Bored and at work...

Thread Starter
Wherein we regale each other with our methods for passing the time when the clock just won't move.

Let me start. I'm so bored right now, that I've laid bubble wrap on the floor of my office and I'm dancing what I can only describe as a very understated jig on it, even as I type this. I'm trying to see if I can pop every bubble by the time I have to leave.

Your turn.

I'm masturbating to this thread.

This thread is sort of like parading in front of legless people dancing a jig.

I had a 10-minute discussion about bacon a little while ago.
I just had bacon. Suck on that pork pipe, vegetarians.
OK, you were masturbating earlier...and now you've just had bacon?

In what WAY did you have the bacon?
I just played a Foosball match against my bosses. We won.

I just did a photoshop of a squirrel hanging from a skyscraper like spiderman.

Which may be the most perfect matching of post and avatar all week. Month, maybe.

I just deleted 37 e-mails regarding my UK Internet Lottery winnings, potential Nigerian money transfers, free World Cup tickets, and billions in inheritances from benevolent strangers, all from the last 3 hours. Our spam filters suck pork pipes.

I'll also mention that I'm currently enjoying a small glass of Macallan 12. Yes...we get to lightly imbibe on Fridays as long as we don't get too out of hand.

I story boarded a fight scene with every single zombie President while on the phone with several dozen people.

And they said I'd never get paid for doodling...

We just played the rematch, they won.

We'll play the decisive match in an hour.

Is your job on the line if you win?
Nope, but it would be unheard of. The bosses are kings of the Foosball table at work. They are the best players by far. Their ego will certainly take a hit. Which ain't bad.

I just helped run a fire drill.

Fact: no matter who you are or what you're like, you always turn into Dwight Schrute when helping to run a fire drill. It's impossible to avoid.

I have one of these next week, and unfortunately I'm the designated fire warden for the entire suite. So I get to basically babysit 15-20 people who are at least 10 years older than me by telling them that they can't take food or drinks with them, get off the phone, it's probably better to take off your high heels to go down the stairwell, no, take your high heels with you and don't leave them on the landing for people to trip on, no, dude, you can't bring your breakfast burrito I already told you twice, fine, you can pay the fucking $2500 fine, why do you not have a flashlight, I wish you were really on fire, etc.

iPhone scrabble, Facebook, chud, reading various scripts for plays, reading Sandman, memorizing lines for a play that opens in a month. I work in the video rental industry. I have plenty of time for all that and more.

The Web Development firm I interned at did this. It pretty much spoiled me for the rest of my working life. Then again, the last two jobs I've been at have allowed light drinking on occasion.

And the small independent paper I worked at before this job... well, the bossman made the mistake of going out of town one week. We had Margarita Day... Import Beer Day... Whiskey Day, etc. It got WAY out of hand. Production took a massive nose-dive that week.

I've won 61% of my freecell matches. I swear this thing fucks you sometimes.

Between hanging out on this board and checking my blackberry to see if anyone cares, my co-worker and I had a conversation about farting vs. not farting in front of our significant others.

Unfortunately for me, work has been very busy today. Normally, I really look forward to work because I get to Chud (I maintain it can be used as a verb) all day. Today, I am finding myself without the free time to post as much as I'd like to

On an average day I usually have plenty of time to post, and it's a great way to pass the time. I used to read Digg all day, but now that I'm a Chewer, I cannot imagine a better way to pass the time.

Well, I'm not necessarily for it, per se. But her claim is that in 13 years of marriage, she's never farted in front of her husband, which, frankly, I'm calling bullshit on. As for me and my boyfriend - I mean, I'm not proud of it, but in a little over a year together, I've let a couple rip in front of him. And they were his fault anyway, because both times he was trying to tickle me, and he made me laugh so hard that they cut out while I was trying to roll away from him across the bed.

Lisa must be a hoot (toot? Poot!) at comedy clubs, let me tell ya. I wonder if they're loud? And stinky? Shoot, they probably smell like flowers...

