I still DO like Star Wars - Page 31

I'm surprised after all these years, Lucas as yet to put out his own line of flannel shirts...And I agree..just leave the man alone.

And besides, if you've moved on from Star Wars, what are doing here?  The fact that you're even posting suggests you in fact have not moved on.  I don't go into the Star Trek thread and tell people  who are still talking about The Search For Spock to get a life, because I don't think about that film much anymore.

My first intent in this thread was to troll, didn't work to well lol. But uh, moved on? No, obviously not, but I just can't sit through the movies anymore (I've tried there's just nothing that grabs me about them anymore), not even the original or TESB and I still love them.

Anyone check out the Facebook timeline for Star Wars?  Apparently some movie called "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" was released on May 25, 1977.

No it wasn't, George.  No it wasn't.  I'm fine with you tinkering with these movies and renaming them afterwards to fit the sequels, but on May 25, 1977, STAR WARS was released.  There was no "Episode IV" or "A New Hope" nonsense in the title.

Return of the Jedi was on yesterday.  Man it's clunky.  Still love it, but, ouch, way more ham-fisted then I remember.

Ahem.

So.

Howzabout some video footage from the New Star Wars Kinect game?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Word is it's terrible...a gimmick.  But who knows.  The idea of using your body like a jedi is very cool, it just sounds like the actual game sucks.

I don't think you watched the video. You don't type like you've been traumatized. I couldn't stop laughing, because that's my stoic way of dealing with intense physical pain.

Watch it for real this time, then come back.

Not at all.  I don't have much time to post here, let alone make little videos criticizing a 15 year old movie.  I found this link in Patton Oswalt's twitter feed.

His presentation is a little comical--for effect probably--but he makes very, very good points that, frankly, many people have made here.  On top of that, it's presented with a bit more charm and whimsy than that insufferable red letter media guy.

Absolutley disagree - RLM created a comical persona that played the stereotypical fanboy/wierdo to the max - this guy just doesn't see what a self-absobed ass he is. He makes points that are no more valid than yours or mine or anyone elses' outside of Lucas. Not saying Lucas got it right (far from it), we've all bashed the prequels and Lucas to high heaven and I'm not saying he's allowed a free pass, but this guy has come from nowhere and is just spouting off his theories on how awesome his ideas are over Lucas'.

With that said, everyone is allowed to have views on the prequels and have ideas on how they wished they turned out (this thread alone is testament to that) but to create a 10 minute vid outlining where Lucas went wrong and how their ideas are so much better is just sad. Especially as its 10 years after the party.

At the end he asks for suggestions on what people want to see next - I want him to take his brilliant ideas, craft them into a world-conquering franchise and then I'll pay him his due - until then, he can remain fucked-off - he's just an asshole with a camera and an opinion thats as valid as a chimp's. Or mine.

I'm still shocked that anything related to Star Wars rapidly descends into venom, even after all this time.  The guy made a cooky video with, I thought, very good points.  So did Patton Oswalt, fanboy extraordinaire.  RLM was funny at first but then it became so ponderous.  These movies (with TESB being a bit of an exception, as it's a bit more grownup, but not by much) have been, and always will be, mass entertainment aimed primarily at children (boys specifically) between ages of 8-16.  That doesn't mean that everyone can't enjoy them, as the best stories have something for everyone.  But George Lucas never started out to make Godfather in Space.

Part of the art of the RLM reviews is that, for all we know, continuing to make them after they had become tiresome might itself be part of the Star Wars parody.

I love how the rabid Star Wars fans constantly hound Lucas about Episodes 7-9 when they, above all others, should know that he's already done everything he intended to do in them.  Want to see Episodes 7-9?  Watch Return of the Jedi.  It's all there folks!

I thought it was hilarious how the TMZ guy asked about ep. 7-9 with Ford, Hammil and Fischer.

Fischer is Jabba The Hutt now

A near geriatric Han Solo groveling his way through scenes?  Why?

Hamill as an aging Jedi Master is the only thing that doesn't make my stomach turn, but that's not saying much

They should ditch Hamill and cast Bob Costas as Luke Skywalker.  That guy looks more like an older Mark Hamill as an older Luke Skywalker than Mark Hamill currently does.

