2009-2010 NBA Season

Training camps just opened, and my copy of NBA2K10 has been ordered. NBA starts on Halloween!

So, the stories from training camp seem to be...

Deshawn Stevenson. Decent defender. Great interview. Amazing new tattoos. The great emancipator!

The Warriors will continue to suck, and the players aren't even trying to put on a happy face.

T-Mac looks to be in great shape, but is being held out of practices until November. He is going to be out until at least December, more than likely. His training videos have been impressive.

KG's knee. Word out of camp is he is still hesitant about his knee being in great shape. Would hate to see Boston only get that one legit trophy run.

The referees. Some of the league's refs were hired during the last lockout, so the games likely won't be terrible like some are saying they will. I maintain that basketball is the toughest sport to ref though, so I hope the experienced guys come back.

Shame about Iverson signing with the Grizz over the Heat. Guess he's finally given up.
I've orderd NBA 2K10 too, looking forward to it.

How are the Nets looing this season?
The Magic have sold 4700 more season tickets than they sold last year. They've got a bunch of new players to work into the mix, and it remains to be seen if Vince Carter can work as part of a team and still be the scoring threat to replace Turkoglu they need him to be.

I think the Magic may end up missing Courtney Lee more than they thought, although I do like the influx of big bodies they brought in.

Elvis, AI went to the Grizz because the Heat couldn't add payroll. I don't think it's a bad thing. The Grizz have excellent young talent, and but Conley is a joke in the NBA, so having someone that's capable of scoring 15+ a night and dishing the ball a few times doesn't hurt.

I think the Nets are going to be a lot of fun. Harris should go nuts, Lopez is going to build on a really good rookie campaign, and I think Courtney Lee could really add something to the team. That said, I expect them to remain a 25-30 win club, then the Russkie owner can throw some bucks around.

Dickson, have you watched Carter the last few years in NJ? You shouldn't be disappointed by him. He isn't the high flyer he was (sometimes), but his defense is much better, and his scoring is still efficient. I think the thing that will be missed most for Turkoglu is his passing. He was a damn fine passer for the Magic, and could run the 1-5 in a pinch for them. Vince can handle the ball while making his own shot, but you don't want him trying to create a play.

Looks like you guys may have a new Russian sugar daddy, so shit may change REAL fast.

I'll be following the Celtics from London, so my chances of seeing them on TV are slim. That said, they should go deep in the playoffs again, if KG is healthy. If not...

First of all, hell yes and hell yes! NBA2K10 Demo that dropped yesterday was sweet as candy.

I also agree with Dickson that Lee will be missed but they are still deep and talented. The local media around here in the Houston area is cautiously optimistic about the Rockets while the fans are already boarding up the coffins. It's pretty entertaining on the radio front, especially with all the bitch fits about the Astros.

I'm a Cleveland fan and I think they made some good off-season moves but I think the West is going to be hard to topple this year. Not only that, Orlando is going to be a formidable opponent, moreso than even last year methinks. I have to admit, if teenage Brian could see into the future to now with Shaq on the squad, I wouldn't believe it for a minute. Of course, I don't think he is going to do squat but it's fun for the fans in the area at least. That damn city needs something.

I'm interested in seeing how Artest clicks with the Lakers, I'm sure it will result in a few interesting pressers throughout the year.

I have my fingers crossed with T-Mac and hope he doesn't get snake-bitten with injuries again.

It should be an interesting year, a lot of solid teams this time. One thing about the NBA, there is so much player movement and team reshuffling in the off season, the beginning of every new year is fresh and exciting.

I really want to see a lot of the Blazers and Thunder this year. Yes, the Thunder! Durant is a beast, and Westbrook is damn good. They are going to be a lot of fun.
I'd like to be optimistic about the Pistons, but we got one starting guard too many and that worked out gawdawfully last year with Rip, Stuckey and Iverson. If they are serious about Gordon and Stuckey they need to start looking at trade possibilities for Rip Hamilton, love the guy though I do.

