Up on XBLA now. Trial hasn't done much for me, actually. Sad, because it was nice to see Lucasarts trying something unique for once.

None of the videos for this ever got me excited for it. The art style is kind of interesting, but the gameplay just looked extremely boring to me. From what I've read, the actual game isn't much better than my low expectations for it.

My sentiments exactly. The trailer has some wonderful, stylised animation, but then they show the gameplay, and I'm like, "That's it?".

It's incredibly boring. Also it centers on another goddamn collect-a-thon as you're collecting fireflies in each level. Why? I dunno. The slow pace doesn't help things at all. I already deleted it off my hard drive.

I don't mind the pace, and I even kinda like the gameplay. But from what I can see in the demo, there's not much payoff, either viscerally or intellectually. Nothing funny/exciting/interesting happens as the girl walks along, and the game's puzzles never appear more clever than Tetris. They were clearly influenced by Braid, but didn't seem to really get what made it a good game.

I dunno...I had the same impression about the 3rd level or so, but once i progressed and unlocked more and more "pieces", the game really picked up...Im enjoying using diverse combinations to get fireflies out of reach.
Its definitely "Braid Lite", but the style is charming and the way the story is told (Im having a downer feeling about the plot) is lovely; plus, its a Lucasarts game that doesnt involve Star Wars.
is like playing a children's book, which i have no doubt was the developers intention.

Finished it last night. Its pretty much "Braid Lite" or "Braid Minus the emo/screwed up plot devices".
Im sure the demo will turn a lot of people from what's actually a pretty nice and sweet game; around the sixth or so level the game picks up because the levels start to have a wave of darkness that will cosnume your character if you screw up and get caught by it, and the six or so items you can use on the character do end up opening a lot of alternatives to guiding her though the levels.
The story, animation and art are the selling points of the game though; its esentially an interactive children's book, but the reveal of what the gameworld and the story are about is quite something, ending up in a heartwarming note...its pretty obvious there were a lot of personal feeling from the creators involved in the game.
Overall, I'd rate it a 7.5 out of ten, but if you liked "lemmings", add another point.
