Animators, I Need Some Help

Thread Starter
I need some advice on logistics and quality.

My old business partner and I are thinking of doing a 22 minute pilot episode to try to get something (anything) rolling in Calgary. Essentially, it would help him get some more sound buisness from a different revenue stream and it might help me get my name out there as someone who writes for animation. At the very least it would be nice to have something I've written to show off to friends and family.

We've been tossing around the idea of doing it Flash but I've never really liked the way it looks. The background and the foreground never appear to be work together. Is this a problem with Flash itself? Or is it an issue with the animator?

Would we better off doing a traditional style of animation? Maybe in 18fps?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Honestly Flash will be the much more affordable choice.
Flash can seem rather tricky, but with practice you can get Classical animation quality with it.

It all depends what style you're going for I guess.
If you want the regular drawn out style it will take a bit of practice translating the classical principals over to Flash, but they're essentially the same.. it's just using a different tool.

If you're looking for something more like the eSurance commercial style of animation then you'll have characters made up of groups of all their different moving parts all together in a comp.

But yeah, it can totally work in Flash, and for cheaper.

It's not the program.

A lot of people tend to get caught up in the novelty of Flash doing your tweens for you, which tends to look cheap. Just treat it like a super-versatile lightbox instead of a time saver and draw most of the tweens yourself.
