Animation Domination on FOX

Figured there'd be more discussion if we took the whole evening into account than breaking out into individual threads for each show -- especially considering I don't think The Cleveland Show is going to be around all that long if last night was any indication.

How many times is The Simpsons going to go to the "Gee, Hollywood is kinda screwy!" well? Sure, in twenty years you're going to repeat ideas, but it feels like we've seen this one a dozen times at least. I guess you can give them a pass since it was written by outside writers, but still, this is ground well-trodden, and it wasn't funny enough to make up for the repetition.

I liked the theme song for The Cleveland Show and that's about it. It's pretty much Black Family Guy with some slight tweaks, and they don't really any effort to hide the fact. It's telling that I'd much rather watch 30 minutes of the bear family than of the main character. This is only going to get watched because people will be too lazy to switch between Simpsons and Family Guy.

The Stewie/Brian "Road to..." episodes have always been my favorite Family Guy episodes, and this one was fairly entertaining. They did some dynamite Disney-esque animation when they went to the Disney universe, and even the song was suitably Ashman/Menken enough. A little disappointed by the abrupt ending though, but that's become sort of par for the course with this show.

I wish American Dad had set the entire episode around the Vietnam reenactment. That was some funny stuff, so much so that the episode peaked too soon and everything that came after just felt anticlimactic.

So no, outside of Family Guy and half of American Dad, not a lot of domination going on last night.

An hour and a half of Seth McFarlane humor? Jesus Christ!
"The Simpsons" was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldsmith?!?
Not sure I enjoyed The Cleveland Show. I guess after Family Guy and American Dad I'm tired of the McFarlane'd formula.

I wish he would be more like Mike Judge and do something different.
Even so? Another they hire one of the Simpsons to be in a movie. And its a superhero movie no less.

Talk about beating a dead horse.

And I've never found American Dad to be funny.

Missed the whole block last night (Fantasy Hockey Draft) but caught the Simpsons this morning. It was ok. But would have been better if it was a CBG episode insted of dragging Homer into it.

Probably watch Cleveland Show, and FG during Leno tonight. I'll catch American Dad on Adult Swim Re-runs.

I'll give American Dad credit for being the most story-driven of the McFarlane toons.
Only watched FG, but it made me laugh. It's a guilty pleasure show of mine, I know most people on the boards hate the show for being low common denominator humor, but I still laugh my ass off at enough parts to keep watching.
If Roman Polanski raped a thousand little girls, it would not be as bad as this.
The Disney segment was the best segment FG has run in years. Fantastic.
Cleveland Show sucked. Actually a lot worse than I thought it'd be. The Family Guy premiere was surprisingly solid (MacFarlane's usual "I have to stop the show to shove my politics down your Goddamn throat!" bullshit aside). Simpsons premiere was "Meh" at best.
The Family Guy ep worked because the multiverse jumping plot fit in perfectly with its cut-and-paste humor style.

I think last nights Cleveland Show was much, much better than the opener. Loved the Cobain/Love thing. Family Guy was a spit-your-soda laugh riot. Fuck they get away with murder on that show. Didn't bother with American Dad (Bored to Death is on at the same time) but I give the Cleveland/FG duo an 8 on 10!
Meh on the Simpsons (although I liked them adding Sherri Bobbins to the opening credits)

Cleveland Show was garbage

Have yet to watch FG...maybe tonight after House.

I love the theme song for The Cleveland Show. That's about it.
I watched this episode of The Cleveland Show to see if I was missing anything. The Courtney Love joke made me laugh, that was pretty much it.
There is Quagmire.

There is Joe.

For fuck's sake, there is even Herbert!!!

Why make a show about Cleveland?
Give Herbert a show? Who would watch that for 22 minutes?

Besides, they already gave the crazy old man from The Simpsons a show.

"Old Gray mare she ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be...."
1. 'Don't mouth off to me, or I'm gonna slap you right in your penis.'
2. 'Whoever can swallow the most Tylenol PM wins!'
3. 'You don't wanna hurt yourself dancing; make sure you stretch out those creamy hamstrings!'
4. 'Hello there, Kyle. You look nice today. I see you're wearing your big shorts with the baggy leg holes that flutter so carelessly in the breeze. Would you like to come in for a glass of wine and a cupcake?'
5. 'Did he say strap in or strap on?'

