Movies that could and should be made into Video Games.

There may very well be a thread on this already. I apologize if its the case.

Bored this past weekend and channel surfing I stumbled on some movies that I figure would make some good/great video games. I realize that every big summer movie that is released nowadays is a turned into a usually terrible video game, so these would all be films from the past. Among them:

Escape From New York

The Rock

The Untouchables

Con-Air

Broken Arrow

Road to Perdition (its a stretch)

Commando

Kiss of the Dragon

Some more I'm sure that I didn't of.

The most obvious answer, of course, is CRANK. Not the best or the most deserving - just the most obvious.
JG Butler, I concur with...Crank. Obviously next years...run n gun dynamic duo...The Expendables and The A-Team should get videogame adaptions. Ideally...The Expendables would be a light gun shooter.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... the Mad Max films as an open-world game. Primarily The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome.

The main issues would be figuring out how to make an empty wasteland interesting(considering it is an EMPTY WASTELAND and everything), and getting a developer who knows these types of games.

Sorry but haven't we basically had that game already?

-Im amazed no one has made a "The Rock" mode for CounterStrike...have the game divided between a team of renegade marines and a team of special ops, one has to protect tthe FEV missiles in the map while the other has to disable them, and make special units for each team (say, mason is able to open new pathways, only Godspeed can disable the missiles, Hummel can see enemies on the whole map, Tony Todd has a one hit knife attack and so on).

-"I am Legend" could had been a great survival horror game with a heavy emphasis on the survival part.
-Kill Bill could have been a better "Wet"; missions as the whole cast and set in The Bride's past would had been great.

Yep, we have...

Also, a "kiss kiss bang bang" adventure game where you switch between harry and gay perry between chapters would be solid gold...think about it.

Also...

Ryoken, what's that screenshot from? I remember seeing it, just can't place the game. *edit-referring to the guy and the dog, but those other shots are pretty great.

I wouldn't say Fallout 3 qualifies, I'm thinking something more like GTA-style than Oblivion-style, with a more of a focus on vehicles.

Its Fallout 3...it was the ending of the second trailer...if you squint, you can see the guy is wearing the armored vault uniform; Bethesda made that shot as the end of that trailer as pretty obvious Road Warrior nod.

Aha! Thanks, I'm an idiot.

Must have been from the Fallout 3 thread where i saw it.

Someone probably has out there. Team Fortress Classic for Half Life 1 has a Rock level.

Film nostalgia can lead to some less than steller games being made, most notably Scarface and The Godfather games.

I am looking forward to the new Aliens game, however.

I would like to see a game based on the culinary comedy NO RESERVATIONS, in which the player must make burgers (putting the meat and lettuce on in the correct order, etc).
Robot Jox.

Speed Racer needs to be on PS3.

Master of the Flying Guillotine.

Slither. (I don't know what sort of game this would be... but it seems like it would be awesome)

Did you never experience the greatness that was Mad Max for the NES?*

I'd kill to see an old-school 3rd person adventure game based on L.A. Confidential

(asterisk denotes sarcasm - the game is terrible)

Face/Off: Really should have had a game by now as all the slow motion games and duel wielding games have stolen so much from John Woo. Stranglehold went some way to honoring Woo but was unfairly underappreciated in my opinion (though it had flaws).

This/Next Gen The Matrix game: I know we've already had three bites at the apple (Enter The Matrix and Path of Neo were fun but didnt live up to the license, never tried the MMO). A game this gen or next, could really do the films CGI justice and I'd love a Natal dodging bullets mini game. Imagine Assassin's Creed meets Mirror's Edge meets Mass Effect.

A Bruce Lee life story game: Imagine a game where you played as Bruce Lee throughout his entire life and all his movies with a fighting engine as complex as Ninja Gaiden, could be pretty mindblowing.

These are all pretty obvious so I'm gonna try and come up with some more interesting ones later on.

I don't know what the status of L.A. Noire is, but that might come close to fitting the bill.
There has been at least one Starship Troopers game, but I think the tech is finally there(or almost there), to deliver a really awesome one. Maybe next gen.
Shogun Assassin (or any of the Lone Wolf and Cub stories). It'd be very similar to Yoshi's Island. You'd have to keep hold of the wooden pram (or Cub) while overcoming obstacles/ fighting warriors. It would have to be similar to Tomb Raider also, with puzzle solving/ platforming/ fighting rolled into one beautifully landscaped environment. I guess it would also be very similar to Ico.

Definately Short Cuts, or Gothika.
The correct answer is Pootie Tang.

