This alone should really end all speculation as to the validity of the survey. You could throw out all the other factors and this simple question still gives you an irrefutable answer as to whether ethnicity plays into choice of mate.

God, this dipshit didn't just invoke the "I have black friends" qualifier, he went with "piles and piles".

Quite a sobering read, but not all that surprising. I tried dating sites back in the day and found out quickly that how I specified my race influenced who messaged me. I wish the blogger talked about systematic racism a little bit more. I think people are less apt to hear facts like these because its easy to say "Some people are racist, but not me." The powerful impact of this analysis is that no matter how innocent any individual preference is, if you look at the way that preference twists and turns over a large group, as we see in this study, racism clearly exists at the systemic level. Across the board, the people on OKCupid, and likely all of America, find white men more attractive and black women as less attractive. This stems from being socialized in a society that values whiteness.
Long topic and probably already addressed, etc, but a person's preference to what they find attractive has nothing to do with whether or not they are racist. All things being equal, I find short women to be less attractive than tall women, however that does not mean I discriminate against short women in any other situation, nor does that mean I won't be friends with a short women or think any less of them.

Good job reading the thread.

I said I didn't read the thread. If this was addressed the fact that it continued much beyond this is befuddling unless everyone else was in agreement.

Yes, that's what I was suggesting in shorthand form. Either you do that, or give the same people another set of responses w/o race specified and see whether there are still biases towards certain races (which would confirm/eliminate other social/cultural factors).

Daves are known for garnering high response rates.
But are they higher from white males?

I'm not sure what this means. I'd assume user-written questions are not answered uniformly or as often as the site's own questions.

And why does the data show women far more strongly preferring men of their own race than vice versa?

Maybe you should try, I don't know, reading the fucking thread.

Just one of the studies showing African-american women have higher testosterone levels than women of other races.

The balance or disbalance between estrogen and testosterone has an enormous role in human appearance, attitude, behaviour.

People ( both men and women ) of W.African origin have on average much higher testosterone levels than other races.

Now, there are several distinct genetic clusters ( or 'races' ) in Africa.
Somalians, Ethiopians and other east Africans belong into a completely different cluster. The Khoi-San people of South Africa belong to another,
and they do exhibit very different phenotypes... and exhibit lower levels of testosterone than West Africans ( the place of origin of the vast majority of today's black population of America ).

Other studies have shown that men of all races prefer women with elevated estrogen levels... not elevated testosterone levels.

Dating websites or reality, IMHO, stats will show that men just won't date women whose appearance and behaviour clearly exhibits higher testosterone levels.

I suggest reviewing Cornell University's five criteria for evaluating websites (I'm using Cornell, but it's echoed at pretty much any institution of higher learning - in any case, I'm citing credible sources here). Check out 1 and 2, particularly, and then tell us what you know about the author, James Michael Howard of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He doesn't mention any academic credentials, affiliations with any school or organization that deals in this research, or much of anything. If you seek out information on him on the web, you find his name pops up a lot, but there's virtually no information about him. This is not a good source.

Now, the obvious retort is that OKCupid isn't a solid scholarly source, either, and this is entirely true. However, unlike Howard, we can easily find things out about that organization, and, from what I can see, there are few advantages to them pointing out the racial elements in their matching service. We can draw some conclusions about where they're coming from. With Howard, we've got nothin'.
