I love my lists. No regrets. The 80's picks were more heart than head picks, but I'd argue all are solid and worthy of inclusion (for different reasons of course). My Aught's list is very skewed to early 2000's, but those are some damn fine flicks.

Diva's 60s list is shaping up nicely. I like Keith and Molt's 70s lists best.

Wow, Richard's 80s draft might be the most obvious thing ever.

I'm pretty happy with my lists, save the "what the fuck was I thinking" of picking War Games in the second round of the 80s draft. I'm also not entirely sure about The Aristocrats in the 00s, but I love that film a lot. Not as much as the others, though.

My 00s draft idicates:

a) lack of good things in the 00s

or

b) my inability to draft well (regardless of whether or not I think the pictures I picked are great, which they are)

Very happy with my 70s draft. Though not sure what it actually says about me vs my actual predilections in film. Seems a little limited in scope.

I just don't feel the need to avoid picking popular films because they're popular.

Sigh...

60's Draft

1. Lolita - a film by Stanley Kubrick. Released in 1962.
2. Seconds - John Frankenheimer's motion picture version of David Ely's novel, beamed into theaters in 1966.
3. Jules and Jim - Two guys fall in love with the same girl in this 1962 French picture directed by François Truffaut.
4. Teorema - A pretty complicated masterpiece by Pasolini that apparently no one around here has ever heard of, but it was released to much controversy in 1968.
5. Incubus - Leslie Stevens' oddball Esperanto thriller, released in 1965 with a then unknown Shatner trying his best to deliver dramatically clipped dialog in a language no one speaks.
6. Fando & Lis - Jodorowsky's first brainfuck, which premiered in the Acapulco Film Festival of 1968 and led to the audience chasing him out of the theater throwing stones... And that's really all you need to know before viewing this maddening, yet brilliant, film.

70's Draft

I didn't participate in this because I was nobody around here. If I had, it would have kicked your ass.

80's Draft

I wish I could have been around with you guys for that one. Me too, kid, me too. Really? Yeah... I wouldn't have to do this. *slits kid's throat*

90's Draft

1. The Silence Of The Lambs - Jonathan Demme's motion picture version of Thomas Harris' airport book. It won lots of awards and got great reviews back in 1991. It also made tons of money. It wasn't the first movie with that guy from The Wolf Man, but it might as well have been.
2. The English Patient - A big, romantic picture from 1996 that J. Peterman thought was extraordinary. It cost Elaine Benes her job.
3. Happiness - A wonderful movie about a little boy who finally learns how to masturbate properly. I suppose there's more to it than that, since it's nearly 2 and a half hours long and has tons of characters. But that's the general narrative thrust of the film.
4. Speed - An epic film about America at the edge of the 21st Century. Directed by the guy who shot Die Hard and should have been shot himself before directing anything else.
5. Ghost - A nice movie you may have heard of released late in the summer of 1990 to rave reviews and boffo box office. It's about a dead guy with a pottery wheel phallus fetish and he stabs his best friend with a giant piece of glass at the end. It's pretty good. But people seem to have forgotten that's the case. Damn Philistines.
Bonus: Darkman - Sam Raimi's superior comic book movie that should have led to several fantastic sequels and a spin-off comic book published by Marvel Comics. Instead, it led to an unplayable video game by OCEAN (what else is new?) and a couple of DTVs with Arnold Vosloo. Life is interesting.

00's Draft

1. Ghost World - The 2001 movie that failed to make Thora Birch the biggest star in the world and fuck you all for allowing that to not happen.

2. Sideways - A delightful road movie from 2005 about a couple of assholes who drink a lot of wine. And one of them doesn't have the balls to fuck Virginia Madsen.

3. The Prestige - Christopher Nolan's live-action 2006 remake of Friz Freeling's "Show Biz Bugs." With Hugh Jackman in top form as Daffy and Christian Bale equally excellent as Bugs Bunny. Nolan's unique vision stands alone and makes you forget the original. This is a great film.

I believe the Aught's were the first of the decade drafts. It wasn't clear that we would be doing each decade, and I think it was chosen to maximize participation (many people claimed they didn't know enough about earlier decades). The drafts had sort of died down because Nick was busy and Kirby thankfully jumped in to ensure that this fun game didn't get lost in CHUD history. Once the Aught's were over and new Chewers could see how the game was played, the decade drafts have sort of taken on a life of their own.

I like my 70's draft the best. I'd do things differently if I re-did the 80's and aughts. Not that I don't like those films but looking at them they bore me a bit.

Sweet bonus round in the 00's, Yando. I love those two flicks.

Bump.

It might be populist and obvious, but if I was told I could only watch my 80s draft for the rest of my life, I think I'd be okay with it.

I don't even remember how I finished that draft... gonna have to look that up to finish updating my list. I got terrible news during the middle of that draft and it's all a blur.
