L.A. Noire - Page 2

Yeah, I really wouldn't be surprised if that site hadn't been touched in years. Everything about it screams 'quick Wordpress template toss-off'.

I can't pretend to know any specifics about any troubles Rockstar might be having, but their entire structure seems like a mess. Having nine development studios set up all over the globe might be feasible for a publisher like EA or Activision, but Rockstar has the added mess of having to answer to Take-Two Interactive's shareholders, yeah? I can't imagine that the constant delays of their games are entirely their fault; they can't be the ones solely deciding when these games are meant to be released.

And of course, there are always things like this popping up...

They seem to have all but disappeared from the internet now, but did anyone catch those five or six 'leaked images' which showed off the main character? He looks exactly like Ken Cosgrove, to like a bizarre uncanny valley level.

Which would make sense seen as Aaron Stanton was the mo-cap model and voice artist for the game, it just looks odd. I had the same thing with Miranda in Mass Effect 2, where because I knew what the actual actress looked like and because they recreated her almost perfectly that she looked kind of 'odd' at times despite being the best designed and most human looking character in the game.

ETA:

Found one of them, but it's obscured. There's definitely a full faced one where you get a proper look at him

New trailer is here! It's all in-game foottage too!

So I basically get to play L.A. CONFIDENTIAL?!

Sold!
The premise for LA Noire sounds great, and that trailer definitely grabbed my interest. Hopefully it will end up being at least half as awesome as the game I see in my head.
YESSSSSSS! Hype +1.

If it is anything even remotely like the POlice Quest games of old... I'm gonna be over the moon.
The voice over at the beginning reminded me of "The Naked City" and "Blast of Silence."
The trailer is cool, but the really interesting thing about it will be the gameplay. They have suggested it will be something pretty different from the Rockstar sand-box formula, but I really have no idea what that will entail.
I really can't think of how "detective work" can be portrayed in a video game like this. It'd be pretty impressive if they pulled it off, though.
Seriously, even if this is only going to be GTA:The LA Confidential Years, that'll still get me insanely jazzed.
Two things:

1) Am I reading too much into the line about "I expect you to draw your own conlusions"? Will there be a little bit less linearity in the plot than your standard Rockstar open ended game?

2) That's Cosgrove from Mad Men as the lead. Kinda neat.
Looks amazing. Color me there.

Crap! I forgot to walk around my car before leaving the yard and now I have a flat tire.
Late to this party, but, yeah, Rain Dog's dead on with this. It'll be great if they pull off GTA 1955. It'll be revelatory if they pull off L.A. Confidential The Video Game.

Either way, WANT.
Well, that looks neat, although as always with Rockstar some of the textures just look odd and last-gen. Still, I love that they've been branching out brand-wise with this and Red Dead Redemption (which is great, though I kind of suck at it).
Fuck yes. If there are some adventure game elements to back up the detective work I'm pretty sure that this is the game I've always wanted.
Some previews coming out now, from IGN:

Okay, so I hope you are sitting (do you read IGN standing up?), because this might come as a bit of a shock. At its core, if you really boil it down to its essence, L.A. Noire is an old-school adventure game

Yeah, looks interesting. Telling if people are lying, eh?
Real nice tech right there.
OOh, that is very nice. I love some 1930's detective noir. How long before we get more famous people in non-film video games?

Cosgrove, Walter, three or four other character actors I recognized there.
Would love to see some actual gameplay footage, but every little tidbit I see gets me a little more excited for the game (and that video was mighty impressive)...fucking beyond pumped for this
post #74 of 456
GODDAMMIT ROCKSTAR WHY WON'T YOU MAKE YOUR GAMES FOR PC ANYMORE?!

That IGN preview snippet and the video about how much work went into the facial capture and why it was necessary for gameplay purposes makes me think this is going to be very much like the old Westwood 'Blade Runner' game, AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY IT. GRRR...

