TV Death Watch 2009-2010

Where we can keep an eye on and bullshit on what may or may not be on the "death watch" this season.
Melrose Place will probably bite it. Dollhouse as well.

Smallville is toast. Friday nights = death. And as much I like that Chuck is getting a third season, I seriously doubt it lasts beyond that.

Now, the big question. When does Leno go? Ratings have been abysmal. What the fuck can NBC do?
I'm told by my sister, the world's number one Numbers fan, that the show's outlook is grim but I can't confirm this.

It'd be nice if this was the season that kills Heroes. The plummeting ratings make me hopeful.

This doesn't bode well for Dollhouse. Taken off air during sweeps and running doubles in December? Sounds like they don't have confidence that sweeps will make a difference and they want to get rid of it faster to me.

Ugly Betty is also DOA. Dumped on Friday nights where it "shockingly" tanked. A lot of the experts are saying Law & Order is probably done after this season. Just can't see that being the case. Then again, they do this for a profession and I don't (...yet...!)

Trauma should be gone soon too.

THIS is the big one. Can NBC really afford to let this thing fail, though?
Dollhouse and Chuck are almost dead. In both shows there are some relatively unknown figures I would love to see again (Ivonne, Amy Acker, November, Sierra, Victor (Enver Gjokaj and Summer Glau)).
What are they gonna do? Come up with five new 10pm shows? Leno will last the season at the minimum.

Heroes is stilling doing well in the younger demo (how...I will never understand) and it's still selling a lot of DVDs. I'm surprised more heads aren't rolling at NBC, but I think most of the shows doing awful right now outside of their new ones are Silverman projects. If I were NBC I'd be ordering lots of pilots stat.

Also, local news affiliates are getting killed because of Leno.

I agree, but Chuck didn't even air yet. Sure, it was precarious, but considering how Heroes' faring, how Leno's doing, and the lack of quality show on the network, I wouldn't call it dead yet.

Things won't get any better for NBC until Zucker is gone. Silverman was certainly responsible for some colossal turkeys, but it's not like they were in decent shape before he walked in.
I've read that if Comcast does buy a majority stake of NBC/Universal, Leno would be among the first things shown the door.
I'm gonna bet HANK and The Middle don't make it till the end of the season.

Fox was full-on retard to move Fringe to the Thursday 9 P.M. slot directly against Grey's Anatomy, CSI and The Office. Certainly explains its ratings nosedive. At the same time, I wonder if its just one of those shows people are genuinely interested in only for the first year or two and then move on. I see that happening to Glee too.
Yeah, Glee will be lucky to get 2 seasons. Fringe will have one more at best.

I dunno. The whole High School Musical/American Idol fad has lasted way longer than I thought, and Glee taps right into that demo.

I don't think Flash Forward will get past this season. It's a very hollow show, and once all its cards are played (April 29!), its ratings might plummet, Laura Palmer-style.
Once Glee gets the cushy post-Idol spot in January, its ratings should go way up.

And EW is reporting that Dollhouse will not air in November during sweeps. It will return in December with double episodes on Friday night. Terrible sign.

Fringe must be one of the few shows planned or at least with some structure which allows some further direction. With Dollhouse the first 6 episodes gave us the impression it will be "guess whore of the week".

Exactly. Trying to plug 5 extra prime time hours each week? There's no way. They could possibly cut Leno down to 3 nights a week though and probably have a couple of things they could throw on the air and give a chance.

Lopez Tonight. I'm aware it hasn't premiered.

That and returning shows that were forced to take reduced orders this season (like Chuck and Law & Order) would get additional episodes produced to fill in slots.

I dunno, I would have thought the two Tyler Perry shows and the Bill Engvall show would have been canned by now. But TBS seems to have found a way to keep them on. I don't see Lopez tonight being any different.

Apparently, the Melrose Place reboot is getting rebooteded according to Ausiello.

Adding Johnny Chase to the cast should give it a slight bump.
I am surprised that Fox even gave Dollhouse 13 episodes considering how terrible the Ratings have been. Whedon hasn't got that much pull? Has he?
Is this the season where Law & Order takes the "longest running show ever" crown? If not, it's not going anywhere.

I don't like all this naysaying about Chuck before a single episode has even aired. All reports say the NBC brass have all really liked the episodes and scripts they've seen so far. I do think pretty much everything on currently on NBC that isn't L&O, Fat Fatties, or Thursday night will be nuked by the end of the year, though.
Terrible call moving Fringe against everything huge. I like that show, and if there's room for 20 odd overly similar procedurals on TV, we should at least get to keep the scifi one. They'll probably bump it to another time slot before they dump it, if only because of Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci.

I believe Simpsons takes the longest running crown this year, and they're in no danger of ending anytime soon.

Getting a "Friday Night Deathslot" vibe with Fringe.

The show's a bit of a hit and doesn't expect much from its viewers. There's no way it won't get at least one more season.
I hope not. The very nature of its story is best contained within a single season.

I tell you, if there happens to be another Flashforward when the six month date is up....

Community, Mercy and Parks & Recreation given full 22-episode orders as per Ausiello's Twitter.
YES! to Community. Chevy Chase is back!
Yay for Community. The other two...not so much. Especially Mercy, Trauma is so much better.

Excellent news. Community and P&R are both terrific.

Like Prison Break, the show is (or was) HUGE overseas.

Kind of glad to hear this. I'm not sure I loved the show - some of the performances were kind of awful, e.g. the cop (played by Shawn Hatosy) and his wife - but I was looking forward to giving Season 2 a chance.

Truth.

About fucking time they shit-can this turkey. NBC is going to have to seriously overhaul their lineup if they plan on climbing outta 4th place.

As of now, TNT is just showing the unaired episodes from NBC. No word on whether they'll be making new ones.

If NBC decides to renege on a second season of Leno, that automatically results in five hours of open-slots in addition to Trauma and (possibly) Heroes. Thus shows like Community and Parks & Recreation might be spared and get another season as well as Chuck and Mercy.
