Yeah, it's looking more and more like Leno won't make it to a second season. The show is still doing okay for Leno's demo, but has been consistently terrible in the 18-49 demographic and is starting to put the "drain" on the affiliates (as outlined in Nikki Finke's piece). You couple that with the fact that the show lacks any or all buzz/cultural cache and Leno's willingness to blame everyone but himself...well, it depends on how desperate NBC is at the end of the year.

(That Finke piece has an interview with Leno that is somewhat stunning in its arrogance and phoniness.)

But we'll at least get those unaired episodes.

But how much will NBC refusing to awknowledge they made a mistake in bringing Leno back and not wanting him to jump to ABC or FOX factor into them refusing to pull the plug. As low as Conan's rating have been, you gotta think NBC is still scared Leno would get another late night show and just kill it making it look like Conan was a mistake.

You can now. CBS has cut their episode order from 22 to 16. It's done.

Abrams is trying to put a good face on Fringe's ratings nosedive.

That interview should consist entirely of Abrams standing up and screaming "They put us on against Grey's Anatomy and CSI! What the fuck did they expect?"

Oh and we officially start writing the obituary for Leno.

Too bad. The show itself isn't great but the chemistry between Epps family is pretty good. It was good to have Judd Hirsch back on TV of only for a few years.

Comcast and GE are inching closer to a deal for NBC Universal to change hands.
It's just about Comcast acquiring NBC Universal. But if that happens, it's been rumored that they would put the news at 10PM, Leno at 11, and Conan after that.
Thank you.
So NBC would be on a FOX-type schedule? Wouldn't that make people look at them as being on a level with FOX and not ABC and CBS?
Is Fox really looked at any worse than CBS or ABC though?

Didn't hear that. Damn. I'm assuming wiser heads would put original scripted programing back at 10.

Compared to the Big 3, they're still the newcomer, despite how long they've been around. Besides, NBC was the first major broadcast network in the country. They got enough grief for giving the 10pm slot to Leno. For them to completely abandon it to local news would certainly diminish them in some eyes.
I think the CW took FOX's place. And while FOX is still the little brother to the big 3, I think the gap has closed quite a bit.

ABC cans Eastwick (although all the remaining episodes will air) and extends The Forgotten.

Say goodbye to 'Dollhouse' and 'Hank''.
Two more that are totally not surprises.
I hope that Victor guy can get another gig soon. He was the best thing about Dollhouse.
Was Eastwick doing that badly in the ratings? I read it wasn't doing that badly. I wonder if it following up two of the more breakout shows of the season made it suffer by comparison.

The only surprise about all three of those shows being shit-canned is that it wasn't done sooner.

Why won't NBC just cancel The Jay Leno Show? Why move it to 11?

They don't want to admit a mistake, and if it means screwing Conan (and to an extent Fallon) over in order to do it they will.

Plus Leno is on a 2 year deal and they don't want to pay his buy out for year 2. In addition to paying the price for 5 new hour long programs. Remember the whole Leno thing was touted as saving the network Millions.

And now it looks like if the merger goes through Zucker will stay in charge.

Wouldn't doing that also imply that Parenthood is fucked?

Production has stopped for Flashforward and its ratings have been sliding steadily. So my guess this will be on the chopping block.

What do you think are the chances for Fringe and V? I heard the latter is on shaky ground as well.
If fringe continues to bore to death and lose viewers, it will end this season.
Agreed. This season of Fringe seems to be treading water for some reason.

Seems like most of the Sci Fi shows this season (e.g Flashforward, V) seem to suffer from slow plot movement and filler episdes.

they're all taking a page from LOST and planning on having to stretch their narrative out for multiple seasons. LOST had the luxury of not thinking it was going to make it out of season one so it hit the ground running, it didn't start to get slow until season 2 (but thankfully picked up again)

I fully expect a Holocaust of genre shows by the time this season ends: Lost (obviously since it's ending), Flash Forward, Heroes, Smallville, Fringe, etc. Of course, Dollhouse is already dead.

Yeah, I think the mini-trend spawned by LOST and BSG is about over, so expect a shit-ton of Mentalist and Glee rip-offs next season.

Not to mention, Heroes and V will probably be dead too.
Smallville's actually doing quite well.

Fringe is borderline - its ratings are poor, but they're better than what FOX normally gets in that timeslot. Any further dips would be trouble, though.

V's ratings have been very good, but how it does after its long hiatus will determine its fate.

Right now, all 3 would likely be renewed. So would Heroes (sadly). I'd bet that 3 of the 4 end up surviving.
Smallville? a Tenth season? C'mon.

Which itself is a rip-off of Psych.

Clearly the network execs need to hear my pitch for a fusion of workplace drama and superhero story. A bunch of government employed superheroes bitch about wages, get into unsatisfying sexual relationships, and accidentally cause large amounts of property damage! How is this not already a show?

It is already. It's called C-SPAN! Wocka, wocka!

The ratings are there. Creatively, the show is having its best season, meaning that I'm no longer embarrassed to be watching! They've dumped most of the dead weight (the old showrunners, Lana, etc) and have moved the story to Metropolis/Superman in all but name.

Internet perception and reality are often incongruous. For all the criticism of V (much of it deserved), its ratings are well above renewal level so far. We'll see how the next 9 eps do, but it's really premature and inaccurate to think it's in trouble. With Smallville, it's not only not in trouble, but is virtually guaranteed to be back next year unless extenuating circumstances ($$$) make it impossible.
I agree. Seasons 8 and 9 have shown a way marked improvment of quality. It's also the closest we'll ever get to seeing a live action Justice League film.

Apparently they are even introducing Doctor Fate and Alan Scott Green Lantern in a upcoming 2 hour special.

Smallville got dumped on Friday nights literally by itself and its now down to 2 million viewers. This is a show that once peaked at 7-8 million and its now one of the lowest rated shows on the network. Using the "Well, it's doing great...for Fridays" excuse doesn't cut it. Plus it doesn't fit with the CW's "Lifetime for Tweens" programming policy.

Which really brings to question why the network wants another season of Supernatural.

Yeah, it really does. It's bringing in some of the CW's highest ratings relative to the other networks. Doing that on any night would be impossible to ignore, but doing it on fridays is a huge deal. CW likely did send the show to fridays to die... but it didn't die, it turned out to be one of the few (only?) successes they've had this year.
