The Jeff Dunham Show on Comedy Central

My Dear god.

I never knew this was coming.

While I'm all for more puppet shows on TV... this I'm not so sure about.

At least Comedy Central knows how to bank of the success of others.

I finally caught some of this guy's act on some Comedy Central special. I was stunned to watch the waves and waves of laughter coming from the audience while I sat there grimacing at just how unfunny his whole act was. He's also a pretty shitty ventrioquist.

This dude is worse than that woman who's addicted to abortion.

Kind of makes you wish Mr Dunham's mother had been addicted to abortion.

As for the show, I saw a promo the other night. Whoever said he is a terrible ventriloquist is right. It's almost not even ventriloquism. It's just talking in a funny voice while holding a muppet on your hand.

The promo ad for this featuring the black "pimp" puppet is one of the most terrifying fucking things on television right now.

I remember being amused by this guy when I was 11 or 12 (early 90s). I was shocked when I heard that not only does he still do the exact same act but that it has become successful and appreciated by pretty much every student I've encountered since I've gone back to college. I weep for the children.

This, right here. I remember seeing this guy during the big comedy craze of the late 80s/early 90s. Then the comedy boom ended, and he mercifully faded away. Then a couple years ago, people started to pay attention to him again (while still trotting out the same jokes that were tired 20 years ago), and now this. I'm so disappointed. So very disappointed.

Seconded.

My parents and some friends eat this shit up, and it's all I can do to not question their tastes in humor.

I don't tend to be one easily offended, but his act seems to be perpetuating racial stereotypes in the worst way. (I'm assuming here, I've never seen his act. Only his weak attempts at humor in his promos.) I couldn't believe the recent promos with the pimp doll. It makes me sad that we aren't past this kind of thing in our society. Giving this jack-off his own show is a worse offense than giving Dane Cook a Comedy Central special every other month.

I had the bad fortune to see the guys live act last weekend (don't ask) and as bad as the "humor" is I found myself with a begrudging respect for the guy as a huckster:

dozens of families were there with their children, probably expecting the same watered down crap that they watch on CC. Well, they got that with a good dose of cursing and juvenile "adult" humor. Oh the horror!

The guy had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand and the whole act was faux-improv. I could tell that the stuff he was supposedly "winging" was rehearsed but he was getting the crowd involved. Impressed, but sad that the general public lacks the same perception.

How do I get sucked into seeing both this guy and Glenn Beck's live shows?

Toledo sucks.

So if Frank Caliendo gets his own show, will the combo officially be a sign of comedy apocalypse? I think Carlos Mencia was phase one.
Frank had a show, not on Com. Central though

Oh god, it's started.

I recall a time when Comedy Central had a puppet show that i could be proud of. One that featured the likes of Tom Servo and Crow T Robot. How far we've fallen...

Hell, I'll even take the relatively Noel Coward-esque antics of Crank Yankers over Dunham any day.

2012 the year of destruction, began with a man and a puppet. The ancient tablets read.

Every time I think that I've lost the ability to really, strongly declare "What the fuck is wrong with people?", something like this happens.

So, what the fuck is wrong with people?!

You mean the same people that brought Larry the Cable Guy into public consciousness?

Those people?

As a guy who's dabbled in both ventriloquism and stand up comedy, I respect Jeff Dunham for getting up there. Both of those things are hard by themselves, but together they've gotta be pretty freaking impossible to do well.

That being said, Jeff Dunham is as funny as someone setting your balls on fire. He goes for the easy joke every time, and not that puppet humor should be thought provoking or anything, but really? A dead terrorist? A crotchety old man? A Jalapeno on a stick? Really? These characters are balls.

I can't believe this guy made 38 million dollars in ticket sales alone last year. Ridiculous.

The idea that this guy is still pretty much going to be showing up and performing shows at ARENAS (even if they ARE in Toad Suck, Arkansas or Fistlicker, South Dakota) really disturbs me.
I know, right? The 4 seat arena in Twiddle My Ballsack Kansas is THE destination for any respectable comedian. I hear the corpse of Milton Berle is going to be playing a double bill there along with Judy Tenuta next week.

On the other hand, at least they all had the decency to boo Carlos Mencia.

Unfortunately, they booed him because "we don't like them beaner jokes".

Hopefully all the stupid puppet replicas clogging the shelves at my local Hastings will go as well.

I saw Larry the Cable doing a bit of stand up on a show the other day. He was telling his old tired shit, and bombing big time. No one was laughing, and he really choked.

Hooray!

Canceled, and not a minute too soon. It could have been broadcast in two separate calendar years, but instead thankfully this travesty will be confined to the year 2009.