Hopefully this will be the right scenario for Charlie Villanueva. While he has improved his game from year to year, I don't think he has broken out just yet.

It will be nice to see Ben Wallace back in a Piston jersey even if I expect almost nothing from him.

Anyone in Houston, there's a free scrimmage (and free parking!) Saturday at 12:30. Also, the Rowdies audition, if you like free tickets!

Really?!? I just might have to take the wife and the kid out for that. Even though my wife is a filthy Spurs fan she enjoys the Rockets as well. Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to look into it now.

Nevermind, it's my wife's mother's b-day. Boo. I don't even like the woman.

So take her along! Then vanish into the crowd.

Just about a week from first tip off! I was going to see about getting a group together for the Rockets home opener, but no go since it's Halloween.
This is probably just going to be another lost year for the Heat, with them biding their time until next season to see who's available, but I missed my D.Wade. I was going to go to the opener against the Knicks next Wednesday, but instead I'm going to the Dolphins game on Sunday to watch the Saints drop 1,000 pts on our defense.
Blake Griffin broke his kneecap?! I'm starting to side with Bill Simmons: the Clippers are cursed.

Cursed by a terrible, racist, cheap owner that won't hire decent basketball minds and probably skimps out on the medical team as well (owing to all the injuries they seem to incur).

You are aware you already have one of the best players in the game on your team, right?

I am absolutely loving Lowry/Brooks combo. If Scola and Landry had a better game I think we could have got that one from the Blazers. Andersen was a total unknown coming into tonight, but damn do I love his offensive game. If he can play D half as well he is going to have to find time when Yao comes back.
I despise the Celtics, so I was upset to see them outlast the Cavs. Seeing Rasheed in that uniform threw me off...ditto Shaq. I think he and Lebron will indeed work out well together. Lebron played fantastic.

Hows everybody's My Player coming along on 2k10?

I actually haven't had any time to spend with it. All my 2K10 time has been spent playing against my friend at his place on weekends. I created a player, and did a couple scrimmages, and was done with it.

Cavs lost to the Raptors? I'll be heading to that highlight during lunch. And looks like a nice debut for Stephen Curry.

Nothing feels better than beating the Jazz at home, especially with a depleted squad. Chase Budinger is amazing.

He looked so good in the summer league games, I thought he would turn out to be the steal of the draft. But then when his shooting faltered a bit during parts of the preseason, I started to worry that he might just be another Dan Langhi/Steve Novak/Boki Nachbar. But he is obviously more skilled than all those guys and has shown it so far in just 4 games. He certainly doesn't play like a rookie. He makes a few mistakes here and there, but overall he plays within the offense very well and never seems to get lost. Very confident. Daryl Morey is a freaking genius.

And I don't think there is a greater pleasure in the regular season than stomping a mud hole in the Jazz's ass in Utah. That game was fucking beautiful. We will likely see the Rockets slow down somewhat when teams start to realize they have to gameplan completely differently for this Rockets team than for one with Yao. The Jazz didn't seem to realize all game that flopping and hacking approach to anything taken inside doesn't work so well when the guys going inside are small, lightning quick guards like Brooks or Lowry and not a plodding Yao.

But regardless, I think they will turn out to be a lot better than most of the national pundits predicted. Ariza has really impressed me with his shooting. Hopefully when he cools off he doesn't pull an Artest and just keep jacking up shots. The beauty of this team as it is constructed is that we have no superstar, so we have no single player that needs to be force fed. If someone is off for one night, don't go through that player. We have enough decently skilled offensive players that we should never rely on a single source for significant offense production.

How long will Griffin be out for?

Rockets/Lakers was an amazing game. We are going to lose a lot of close games like that until someone emerges as the go to buy. Ariza keeps looking like a steal for the Rockets.

The Heat are off to a good start. It's been forever since they started off the season without having to crawl out from a hole by the fifth game.