Though it probably would be called a Resident Evil rip-off a 28 Days Later movie could be very cool.
I was thinking Undercover Brother would have been way better than the Quantum of Solace game...
This would make an epic Total War-style sim or RTS (or fascinating mashup of the two)...

Being John Malkovich
Magnolia
Bambi
Psycho
2001
A.I.
The Naked Gun
When Harry Met Sally
Annie Hall
Casablanca
Mulholland Drive
The White Buffalo
Touch of Evil
Sophie's Choice
American Psycho

Already done, with the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, which has seen several games on almost every platform imaginable, and which the Dynasty Warriors games are spin-offs of.

Also, there's a Mad Max game supposedly in the making with Cory Barlog at the helm and George Miller being involved in the creation.

*edit- what the hell that was weird. Sorry.

A "Dr Who" adventure game would have so much potential...

It was okay, but the best part was the church gunfight where you could pull off some real gunkata shit. Stand in the middle of the room and just pump bullets in all directions at once.

I've been following this through development hell - I'm intrigued by it, but from the sparse info I've gathered, it seems more like a 1940s version of GTA (with "investigative elements") than a point & click adventure game. Come to think of it, Seven has the potential to be a solid adventure game too.

'Highlander'. I can't believe that a video game hasn't been made of this property. Create an RPG that follows your guy from the 1600s to modern times, culminating in a final confrontation with a Clancy Brown-voiced Kurgan.

I'd play the hell out of this game.

They're apparently making a Highlander game. It looks shitty.

From the news article on the site......

In the new game, players assume the role of Owen MacLeod, who may--or may not be--a relative of film hero Conor MacLeod and TV hero Duncan MacLeod. Like his celluloid and video counterparts, MacLeod begins as an everyday man--this time in Roman-occupied Gaul--who discovers he's immortal when he's briefly killed. After he rises again, the game follows him through various eras as he squares off against other sword-wielding immortals who kill each other the only way they can: beheading.

Highlander will also see MacLeod squaring off against a new nemesis, not the Kurgan from the original film. He'll also have a mentor immortal, Methos, who will train him to use his powers (collectively called the Quickening) just as Sean Connery's character first did. These powers will let MacLeod channel fire and electricity through his body, disarm opponents by letting them jam their weapons into him, and escape by jumping from a great height--and surviving. Combat in the game will focus on melee weapons, including such sword types as the claymore, katana, and twin gladius, and will have destructible environments.

Highlander is being developed by French Widescreen Games (Dead to Rights) and will use the Unreal 3 Engine. It is being written by David Abramowitz, the show runner for the Highlander TV series.

Roman-occupied Gaul. Hmmm...

Quote:
Gaul (Latin Gallia) is a historical name used in the context of the Roman Empire in references to the region of Western Europe approximating present day France and Belgium, but also sometimes including the Po Valley, western Switzerland, and the parts of the Netherlands and Germany on the west bank of the River Rhine.
So...not Scotland, then. It's not even the planet Zeist. Why call it fucking Highlander if he isn't fucking Scottish?

Is it THAT HARD to make this with Connor and the Kurgan? Really??????????????

How about a game based on one of the best movies of the 90s: HEAT

That bank heist scene could be absoulutely epic.
Yeah, another video game sequence of the scene that inspired a ton of video game sequences sounds cool.
Why base games on movies with such strict storylines? There's only so much you can do with a game based on HEAT, and I don't think most people really want a game that has one significant action sequence and then several hours of people talking and looking forlorn.
Why not The Dark Crystal or The Labyrinth? Those are some pretty rich and unique worlds to explore and expand upon.
Arena. As a straightforward, Street Fighter/Tekken style arcade beat 'em up rife with Lovecraftian pugilists, this would surely be great. However, a more ambitious single-player story mode (akin to EA Sports' "Be A Pro" mode in the FIFA series) allowing the development of one's fighting skills according to individual taste - as well as the potential distractions of fame, fortune, and attractive interstellar pop stars - would make this potentially something special.

The "Irish Wags Afoot" sequence in Grand Theft Auto IV satisfied any desire I may have had for a Heat game. I'll also support Kriegaffe's Robot Jox suggestion.

So, it's a faithful adaptation then?
To be honest, a bat-shit insane Highlander videogame set in the terrible 'Highlander 2: the Quickening' universe would probably be a blast to play, especially if they got Michael Ironside to voice Katana again.
There should be a NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN game, which consists of a single coin, which you call. Then it flips, and if you're wrong, your game system sends an electric charge out which kills you instantly.
