Marx Bros. releases?

A buddy of mine is a huge Marx Brothers fan (I like them but he loves them) and I've been helping him look for info about other regions and their releases of Marx Brothers films. Specifically the quality of the films.

Universal released the early films and the quality is absolutely awful, but I've noticed a few mentions of better quality from the R2 releases and have found absolutely no details on the R4 releases.

So does anyone have some first hand info on these two releases? What's the quality like for the R2 and/or R4 releases? (Animal Crackers in particular).

The R2 copies I have look reasonably beat-up; not enough to hurt the movies, and the audio's fine, but compared to, say, the Warner Bros restorations of gangster flicks from the same time, it's pretty clear there hasn't been as much of an effort made.