Yeah, that's sure opening the eyes of everybody who was ready to simply hand the division to Orlando.

As for the Magic, to be 5-1 without Rashard Lewis and (essentially) without Vince Carter is pretty damn impressive. We've got so much depth.
Wow. Iverson on "indefinite" leave from Grizzlies in order to "clear his head" and deal with issues of a "personal" nature. Sad to see AI heading towards Marbury status so soon into the season...
That sucks about Iverson. When he was in college, straight outta prison, i was a big fan; rooting for him to overcome. Then, during early years in the league, he seemed the future of the funk. However, he really never topped that trip to the Finals. All downhill since break up with Larry Brown. Hope he gets it together.

I haven't caught that many games yet this year, but I gotta give it up for Jamal Crawford. What a great pick up for the Hawks! (Apology accepted Anya!)

What are the biggest surprises so far for you guys? Any player or team shaking it up or falling flat unexpectedly?

Kevin Durant is a lot better than (at least) i expected.
Brandon Jennings has been my biggest surprise, thus far. I honestly thought he might struggle to make the transition from Euro-baller to NBA point guard, but he's been tearing it up for the Bucks.
Has Baron Davis really fallen off?

Tried watching some Clippers--yikes!

On the other hand, as a basketball fan, it's a joy watching the Celtics. Garnett has that old school mentality you gotta love.

He's like the last jedi/samurai.
Didn't think the Heat would be right there neck and neck with Orlando in the Southeast Division.
Your boy Vince Carter doing pretty well?
Elvis, gotta agree with you about the Celts and how fun they are to watch. While the likes of Marbury and AI slide into irrelevancy, it's great to see mid-90s guys KG, Ray and now Sheed still at the head of the pack. Would love to see this squad knock off the Lakers in a reprise of the 2008 Finals.

Well it's early. Plenty of time for the Heat to fall off. But, if the players not named D.Wade keep playing at the level they are, the Heat could surprise some teams.

ETA: It's not like the Heat have scrubs, we've got really talented players, but they're all 22 years old.
What the hell kind of egg was that the Magic laid last night? Sheesh.

Getting a pass on cheap shots, dozens of moving screens, and punching teammates in the face isn't something I love. He's a piece of shit, and he gets away with it all because of his 'passion' and 'physical play'... one of the many double standards in the league. Such garbage.
Ohhh, you!

How does that Kobe jersey fit?
Good win for the Heat last night. I really want to go to the Cavs game on Thursday night, but I won't be in town. I could care less about LeBron, I just want to see Shaq ruin the game for the Cavs like he's been doing all year.

Win, lose, or draw, Wade's dunk on Varejao will live on in my heart forever.
Brandon Jennings has singlehandedly made the Bucks interesting again. At least for the short term.

Good deal. We'll give you that spectacular dunk, we'll take the W. See, everyone is happy!
Move over Wade...how about that Lawson kid?!!!! What a dunk!

The Nuggets are now my favorite Western squad. I can't believe the leaps and bounds Carmelo Anthony continues to make.

However, the big story of the night: Th Atlanta Hawks!!!! Spanked the Celtics at the Garden.

We're for real folks!

Jamaal Crawford the FA signing of the off-season?

A geek out suggestion for the hardcore: anybody want to attempt a power ranking ( a la USA Today) each week/ month; would be interesting discussion starter/debate fodder.
Why did God mislead Iverson?

I see what you guys mean about Brandon Jennings! Wow.
Dallas keeps reshuffling to their detriment, but this year's mix looks formidable. Dirk seems hungry.
Looks like Iverson may be close to signing on the dotted line with the Knicks (with Miami apparently in the hunt, too). Personally, I'd welcome the sight of AI adding some star power -not to mention a bit of pride- to a hapless New York side. Seems like a one-year deal would be a can't lose situation for both parties.

He left after 3 games in Memphis because he's a cry baby bitch. How can his selfishness help any team?

At this point how could he hurt the Knicks?
