NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.

"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage," Bardwell said. "I think those children suffer and I won't help put them through it."

If he did an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said.

"I try to treat everyone equally," he said.
No, no, "WTF" no...

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!

Welcome to 1955. Come on in, we're having a sock hop.

Well he does let black people use his bathroom, so he's got that going for him.

Yeah, but they have to wash up in the "coloreds only" sink.

I'm white, and I hate white people. Does that make me racist or just on par with the rest of the world?

No doubt. Any time I hear that in public I just have to get the hell out of there because I know I'll have an aneurysm if I hear the rest.

I'm assuming he's not only racist, but that his IQ must be staggeringly low if he doesn't understand the irony in that statement, given the subject matter.

Sadly, the reporter forgot to keep his following sentence of " 'less they's one of them octoroon babies."

A guy in Louisiana, Cajun capital of the world, is against mixing races. Mind: Blown.
Since you have a black president racism obviously stopped existing in the US. So there must be something else going on.

Technically, a mixed race president. Yup, people couldn't possibly accept someone of mixed race. The irony abounds.

So this guy is refusing to execute state law? Fire his ass.

Maybe it's not ironic at all. Maybe that's exactly what he's thinking. "In the sixties blacks and whites start fornicating freely and already one of their children is president. God knows what they might do if we let them multiply even more!"

Yeah, this is the big thing. People are allowed to have fucked up beliefs in this country. But if you are a civil servant, you work for the people. He should lose his job.

My thoughts exactly - it's just like those pharmacists who refuse to dispense birth control because of their religion. Can't do your job thanks to your ideology? Time to find another fucking job, bro.

Thanks for posting this already, guys. That's why I love Chud. You people are on top of stuff like this.

I saw this story on HuffPo this morning and it just about made my head asplode. I won't comment on the part of the country this racist old jerk is from, everyeone reading this most likely already knows my feeling on that issue anyway.

The money quote?

So... treating all interacial couples as less valid or less entitled to a marriage liscense than a white couple is treating everyone equally?

WTF?

What about God's law, you pinkos? What about God's law?

God is punishing us with SOCIALISM for not being faithful enough.

First, fuck this guy. Fuck him hard. Asshole. Second, his reasoning is flawed. Concern for the kids of the couple? Do you know how ADORABLE a mixed-race baby is?! So freaking adorable! He'll be fine in life, I promise.

Well, since God hasn't bothered to chime in on anything for over 2000 years..........

I'm almost positive the godless heathens of the ACLU are already working on that.

Great, now I'm reminded of the grandma's "Look at the little pickaninny!" line in Flannery O'Connor's 'A Good Man Is Hard To Find'.

Not to mention that genetic diversity should be encouraged as it mostly produces better descendants.

This is why my wife and I* were nervous about driving from Austin to Florida when we went on our honeymoon back in 1999. We had to pass through Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. Why does it not surprise me that things like this still happen a decade later?

*I'm white, she's chinese.

I cannot belive he still has his job.

Aww, don't be so hard on yourself. At least you have the good grace and intelligence to be embarrassed - that's no reflection on you just because you're from the same state.
I went to Louisiana for a wedding recently. I can give the state no greater condemnation than to say I was glad to be back in Alabama once it was over.
That sentiment needs to go on the AL license plates:

"Alabama - At least you don't live in Louisiana"

Absolutely. His ass should be out on the curb if he thinks he can impart his own racism into his job and get away with it.

I guess the silver lining is that the new face of racism - subtle and insidious - that was so prevalent in contemporary America is getting blown to pieces with the election of a black President. Racists just can't seem to keep their hatred under wraps anymore. And people are saying Barack hasn't accomplished anything...

As for the justice of the peace...someone should really tell him that the "I have black friends" cop out stopped working, oh, about 20 years ago.

Friends? He's close to saying "I'm not racist clearly. Some of my best shoe-shiners are black."

He's also saying "I love black folks, they just can't fuck my daughter."

Apparently they can fuck her all they want. They just can't get her pregnant.

"Perhaps he's worried the kids will grow up and be president," said Bill Quigley, director of the Center for Constitutional Rights and Justice, referring to President Barack Obama, the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas.

Obama's deputy press secretary Bill Burton echoed those sentiments.

"I've found that actually the children of biracial couples can do pretty good," Burton told reporters aboard Air Force One as it flew to Texas.
Zing!

And look what happened to her. Following this thread, this judge sounds like he might be a good guy, if he had someone to shoot him everyday of his life.

Too bad they gave him the opportunity to resign on his own steam. Asshole like that should have been fired immediately and had his ass handed to him on the way out the door.
Oh, I agree, but I'll take "being shamed out of the public eye", considering how much of this stuff gets overlooked in the South.
True, Jake, at least he's gone.
