White Collar -USANetwork

White Collar will be taking Psych's timeslot next week as Psych goes on hiatus until January or so.

White Collar looks good. Casting Matt Bomer, BRYCE from CHUCK, was an excellent choice... I can't even remember if Bryce is still alive or not, but since USA network and NBC work together, I'm sure Matt can still make cameo's on Chuck.

Also in the cast is Willie Garson, who is a great character actor. And of course Tiffani Thiessen from Saved by the Bell.

I'm going to give this a go.. at least on my DVR.

Yeah I'll be checking it out. USA comes up with a few gems every now and again.
I'll check it out. But something about Bomer wearing the fedora bugs the shit outta me.
I'll certainly give it a chance, the advertisements look interesting enough.

I think Schwartz said he's dead for good.

For our "...the fuck?" news-item for today, Bomer has apparently co-created and written a pilot for the CW - Nashville.
Tim DeKay is in this also. I think he's pretty good.

From that article:

Also on the CW docket is the space-themed "Plymouth Rock," from Rob Thomas -- the scribe behind UPN's and CW's "Veronica Mars," and the original exec producer behind the C-Dub's revived "90210."

Thomas will exec produce "Plymouth" with Danielle Stokdyk and Jennifer Gwartz, as well as Dan Etheridge. That's the foursome behind Starz's cult fave "Party Down," in addition to "Cupid" and "Veronica Mars."

Soap centers on young people on a ship traveling to a distant planet in order to colonize and save the human race.
Yes, plz.
I'm still amazed how convincingly Bomer came across as Superman/Clark Kent (and Brett Ratner, of all people, wanted him in the role during his ill-fated tenure with the franchise!)
This is getting good reviews.

Also, Natalie Morales from "The Middleman" starts in episode 2. That is the sound of awesome.
I plan on checking it out tonight. I'm hoping for an hours worth of entertainment with an engaging plot and some decent comedy. I'm really looking forward to Matt Bomer, from the clips I've seen he seems like a really talented actor, and I think this show will be a great stepping off point for him. Here's hoping that tonight starts the success of another enjoyable USA show.
Did anyone watch the short lived show Traveler? Loved the hell out of that. Though I may be the only one.
Phish, Bomer is pretty go as Chuck's perpetual cock-blocker on "Chuck". He was in only a few episodes, though.
Very enjoyable - albeit in a "pilot-ee" way (i.e. setting shit up). This could definitely be something worthwhile. Matthew Bomer is charming as Hell.
It was good..gets a spot on the DVR.
Yeah. Goodbye Dollhouse, hello White Collar.

I really enjoyed the pilot. Kelly Kapowski doesn't seem old enough to be married to Jonesy but whatever. I really like the rapport between DeKay and Bomer. Nothing like that would happen in real life but I'll go with it for an hour a week.
I liked the dynamic between DeKay and Bomer as well. Better writing than Leverage in the pilot, but still not as slick, stylish and humorous as Burn Notice. Will keep watching.

It looks like it's a size too small, and the way his hair comes out underneath makes it look funny.

I'm enjoying this so far. Bomer's got a smarmy charisma to him.

Loved the pilot episode.. but my DVR also recorded ?another? episode on Saturday. I'm assuming its the same one just will full commercials.
I really liked it. Sepinwall pointed out that there's no need for them to manufacture a lot tension between the two leads, and I agree. Even though they were on opposite sides of the law, there's a genuine respect between there that shows. I dig the Catch Me if You Can vibe (and that's obviously what they're going for -- one of the scenes at the airport with DeKay in his trenchcoat and Bomer in his suit is very much like that movie), and the back-and-forth between the two leads is very Midnight Run. This could be Bomer's breakout show if he plays it right.
I like the chemistry between the leads, but some of the writing is really weak. I'll give the season a chance.
Awesome stuff. More literate than I expected.
I thought it was a fun show. Could be interesting if we see more of a dynamic between Bomer's team and the FBI. How one side is always playing catch up to the other.

Loved the bit over coffee about her husband being a felon too.
I enjoyed that show. But it really seems to be yet another show that lives and dies by it's leads charm. Not by it's plot or storytelling.

not a bad episode. Like the new FBI addition. I hope she stays.

Looks like next week Charlie from Fringe will be stopping by too.
One thing I really dug in the pilot is when Neil and the wife were sitting down with coffee on the couch and the show played it like she was meeting her husband's mistress for the first time and they were getting along fabulously.

