Because they do it regulary it they have to register as child minders, even though they are both police officers, and friends, they are breaking the law.

This has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

This is Monty Python levels of stupid.

Exactly,

I love how, even in the face of public condemnation Ofsted still try and defend themselves.

Also I'm pretty sure this means my wife can technically no longer babysit our nephew every wednesday while his mother goes to the gym.

Well, family members are exempt from these rules, so I think your situation is okay Ken.

But yeah, this is stupid as. Forget Orwell and 1984, the real prophet of Britain's future is Terry Gilliam with Brazil. This is just another example of mountains of rules and red tape and tens of thousands of petty beauracrats enforcing them.

I was amused that someone 'informed' on them to Ofsted. I wonder what their thought process was when they did that?

What a bizarre story, do Ofsted not realise this has been going on for decades in just about every family in the UK? My mum and her friends should be in jail, ha!

Ofsted sounds like a Danish Bond villain. And acts like one.

It raises all sort of dumb questions.

For example - if your kids go to their friends house after school more than once a week does the friends mother need to be vetted?

And its pretty much common practice for mothers to share the load in terms of babysitting, why on earth are ofsted sticking their noses in here?

If you and your friend build each other a house and charge one another a million dollars, you've added two million dollars to the Gross Domestic Product. If you build each others' houses for free, you two shiftless deadbeats don't contribute a thing (on paper.)

Could that be the principle involved here? The government wants its cut of what it thinks should be a taxable business transaction?

Why stop there then? Make children's allowance tax deductible as charity.

But thats really dumb.

The goverment wants more people in work and not claming benifits. These two mothers have gone back to work (as policewomen no less) and are using the cheapest and argubly saftest means possible to look after their children while they are in work.

After all who would you rather leave your child with, someone you know and trust or someone who the government has "vetted" to look after them.

It's insainity at the highest level.

This is kind of taking the term "Nanny State" to a ridiculous level.
