Cougar Town

This doesn't have the "laugh/cry" sensibility of Scrubs yet, but it's pretty damn funny. I've never been entirely a fan of Courtney Cox, but she's winning me over here. It's a little over the top at times, but Brian Van Holt and Dan Byrd usually make me laugh very hard.

Gave up halfway through the first episode.

I'll be honest, I like the show. It's not as funny as Modern Family but it is funny. The cast has great chemistry for a new show and some lines each week really, really slay me. I thought the show would be a one note joke about Cox hooking up but it's done a really good job of parlaying the storylines and strengths of other characters to do more than that. You can definitely tell the show comes from the creator(s) or Scrubs because of how the cast interacts and some of the way lines are delivered.

And let's stop right there. I know it's from Bill Lawrence because he casts his unsufferable wife in yet another show.

I've actually started to really like the show. Unfortunately the show is at its funniest when it's dealing with the guys. The parts with Courtney Cox just aren't that great.

I don't mind Bill Lawrence's wife at all (she was entertaining as Jordan and funny enough as Kate on the Drew Carey Show) but she's not the best part of the show at all.

That would be Busy Phillips in a bikini.

Agreed...if you could get rid of all those moles. Gah!

But yeah, nachos nailed it, the guys are the best part of the show.

Yeah, those were a little troubling.

I don't hate this show, but I honestly like The Middle more. And it seems like an odd transition out of Modern Family.

How is the son's friends not over all the time? If I had a friend with a mom who looked like that and the mom had a friend who looked like that (and they both drank), I would be over constantly.

I always found her character to be the death of comedy on Scubs. She's decent on Cougar Town, and she was a likeable-enough straight woman for the Drew Carey show, but her ever-increasing screen time on Scrubs is one of the things that made me come to dislike the show after such a good run on with its first few seasons.

Also, she has a really bad plastic surgeon.

Yeah, she's gross. She probably pees out her cooter too.

I dated a girl who looked so much like Busy Phillips that after I got dumped I couldn't watch FREAKS & GEEKS for a year. Except my girl had DDs.

I like this show too. It's already been said, but I think the guys are the best part of the show too, and Busy Phillips. She's just a fun character. Cox and whastername have their moments too, but beside Cox being gorgeous, they are the weak links.

An exchange from the last show:
Whatshername (To Busy): Were going shopping for underwear, you know, the items of clothing that most people wear under their skirts?
Busy: Pass.

Look at that, Community and Modern Family weren't the only good new sitcoms this year. This show is really quite funny and charming.

If you skipped Cougar Town I suggest you give it a try. The AV Club has a nice piece on it and HitFix interviews Bill Lawrence on how they tweaked the show when they realized the whole cougar thing wasn't really working.

For the few of us who care, season two starts tomorrow the 22nd. There's a short piece about the writers on The New York Times website.

Amazing episode tonight, especially for fans of SCRUBS and the Michael Cane/Shirley Mcclaine movie GAMBIT. Courtney Cox is hugely underrated on this show.

I came to say the same, glad the show is getting a little love here. The air-chopping Tom Cruise run was incredible.
