My 55 year old Mom... LARPs?

So, when I last spoke to my Mom, she told me that her, my step-dad (65) and their friends are getting together for a Murder Mystery party, where they all play different characters, dress up, and have an excuse to drink too much wine.

I remember doing one of these in High School with my sister's friends. I was a Scottish Lord and the body was floating in the pool (on an inflatable raft). But my Mom? This type of activity is really LARPing for the Agatha Christie/Clue set, isn't it?

My wife's Dad is a Civil War nut and would take his family camping near Gettysburgh and watch battle re-enactments. Civil War re-enacting is LARPing for the history nerds? Historical Cosplay.

Medieval Times? People pay good money to eat a Cornish hen with their hands and watch people LARP.

Am I offbase here?

I think its freaking great your mother is taking on such an original activity.
Its an excuse to dress up in funny clothes, pretend you're someone else and drink yourself silly...what's not to love?
LARPing is pretty much a costume party where the guest are really into character, and thats it. (same could be said about flash mobs or zombie walks)
Also, would you rather see your Mom join a book club and discuss the latest Dan Brown book?

Yeah, that's not my Mom. She parties every weekend (my Step-Dad plays in a band) and travels.

I'm just amused at the potential list the blanket term "LARPing" can cover.
