This thread title has been spelled correctly for posterity.

Trailer, news tidbit
As soon as they got to the roof I figured someone was going over.
More than any other game of this current console generation, this is the one I've been waiting for since it was first announced. Every time there's a little bit of news saying it's still being worked on is good news to me.

Same here. Team Bondi is apparently still hiring for this as of late August.
I'm not seeing anything to be excited about yet, but it's Rockstar so it's always nice to know they're busy on something.
I'd already started a thread on this game. But thats ok, I'm so excited for it that I do not mind two identical threads
post #7 of 456
Since this video is a cutscene, I'm still curious about the gameplay.
James Ellroy is one of my favorite authors, and the idea of an entire game set in his unique vision of LA is enough to get me very excited.

Hopefully the game will be every bit as hateful and racist as his books!

We had a vote and decided to use this one.

So this is another Rockstar PS3 exclusive? How comes that wasn't being promoted more when they had that secret agent exclusive being touted?
When was this announced as being PS3 exclusive? I was under the impression it was cross platform.

Doesn't matter much to me, as I'm planning on buying a PS3 in the near future, I just don't remember hearing that.

I haven't heard anything about this being a PS3 exclusive. I think people are confusing it with Agent.
Yeah, I think so too. This one just kind of got forgotten about after such a long silence and then resurfaced.
He's right. It was announced originally as a PS3 exclusive, and I'm pretty sure it still is.. At least that's the word from RockStar. It's rumored that it'll be cross platform. My guess is timed exclusive for Sony.

from IGN:

This game was originally announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and still is considered most likely to be a game only released on PS3. However, plans have changed since the game first entered production and the producers have taken the official platform notifications off its public releases. It is unlikely that this game will be released for Xbox 360 (the company at one time posted hirings for PS3 and Xbox 360 staffers but has since only requested development staff experienced with PS3), but please check back for official info.

Team Bondi's site says "Next Generation Consoles."

Since the 360 has been out for four years, when they say "Next Generation Consoles" do they mean the current generation, or are they talking about machines not yet released?
Sony pulled out funding for this years ago so I'd always assumed it would go multiplatform. Especially since it's generally considered so much easier to go from PS3 to 360.

Until about a week ago this was a PS3 exclusive, seems it's become multiformat now.

It's having the same recorded development trouble that Red Dead Redemption had (not that that is indicative of the overall quality of the game) and it definitely sounds intriguing.

There are no concrete details as of yet, but I've heard (from a fairly decent source) that it's essentially an open world detective game, using a Mass Effect style conversation wheel and covering a game world roughly the size of Liberty City. I know there's some interesting tech behind the game, like the fact they're shooting the actors face on to record EVERY detail of their feature. It's similar to what BioWare did for the Interview segments of each characters trailer for Mass Effect 2, but used in game.

I'm hoping this turns out great, because frankly it looks stunning.
It's a smart move to go multiplatform with this. Perhaps not for Sony, but definitely for Rockstar who seem to be in a bit of a financial hole of pain.

If Agent turns out to be anything worthwhile i'd expect the same.

Noire's always been a curiosity, but it's just yet another "sandbox title" from the guys who just make sandbox titles. It's difficult to get excited from little more than teasers. Especially since the only thing Rockstar have made that I enjoyed in the past few years was on the DS.
So of the TWO games that Rockstar have released since, oh, 2007. You've liked 1.

Round of applause for the man.

I love that CHUD is the one place on earth where Grand Theft Auto 4 was a piece of shit.

You've got to be pretty retarded to think Rockstar have only made 2 games in the past 2 years.

Or think that I said the past 2 years.

Or just be retarded. I think we've gotten to the bottom of that mystery GUYZ

In fairness you're not alone in your love for GTA4 Spike.

Your mum also liked it.

You said few years, few usually equals two or so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockstar_Games#Games

Oh shit, I forgot about Midnight club.

That makes 3 games in total they've released in the last two years. Unless we're counting Liberty City Stories.

I'm confused, Spike. Is it considered a piece of shit on CHUD or are people indifferent to it?
I have deemed few to equal 10.

What does that do to your logic, spaceman?
Man, I love GTA4, but Spike's weird hissies over people not liking it are just THE BEST

Couple means two. Few means more than two less than eight million.

This is going to turn into a massive semantic arguement where I start citing office procedures and that time I was in a restaurant two years ago and got like 17 drinks in one order. So yeah I'm going to concede the point on that.

If you can find me one instance in the history of literature or dictionaries where few equals two I will say you have a right to get bitchy about semantics.
Also this exercise has made me really want to try BEATERATOR.
Great thing about this being set in ye olden days is that instead of cries that Liberty City is too grey and brown, they can simply blame the SEPIA FILTER FX

I've listened to 1UP podcasts and such where they cite repetitive missions, the aiming system and the attempts to make the game realistic at the cost of gameplay (flying through windshields). This of course should factor into your opinion and will by all means inhibit your enjoyment of the game.
Oh and I'd give a few of my testicles to play L.A. Noire sometime this year.

The only thing I can clearly remember about GTAIV is the bank heist mission. Seriously, I know there were some shootout missions, and I had to go out on a bowling date, but it all really blurs together. I can access dialogue fragments: "We are Jauntlemahns ... shall we go to, how do you say, Jauntlemahns cloob?" I remember it being pretty good.

Oh, and I remember reading Spike brag about dressing up like Brucie and prancing around town.
Dressing up FOR Brucie. A man has to rock some suits when he's on a high class man-date. But it wouldn't be appropriate to rock some of the higher end suits when you're doing mission. Yes I am THAT Autistic.
Some details. Up until now I've always assumed this game would cast you as a private investigator, which would have been a lot more interesting. An open-world point and click adventure game in which you're left to rely on your own intuition to solve cases rather than being shoehorned into various crime scene investigations would truly be something, but I guess it's not feasible in a product of this scale.
So whats the final word? When is this coming out? Wikipedia says the March issue of Game Informer will be stating it's being released for 360 and PS3 this September but Team Bondi are saying the next generation of consoles???

...and what the fuck is going on over at Rockstar?!?!? For a company thats made some of the most iconic and popular games of the last decade they really sound like they have epic issues getting their shit together.

It's really irritating cause this game and the premise behind it sounds utterly fantastic. Like 'Ellroy-does-GTA'.

Next console generation? That's absurd. Are you sure you weren't reading a quote from 2004? The few pieces of news that have slipped in the past few days indicate that they're aiming to release it late this year. And if it slips, well, we'll be looking at a 2011 release.

Maybe they're referring to actual next generation consoles. Like, literally, the touchscreen consoles on the Enterprise D. How cool would that be?

...and on my query about Rockstar, does anyone know if there's any kind of writeup on the web about the problems they've been obviously having and the lowdown on why they seem to be lost to politics, infighting and bullshit?