Boredom kicked in around 2 PM - I had three hours to kill before I left, and working on compiling price quotes that weren't needed for a week wasn't too appealing. So, on went some Cheap Trick, and I surfed the web for a bit (CHUD's been blocked by my server at work lately, otherwise I'd be checkin' the boards or the chatroom).

ETA: Jake - dude, have some fun with the fire drill! When the alarms go off, run like a motherfucker into those offices and scream "Sweet mother of GOD!!! We gotta get the HELL out of here NOW!!!!! RUN!!!! RUN!!!!!!" Hell, grab a few of 'em by the shoulders and scream in their faces "Don't you understand?! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE unless you HAUL ASS OUTTA HERE!!! NOW!!!!" Then run around with the fire extinguisher, blast off a few shots, and yell, "SAVE YOURSELVES!!! I think I can save Human Resources, but if I can't, TELL STELLA I ALWAYS LOVED HER!!"

You're gonna do a fire drill, make it one to remember. Give 'em something to talk about when they hit the parking lot. It'll make your Employee review much more interesting.

I like to specifically target newbies and wage a calculated bullying campaign to drive them to depression and eventually to leaving the job.

I work on my Novel, hell it even looks like i'm working that way.

Before our ice machine went on the fritz, I used to make iced tea--you take a tea bag, add hot water from the coffee maker, brew it for a few minutes, then add sweetener to it; take another bigger cup, fill it with ice, then pour the hot tea into that cup, and if needed, fill the rest of it up with cold water. That takes up a good 10 minutes or so. Plus, there's usually someone that comes through the break room that you can engage in mindless conversation.

I mostly just surf the web, but I think maybe I should start bringing a small sketchbook and an art pen in with me for my down time.
I read CHUD, read the boards, sketch, work on projects, chat with friends, listen to audiobooks, organize files on my hard drive, stretch, rotate my joints, do squats, listen to DVD commentary...

Anything so that I don't feel bored for a stretch of time. To make sure the time flies as much as it can.

I'm unemployed. Not getting many interviews. So I tend to hit CHUD and organise my hard drive. What a crazy guy!

Good luck on landing a job, BlueLou.

Bizarrely enough, we don't get internet access at my job, but we do get to read books.
That pretty much solves things for me.

I'm curious - don't any of you work at work? Usually I don't have time to be bored.

Right here. Oh, I used to be able to surf the web with impunity when things got slow, but with the projects I've got cooking, not to mention the scads of new projects I've had since the year got started, CHUD winds up waiting 'til I get home. Sucks, usually, as by the time a new article goes up, most of the poignant and informed insights have already been made on the boards, and I'm left with nothing to contribute but a fart joke or two.

Fucking job responsibility...
Pretty much it's either catch up with some reading or watch a movie or two.

My job is one extreme or the other. My current project is a joke, and of the 50 hours a week budgeted to me I have to use maybe 10 a week to get all my work complete. The project just isn't that complex, and I'm good at what I do, so it doesn't take much. My last project was much bigger, and much more complex and I could have worked 80 hours a week and still have tons to do everyday.

Thanks. I was working for a financial publisher so it wasn't too suprising. In fact they were asking people to take unpaid leave just before they gave me the boot!!

AVclub and EW lists on pop culture. I'm really bored right now. Can't play online games since there's people entering the box all the time.
I downloaded Kindle for the PC. Great way to pass time at work.
Work got a whole lot more boring for me. They've been cracking down on website surf-age lately, so I've been playing it safe and avoiding CHUD like the plague during work hours (which is why I haven't been around till evenings in the past week or so). So when my work is all finished up, and I need some work-friendly surf time, I'm fairly limited.
Work for me is pretty silly; as someone else said, out of my scheduled 43 hours a week it usually takes me alot less time to get my stuff done. They try to crack down on internet usage with all sorts of silly mind-games, but it never really works. And since they lied to me about raises and any pay for filming, I don't really feel that bad for getting paid to surf/listen to movie commentaries.
This is the time of the year when boredom kicks in. Being in Support, most firms have locked their environments down so there are very few calls. Surf, surf, and more surf.
