Is the New TEXAS CHAINSAW Film A Sequel?

The last sentence is lovely.

"More urban" = developing Michael Myers as a complex character with a rich backstory, but sure, go crazy.

"What we're going to do with it is bring it to 2010"

Oh wow, what a great concept... so the victims won't be wearing flares then? Amazing idea.

You're not thinking it through.

The year's goriest de-friending scene? Definitely.
Phil, I know it's a little off topic but your twitter joke reminded of this film related twitter mock-up I found rather funny http://img243.imageshack.us/i/roybtwit.jpg/

Fuck, I really really hate Twisted Films.

And not because of some fan loyalty to the Chainsaw film(s). Only because they're possibly the most successful utter hacks I've ever had to watch take over cinemas.
Will still be better than Platinum Dunes' versions.
The PD versions aren't that bad. Incomparable to the original maybe, but then - what is? Ever seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation? I say that Biel easily gave one of the best survivor girl performances of the decade, Tucker wasn't bad either and then you'll add Ermey.

Note how they add that the new movie will have to do with cannibalism. Yowza. Was only topic in every one of them.
Phil, that was gold.

Does this mean we'll be getting a Chainsaw vs. Jigsaw film in the future? *gets scared*
post #13 of 43
The subtext line was funny. I hope they still have the subtext of "man, that chainsaw is loud."

I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the PD version. The small dusty town really held a great deal of menace, which is unusual for a horror film in that so many of the scenes were set in daylight and still managed to scare me. That is why I am disappointed that they're going for a more urban feel this time around. The cinematography and setting were the strongest aspect of the Jessica Beil TCM film.

I'll just be happy with my Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 and ignore this shit. I suggest all of you do as well.

Was completely absent from the 2003 version. (Maybe Twisted Pictures' definition of "subtext" is "missing"?)

Twisted has never released a film as bad as The Hitcher or The Unborn. Let's have some perspective.

They released SAW I-V.
...which are all better than The Hitcher and The Unborn.
Come on, Freddy, Saw V ain't better than dying.
*yawn*

TCM escapes from one production company of uninspired horror movies, only to fall into the hands of Twisted Pictures. In my brain I'm filing this information under non-news.

I'll reserve my judgment until I see a decent look at the movie. But this news has done a whole lot more than lower my expectations, and after TCM: The Beginning, my expectations were pretty low.
Saw V may be death, but The Unborn is eternal torment. We're talking levels here. I'm not arguing that Saw's a good flick here. Just that they're worse.

Though I doubt Twisted Pictures can even approach Texas Chainsaw '03. Unpopular opinions be damned, that's a very solid slasher flick.

THE UNBORN has Gary Oldman AS A RABBI, evil Jew ghosts, Odette Yustman in her underwear and Idris Elba. No contest.
PD had

The Hitcher (horrible)
The Unborn (horrible)
Horsemen (horrible)
The Amityville Horror (watchable)
The Texas Chainsaw Remake (good)
The Texas Chainsaw Remake Prequel (watchable)
The Friday Remake (good)

TP had

Saw (good)
Saw II (watchable)
Saw III (horrible)
Saw IV (horrible)
Saw V (horrible)
Repo: The Genetic Opera (horrible)
Catacombs (horrible)
Dead Silence (watchable)

That is
3x horrible, 2x watchable and 2x good VS
5x horrible, 2x watchable and 1x good

Oh, horror is fucked.

Saw V has Costas fucking Mandylor, Julie Benz, a goddamn pendulum, and someone yelling, "You're a monster!!!" with complete sincerity.

Sadly, Yustman's charms are lost on me. I spent time on a set with her ex where all he'd ever do was talk about her, so even her face makes me roll my eyes.

EDIT:

You watched Catacombs? Even I knew to stay away from it. Had no idea that was Twisted Pics.

Julie Benz hasn't been attractive in a decade.

I'd take that over Odette Yustman. Maybe I just like older women who aren't rail thin.

Debate...dead and buried.
Catacombs has Pink. And Shannyn Sossamon, who by now, after Catacombs, One Missed Call and Devour is a genre guarantee that whatever she's in, will suck. Wait, I noticed something else. Pink was also in Rollerball and Charlies Angels II. Another guarantee? They probably do have the same agent.

And I'm in for Odette, even though that butt looks shopped like hell and she wasn't on set when Stallone got on the .50.
Gotta be honest here - I saw the first Saw and the two PD Chainsaw movies. So all these other ones you're arguing about are just posters on the internet. And The Unborn wins at Posters On The Internet.
I am proud to say that I have never seen any of the Saw films despite being told by a family member on multiple occasions "They're awesome. You love horror movies so you'll really like 'em".

I'm still hoping my sister divorces that guy.

A great open letter to twisted pictures from Outlaw Vern.

It's his love for Part 2 which really warms my soul. I friggin' love part 2.

What frustrates me about Vern is that it's someone who definitely knows their shit (though he's fannishly forgiving of TCM 2, his points are all valid), but it's such a nuanced-yet-obvious schtick that I just want to know who's behind it. I was never a Joe Bob loyalist; I always got itchy wondering if John Bloom hated that he had to be that character all the time. And it seems he did. It's akin to Roger Ebert playing Zacherley. I'm exaggerating, but you know what I mean.

From Vern -

The Shock Till Ya Drop quote seems promising for this one, but I still want to mention it because of how badly they blew this one in the remake. THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE is not just the story of Leatherface!
Man, I actually thought the remake got this right. I found R. Lee Ermey far more intimidating in TCM '03 than Leatherface.
But the '03 version got all his other examples of humor and perversion way wrong. Or unmined, at any rate.
I thought Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was good because it was the R. Lee Ermey show. The stupid shit of "explaining" everything (most of it in the friggin' opening credits) aside.

Ermey was also the best thing in the remake. He grabs every scene and runs with it.
I like both the Platinum Dunes versions of TCM, the second one (first, chronologically) got bashed and slaughtered by the critics bur I liked it's downbeat, gory and hopeless nihilism. Obviously it being a prequel killed any hope for the good guys from the start but it still was a decent stab in my opinion.

The face removal sequence alone was suitably grotesque and a fitting way for the iconography to be born when compared to the silent wet fart that was Jason's discovery of the hockey mask... that was fucking shit.
Isn't it funny that none of the six movies in the franchise actually features a massacre? Only very few get killed, and I think The Beginning has the most direct chainsaw kills with something like three.

It's been nearly a year since this was announced. A CHUD suggestion: investigative follow-ups to potentially bullshit press releases.

Maybe it's supposed to be a surprise.

That'd be pretty cool. Everytime any flick gets a half-decent opening weekend the producers always spit out some "THE SEQUEL WILL BE EVEN BETTAH!" gumph.