If this thing really does manage a level of awesome similar to that of Westwood's Blade Runner, then I don't care if they were releasing this game exclusively on a modded region-locked Neo-Geo, I would adopt the platform. Blade Runner is sick man. First you wonder why some shitty CSI PC-port hasn't managed to successfully rip off the Blade Runner camera puzzles, and then you realize it's because no other game is cool enough to pull off the ultimate in 'ENHANCE' puzzling.

That really is some stunning facial animation.

I know it's all about context, but I found myself more convinced by some of the facial animation in that video than I was by Clu in Tron: Legacy.
Wow. The texturing is still far from perfect, but the facial animation itself is FANTASTIC.

I'm excited to finally see some gameplay. Please, please, please be nothing like Heavy Rain.

I somewhat agree with you here.  I don't want LA Noire to control like Heavy Rain, and from preview articles it sounds like the gameplay here is much different.  However, I would love it if LA Noire has at least half as much atmosphere as Heavy Rain had.  Not the same atmosphere, mind you, just the amount.

Rockstar...one of the very few companies I've actually gained respect for, this gen.

I love that Rockstar has lately been releasing games like they're on some kind of blockbuster movie schedule. Their titles always seem to be the most fun way to kick off the summer season. Red Dead Redemption was easily the highlight of last summer's games.

I like the idea of starting off as a traffic cop, and moving up the LAPD ladder. Seems like an interesting advancement process.

But Timechild, the Allied Atheist Alliance will break you like a clam on their tummy.

BOOSH!!! This looks way to much fun. I really really really can't wait to play this. Will probably be my first ever pre-order

Prepare to be blown away. Those facial animations are incredible.

L.A. Noire Gameplay Series

The expressions are amazing. I'm particularly interested in the area around 1:14. Really suburban. Looks like this is another fantastically-varied map from Rockstar.

So far, so good.

(Does this mean people are gonna start piecing together parts of the mini-maps, like what happened during the lead-up to RDR?)

So basically, all the strengths of Heavy Rain (the motion capture, investigation), plus Rockstar's usual gunplay, plus Uncanny Valley bordering facial tics to work off of.

Goddammit, it's only February.

Finally, some actual game. I'm relieved that this won't be Heavy Noire, but I wonder how they'll pull off the detective sequences. I hope it's more than find-->object, talk-->suspect, repeat.

The facial animations continue to astound.

This looks amazing. If I don't have DRAGON AGE II and PORTAL 2 beat before this comes out, I'm going to have some hard decisions to make.

I think that video looks amazing.  The more of the game they show, the more I want to play it.

A guy I know from work saw the last trailer recently, and said this game looks like "Carmen San Diego 2.0."

He's dead to me.

Whenever I see the interrogation footage, all I can think of is Christopher Walken in 'True Romance'.

"Sicilians are great liars. The best in the world. I'm Sicilian. My father was the world heavy-weight champion of Sicilian liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are seventeen different things a guy can do when he lies to give himself away. A guys got seventeen pantomimes. A woman's got twenty, but a guy's got seventeen... but, if you know them, like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to hell."

See I'm old enough to think of that as a compliment. If this game's as addictive as Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego? was to me all those years ago I'll but Rockstar a frikkin muffin basket.

Looks fucking great.

I just hope they tighten up the on-foot controls.  If trying to negotiate my way around an office chair to collect a piece of evidence on a writing desk doesn't turn in to one of those frustrating "Try & Walk Through This Door" challenges from Red Dead I'd be happy.

I also hope it's much more than GTA in the 40's.  They kept saying Red Dead is not just GTA in the old west, only to give us GTA in the old west.  It was a great game, but I'd like to see RockStar take a different approach.  Looks like team Bondi and RockStar are on the right track, though.

The game has Lie to Me gameplay?!  That's actually pretty exciting!  Those facial animations look way more articulate than the ones from Heavy Rain.

I just went back to GTA IV, and John Marston controls like a dream compared to Niko Bellic. Controlling Niko is like trying to drive a tank underwater while blind and drunk.

Hahaha, that's the first thing I thought of, too. Microexpressions! Enhance the video at frame 19! Angry Tim Roth!

Split screen reveals of the microexpressions of famous Hollywood stars!  BOOM!  BOOM!  (cut to commercial)