I think it's a pretty rare American TV show where that's not the case.
I found the second episode much less entertaining than the first. I'll give it another episode or two but that one disappointed me.

Bomer was on late night with Jimmy Fallon last night. Pretty good but quick interview.
Charming show that is sadly in the Friday night death slot. I don't know how strong it would be without the ridiculously charming Bomer in the lead. The banter between Caffrey and Burke is great, but the rest leaves something to be desired. The bad guys haven't been really memorable yet. I do enjoy Caffrey's story, the lost love, etc.

And of course, James Rebhorn!

Will keep it up on either DVR or On Demand.
It's not a 'Friday night death slot' for USA though. They've had Monk and Psych there for years now. Since this is Monk's last season they're probably looking for something to keep there with Psych (although I think this show would go better with Burn Notice, L&O: CI, or even the annoying In Plain Sight).
Yeah Friday Night Death Slot doesn't apply for USA. Their shows are matching (and some exceeding) the networks on that night. White Collar is doing great actually.
Is that relatively speaking? Cable shows don't need the ratings of a network show to do great, right?
I thought this week's episode was pretty good. I wish they'd dedicate a little bit more time to the wine bottle mystery, though. Next week it looks like Garret Dillahunt will be the bad guy. He was a great recurring bad dude on Life so I hope they use him in the same way here.

What happened to the trainee agent from the pilot? Did she get another gig or something so they had to replace her with this other girl?
I wish this show was a little longer every week. A few extra minutes to flesh out the weekly mystery and a few for the banter and overall mystery.
The leads are so good, its the plots that need to catch up, they're boring. I hope it has a leap in quality in its second season like Burn Notice did. Hell, Leverage is much more engaging.

I'll elaborate, even its weakest season, the first, I could still happily watch Burn Notice and be completely engaged with it. The pacing, the writing, all top notch.

Friday's episode was good.

The guy from Terminator SCC = awesome
The chance the bottle mystery might turn into a National Treasure type episode = Hopeful
Detective Buke meeting Mozzie = smart

lots of good stuff getting set up.
Yeah, this episode was significantly better than the past 2 weeks. It saved it from getting bumped off the watch list.
I love the scene on last Friday's episode where Neal, Peter, and Mozzie are all at Neal's place drinking and Mozzie starts going off on why they commit crimes and Neal is trying to get him to stop. Was cool to see Mozzie and Peter finally meet. All in all another entertaining episode. Hopefully tonight's will be another good one.
As with most USA shows, the Neal, Mozzie and Peter scene highlighted why their motto is 'characters welcome'. They do characters, banter and personal talk so good that I don't care or notice that the mystery plots aren't up at the same level.
Good episode this week. I really like what they did with the Kate subplot. I think they could do a lot of things with the idea that the "guy with the ring" is looking for one particular piece from Neal's hoard rather than the whole shebang.

yeah 2 good episodes in a row. The dialogue really is getting good between the two leads. Loved the whole opening driving sequence.
I think this past Friday's episode was perhaps the best so far...plot wise. It was a really complex story with the painting and who it actually belonged to and I thought it was really creative the way the writers were able to have Neal once again, do the "wrong" thing, but was actually doing the right thing, and it was a win win for everyone.

Another good episode, highlighted with a curveball tip on who Kate's captor is.

Loved the Gremlins and Raiders references and of course Peter's socks.
I was initially angry at the "reveal" of who Kate's captor is, because it just doesn't make logical sense, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see the details of it next week.
Good episode this week, I've really come to like this show. I like how while there's a formula set they haven't felt redundant yet. I'm also liking the way they're setting up the bigger mystery of who has Kate though admittedly the twist of who has her was a little weird.
That Interpol agent was such a big fat liar that I don't know why Neal would trust her about the identity of Ring Man. I'm interested to see where it goes, though.
I'm looking forward to seeing the season finale tomorrow night. I too have been really impressed with the writing on this show so I'm hoping that can pull something cool out of this Kate storyline.
FALL season finale! Big difference. I'm having Battlestar flashbacks...
Don't worry, Burn Notice and Psych are back in January.

ETA: And I just saw that USA is moving their remaining Friday shows and moving them to other days of the week. It'll now be White Collar on Tuesday's, Psych on Wednesdays, and Burn Notice on Thursdays.

That's an interesting move. But I think its kind of smart, especially since nothing good comes on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights anyway.
