Deleted Scenes Thread

What are your favorite deleted scenes or stuff that's long been lost that you'd kill to see one day?

For me, it boils downs to five simple words: Eric Stolz as Marty McFly.

Agreed on the Eric Stoltz footage. There are plenty of pictures out there to be had, though.

I'd also love to see the footage of Harvey Keitel from 'Apocalypse Now.'

THIS! Ever since I saw Hearts of Darkness, I've been dying to know what was so "meh," or even bad, that it made Coppola recast. Then again, that whole shoot was one long nutty decision process, so maybe it'd actually not be too interesting.

I'd still love to see it though.

I'd also like to see The Joker and co. leaving the party. Ha. I'm sure that's just earth-shattering.

It's never been discussed, especially since Hill got carte blanch after The Warriors, but I can't help but wonder if there's a longer version of Streets of Fire out there.

The spider pit scene from King Kong, although I imagine that, after decades of build-up, it might be a little disappointing.

I'd also add the original suicide ending of Dawn of the Dead to my list along with the Stolz footage. But there's been conflicting information as to whether or not it was filmed. Romero claims it wasn't, but Roy Frumkes said he actually saw a cut of the film with that ending in tact.

I'd also like to see some of the James Remar footage from 'Aliens'. He filmed a couple of scenes before being replaced by Michael Biehn, and I'd be interested to see just what his take on the Hicks character would have been.

Doesn't this thread begin and end with the Welles' cut of The Magnificent Ambersons?

That, Stolz as Marty McFly....and the "pie-fight" from Dr. Strangelove.

What about the long since destroyed footage Kubrick shot of Joker going insane at the end of Full Metal Jacket?

Also, the pie fight from Dr. Strangelove and the concluding hospital scene from The Shining.

Edit: Whoops! since the pie fight's been mentioned, how about that opening segment from Superman Returns where it shows Superman going to the remains of Krypton before returning? Weren't they saving that for some foolish idea of re-releasing the film down the line? How about the bits where Lex Luthor fabricated the hope of Krypton sustaining life to trick Superman into traveling there in the first place?

i don't know if they did any of the animation for it, but Chris Farley's recordings for Shrek. They touch on it a little in The Chris Farley Show, and it sounds like it might be amazing.

Have you seen the recreated footage that Peter Jackson had done for the 2005 DVD? It's actually still delightfully horrifying.
In a flip of the thread prompt:

There's a single shot VanSant deleted from the end of MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO which ruins the ending. It's a DVD extra and it was a while before I could completely divorce it from the real movie.

Although I'm glad the scenes were cut from the film, I would love to see the Skull Cowboy footage from The Crow.

Paul Reiser's original cocoon death in Aliens.

Speaking of the Alien franchise, AvP: Requiem is improved greatly by the scenes reinserted for the directors cut. Still not a good movie, but...

That Skull Cowboy footage is out there, Bartleby. Hell, I'm pretty sure that it's on youtube (which is blocked here at work). The footage of Funboy attacking Eric with a razor is out there too.

One of the worst deleted scenes imo would be the original "...And they all lived happily ever after" ending for Terminator 2.
A quick check on youtube does, indeed, confirm the existence of the Skull Cowboy footage. As I suspected it's horribly cheesy, and I'm grateful it was cut from the movie. Who thought the logistics of being brought back to life by a crow for vengeance needed to be spelled out to the audience? Was the SC supposed to be a former crow?

TC: City of Angels, oddly enough, handled the whole scenario better with the crows flying around the building at the end.

How about the Jean Claude Van Damme as Predator footage?

There's the deleted ending to Clerks where Dante gets killed by a robber. Rightly cut, since it's completely out of whack with everything that came before it.
William Peter Blatty's original ending to Exorcist III

Also, Ridley Scott's rumored director's cut of 1492
post #21 of 35
The longer 3 hour cut of "Gangs of New York". Apparently it was much much better than what came out in theaters.

I stand corrected. That is worse than the T2 alternate ending.

All the scenes cut from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

This.

I'd also love to see Anhedonia, the original version of Annie Hall.

It's a holdover from the graphic novel, where Death takes the form of a cowboy and a dancer to keep Eric on track when he gets too wrapped up in own sorrow. Works there, where the cowboy's appearance is only three or four panels in the whole book. Not in the movie.

Anyway....for me, this thread begins and ends with the original German premiere cut of Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

The Monkeycat scene from The Fly is a fascinating oddity.

Somewhere out there is footage of Stuart Townsend as Aragorn.

I cant remember what I've read Kubrick filmed, but destroyed from 2001 but such is my love of that film, it could be 10 minutes of Dave Bowman taking a piss in zero gravity and I'd be enthralled.
The Gary Oldman storyline as well as any of the footage that didn't make the final cut of The Thin Red Line. If I recall correctly Oldman was a sniper who got left behind while hiding and ended up going a little crazy by himself in enemy territory. Not that that film needs to be any longer, but it's still Oldman.

I've never heard about this. Is there a kind soul out there who would be gracious enough to enlighten me?
It's not a big one like some listed but I'd like to see the original ending to Double Indemnity. C'mon, there are photos of it, why not just release the whole thing?
I read in Horrorhound that they shot some alternate endings to "The Blair Witch Project" that were discarded. Color me curious.

It ends years earlier than that, with Eric von Stroheim's original cut of Greed.

Meanwhile, I await proper restorations of the Everybody Dies version of Little Shop of Horrors and the Biggs scene from Star Wars.

At least Fritz Lang's Metropolis will soon be seen in something approaching its original form, for the first time in 70 years. Goddamn miracle, that.

I always liked the scene in T2 where they activate his learning chip and Sarah Conner tries to Kill the Terminator while its shut down.

It's not in the origianal version of the film but it definalty should have been.

And Arwen at Helm's Deep. And Aragorn fighting Sauron before the Black Gate.

Do you think they should've kept this scene in?

The alternate ending for "I Am Legend" should have been the theatrical ending. It literally gives the movie half a star on its own.

Yes. The scene had Michael Jai White sporting an Aussie accent. What's not to like about that?