And, to be fair to Carrie, she's actually lost quite a bit of weight.  But if she wears another metal bathing suit, she should probably stick to a one piece or one of those old timey head-to-toe ensembles that Goofy wore to the beach.

...or they do episodes 7-9 as all CGI with the Hammel, Ford and Fisher's voices YES YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!

Before he finally made it clear that the eventual live action TV series (currently titled Star Wars: Underworld) was going to be set between the PT and the OT, I'd always thought it would be fun to get a Kung Fu-style show of Luke wandering the galaxy dispensing justice along the way.........with a fun batch of new supporting characters in tow.  Fanwanking to the max.

That would definitely be cool.

Star Wars: Underworld?! My mind flashed to an unholy Crossover film before I could stop it!

Don't know if it's been linked before, but this cartoon series is adorable...

Obiwan Kenobi arrested on charge of hit-and-run

Obi-Wan Kenobi was always a bit of a rogue Jedi, even lamenting his own former lack of patience during a dramatic exchange with Yoda in "The Empire Strikes Back."

But a California man who legally changed his name to match that of the fictional "Star Wars" hero may have given in to the temptations of the dark side of the Force, as he was charged with a hit-and-run.

According to the Auburn Press Tribune, Obiwan Kenobi was allegedly responsible for a five-car accident and is charged with leaving the scene after the wreck occurred.

And as Yoda warned the fictional Kenobi, "Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse."

In fact, things are far worse for the 37-year-old, who has been charged with a felony in the case by Roseville police. According to the paper, Kenobi was already wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor petty theft charge.

Born Benjamin Cale Feit, Kenobi changed his name to that of the "Star Wars" character as part of a 1999 radio station contest. At least up until the hit-and-run charge, formally associating himself with "The Phantom Menace" may have been the biggest accident in Kenobi's life.

After spending five days in jail, Kenobi was released from custody on Thursday without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30.

Christ the guy is born with the last name of FEIT, but he changes his name to Obiwan Kenobi?! The fuck?!

His destiny clearly layed along a different path.

EDIT:  Can't believe I of all people screwed that line up...

Who's the more foolish? The fool or the fool who plows into five cars and flees the scene?

Apparently, they DID need to see his identification.

Look like Darth's been hitting too many bantha-burgers.

Doesn't matter who wears the mask, no one fills the suit out like Dave Prowse.

Watch this and you will laugh your head off!

The lengthy intros to each scene sort of kill the momentum.  And man, Tara Strong is cute as hell, but boy do all her voices sound the same.

AND the new Star Wars game, titled, Star Wars 1313 will be about the underworld of Coruscant. Also for once, it looks like Lucas Arts is making it instead of just having some other company handle it.

Science Proves Luke Skywalker Should Have Died in the Tauntaun's Belly

My favorite bit:

What is inside the belly of a tauntaun? Feces, bile, stomach acid and more wonderful biological fluids. The wampa Luke fought in the previous scene left him with several lacerations. Any feces that comes in contact with these open wounds would make for a wonderful breading ground for infection.

The nerd rage in the comment section over inaccuracies in the article is also quite enjoyable.

Low temperature would slow the rate of any infection, and Luke was in that Bacta tank within 24 hrs. That complaint does seem remarkably nitpicky.

Plus, I thought midichlorians fought infection, like super white blood cells. That is why you get a WBC count and Midichlorian count, right?

Also Han light sabered the shit out of that Tauntaun. Literally. Nothing but hide that he wrapped Luke up in. Didn't this guy watch the movie?!

Why didn't Luke kill the wampa, and stay in its shelter? Its better than running out into a below freezing night, and he didn't know Han was looking for him.

The tauntaun's innards excrete something molecularly similar to a combination purell & ibuprofen, duh. I can't believe this isn't common knowledge, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Sigh.

Just.

Sigh.  Is Seth McFarlane in charge of this?

HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAH.

I want Lucas to keep this train of thought going.  I wanna see how far he can take this.

It really does feel like a McFarlane thing.

Just wretched.

I laughed at "Go haunt Yoda!" and that was about it.  This would be fine if it was a 30-minute one-shot special, but how can they maintain this for a series?

I can imagine Rick McCallum laughing uproariously to all of that.
