenuous in their anger.

You know what? I never thought I'd say this, but I'm with Snaieke on this one, so much so I'm wondering if his account got hacked. Fuck anyone that supports this police state bullshit, double fuck city governments that refuse to give out protest permits the moment they hear words like "fair trade," and quadruple fuck people who bemoan the Orwellian excesses of the Bush years and then chuckle and shrug when this happens now. You're like New Dealers that by the time Lyndon Johnson rolls around are cheering on Chicago cops beating war protesters into the street.

No one's shrugging this off, it's just that Snaieke isn't the most unbiased source around here and tends to have a huge grain of salt hovering just beyond anything he says. For this instance of something that has gone on as recently as last year to be what suddenly makes him realize that it's going on seems a little suspect.

I know what you were talking about. What you did whether you know it or not is equate your rusted hulk full of crack dens with Pittsburgh. I am sure Pittsburgh has it problems but that picture looks far less like the hell-hole you assume it is.

As for them employing less that a steel mill, prove it.

Pittsfield is not a "rusted hulk full of crack dens". It's far from that. It's just not the city it was. I am a little confused here. I am going out of my way to make clear I am not insulting Pittsburgh, and you seem to be going out of your way to insult Pittsfield.

Hm.

Also, that picture you're so enamored with shows brightly lit high rises where white collar workers make their living. Show me some pictures of Pittsburgh inner city neighbor hoods or suburbs, and you'll see my point. Not just the gilded surface.

I miss the good 'ol days when cops just beat the shit out of drugged out, peace loving hippies.
You gringos would have a fit with the cops vs protestors clashes we get here in South America, specially in Chile during this very same month; they sometimes end up as pretty much warzones.
