How not to make friends at work...

As a result of an off-hand comment by a co-worker looking to find old instruction manuals for Lego sets, I let them in on a site I go to quite often, and promised to mail out the link. My OCD kicked in an and I gathered up a bunch of the sites I've been to or regularly go to that are Lego related, and I wrote them and a few other bodies who looked interested at the meeting this e-mail:

If you are slightly nerdy, and/or have kids, AND are elitist:

http://www.brickwiki.org/wiki/Purist (definition - also, yes, there is a wiki site for Lego)
http://lego.sparre-andersen.dk/ (actual purist plans)
http://www.flickr.com/groups/legopurist/ (photos of purist projects)

-These websites are maintained by those known as Lego purists, who are individuals that believe in using only the core/basic Lego blocks to construct everything rather than the increasingly prevalent specialty pieces that can only be used to represent a single or limited number of things

If you are VERY nerdy:

http://www.brikwars.com/

-This is a completely free set of rules for doing tabletop miniature warfare using Lego people and making vehicles and weapons out of Lego

http://web.telia.com/~u16122508/proglego.htm

-This is an autoCAD-type program for making your own Lego plans

http://www.io.com/~sj/PirateGame.html

-Another free set of game rules that isn’t limited to just Legos, but a lot of people who play that game make their stuff out of Lego – it’s a Pirate ship battle game that has rules for forts and town raids that you play using the floor at your home as the ocean

If you are sacrilegious:

http://www.thebricktestament.com/

-Stories from the bible, as illustrated using Lego

Please forward this along to whomever may be interested.
The next day at coffee, nothing but awkward glances and polite small talk. I might have gone too far with including the Brick Testament link I think. But more than likely it's because they asked for just one thing and I inundated them with 50 million. I cannot help it, it's how I am wired. The sad part is that there are some people here that would think all of those links were neat. I guess it's not really the sad part, as their reaction doesn't bother me. I just thought it was sort of funny so I am sharing it here. I find that lots of the unionized workers at the college have exactly zero imagination or even curiosity. The job just doesn't cultivate those qualities for them I guess :P

I just sent a company-wide email complaining about the ridiculous price of the new Michael Jackson doll:

Eh, all that ever gets traded in gift exchanges here is booze. I learned that the hard way when I bought the Collector's Edition of Scarface for secret santa in my department and EVERYONE ELSE bought booze. I think my gift recipient was less than enthused, despite claiming they "were really into movies" Suggesting Zombie Michael Jackson would probably get me suspended or some shit.

There are many people who make use of the MechWarrior Mega Blocks line of figs and build scenery/buildings/terrain to scale for that line. There are even custom rules for giant robots floating about if you like that kind of thing...

I tend to overshare. Usually though the conversation ends up with someone being grossed out.