Fucking Gold!

No King of the Hill, no "Animation Domination."

Now I can just give my undivided attention to Sunday Night Football.

"Old Jewish Man" I believe his name is.
Quagmires internet-porn discovery could have been an entire 22 minutes and I'd have loved the whole thing.
The Seth McFarlane show is a better hour and a 1/2 of TV than SNL has been in awhile.

That's not saying much.
The Simpsons said everything they have to say a few years back.

The Cleveland Show was god-awful. This crap gets on the air, but The Boondocks gets canceled.

Family Guy had some hilarious bits. The Kathy Ireland cut-out getting slammed up against the shower door, with Peter's hands on either side, had me laughing for a while. Ditto Quagmire's internet porn Popeye arm.
The Kathy Ireland cutout bit was good. So was Quagmire not knowing about internet porn. The rest was the usual crap.
That was probably the worst "Treehouse of Horror" ever.

How the mighty hath fallen. Yeah, that was insanely unfunny.

oh hell, that's been my feeling on the Simpsons for the past 10 years.
Whoa whoa whoa, they actually released a Treehouse of Horror BEFORE Halloween? Holy shit, that hasn't happened in years.

God help me, the clones are cracking me up and I have no idea why.

I'm sure this has been seen and posted about elsewhere around here. But it's relevant to this thread.

Last couple of Family Guys have been surprisingly solid.

Quagmire's rant at Brian felt a little meta -- "See, I realize Brian has become my mouth-piece character, so I'm making fun of myself!" -- but I'd watch a Black Jesus spinoff all day long.
That Black Jesus bit had me laughing for a good five minutes. The Cleveland Show was great as well, especially at the end when Cleveland was explaining to his Dad that he slept with a tranny.
MacFarlane's had this bad tendency to ware out jokes, characters, etc. Eventually he'll acknowledge it and move on to something else to drag out. The Vaudeville Guys, Herbert, stopping an episode cold just to let us know his politics, etc.
The PETA/Peter joke illustrates why this show for the most part blows. Although I did laugh at the Light Up Yo-Yo exchange.
I enjoyed they at least acknowledged the PETA joke stupidity by Stewie saying "are we really doing this?"

I'm no longer at a point to even care if the show is good, but sadly, I cracked up at the animal slayings.

Last night's American Dad was kind of insanely brilliant.
Yeah, I caught the last 2/3rds of that, and I wonder why every show isn't that over the top.
I think the TV Club review of American Dad put it best when they referred to the show as "a watered-down version of Adult Swim for the masses." It's definitely the best show of the bunch (and man, if you had told me I'd be saying that when it premiered...).

Really great ep. I was wondering if they were gonna go with that ending. Didn't disappoint. Highlight was definitely the Antichrist, though.

The Rapture cartoon for kids was just spot on. Happy characters describing the hell on Earth that awaits you!
Didn't catch American Dad, but I did see The Simpsons and Family Guy.

As simple and easy as it was Homer Smoking the pipe around the Fireworks and the payoff with the explosion in the background was all sorts of great. Same with Nelson taking Marge's birth control pills.

And the African American heart monitor on FG was pretty good too.
American Dad was incredible last night. It's always nice to see a show do something like that every once in a while.

Thought it was kind of funny that Lois' dad made a Billy Joel reference when he was having a heart attack.
Every Christmas episode of a TV show should have Mad Max background in-jokes and faux John Carpenter soundtracks.
Family Guy is shit. But the past 3 weeks have been far worse than usual. I mean REALLY, REALLY Bad. And I don't quite get the obsession with having James Woods a guest star like every season.
So the 150th ep of Family Guy was essentially a dramatic episode. John Hughesian, even. I thought it worked surprisingly well.

I thought it was pretty self-indulgent and kind of pointless, because you know the next episode is going to see Brian and Stewie right back where they were.

Pretty much exactly what happened. And both episodes were pretty bad.
