The Losers

I have started picking up the trades in anticipation for the movie adaptation (finished the 2nd one over the weekend), and so far pretty good stuff. It isn't as hard hitting as something like Scalped or DMZ, but it makes for good espionage/action fiction so far.

I like the quotes at the end of the trades, just wish there was more stuff like that through out the books (one of my favorite parts of Nightly News were all the quotes and references throughout the book).

I can see why this got scooped up for a movie. Hope they do it right, because like Warren Ellis' Red, you can have a nice commentary on the current state of the American Intelligence community or you can have a shoot 'em up.

It's being directed by the guy who brought us STOMP THE YARD. I read all the trades and I'm really hoping this turns out well (Fincher was able to go from ALIEN 3 to SEVEN, after all), but I'm guessing it'll be more of a shoot 'em up than the biting and thought-provoking commentary we're hoping for.

This is the series that got me into Vertigo. I picked up the trade a few years ago and then went and scooped up all of the single issues. Great thing the comic store I go to every so often, they have great sales on back issues that they want to dump. And usually they have a lot of Vertigo back issues they want to dump.

I just have to spew some love for Andy Diggle and Jock. Being a child of the Image years I couldn't get into Jocks' style at first but it didn't take me too long to fall in love with it. I really missed him for the few issues that he didn't draw. And what can I say about Diggle? He just kicks all kinds of ass. I'm happy that he's on to bigger things at Marvel but I wish he was still doing a small title for Vertigo. Something he created himself (or remade/updated).

I just hope that they do the movie right. The cast is pretty fantastic. The only one that sticks out as questionable to me is Chris Evans as "Jensen". I'd would have liked to see Sam Rockwell for that role.

No question I'd rather have Berg on this, but the cast is pretty solid.
