24 Season 8

The promo for the new season "officially" ran yesterday during the World Series. Here's a link with it:

Hope Aceveda sticks around a while.
Aceveda won't last more than the first episode judging from that trailer.

He could die in hour 1 and come back by hour 12. It's how they do.
Can we hope Kim dies in hour 1 too ?
Was that Jack . . . smiling?
I'd be shocked if Aceveda makes it beyond the first 2 hours!!

At the end of every season i keep telling myself I'm done with this show. They just keep recycling the same material with different faces and national identities. But like a car crash on the freeway I can't help but watch.
Seriously though, how many seasons does Kiefer even want to do this show. I have heard this may be the last year, they gotta end it at some point.
History, you gotta admit that last season totally made up for the previous 2.

I hope Aceveda sticks around for at least a third of the day.
The previous 2? Season 5? One of the best good sir.
Whoops, think I spread 6 and that redemption crap into two seasons when one was part of the other.

I thought it was pretty firmly set that this was the last year, wasn't it?

I'll agree that last season was one of the better ones in recent memory. But to be honest, 24 is one of those shows that I can't recall things past the previous year. I mean I couldn't tell you what the hell happened 2,3,or certainly 4 seasons ago. The seasons are so self-contained, so much crap transpires over the course of the season its nearly impossible for me to look that far into 24's past.

Oh, and I doubt Aceveda will be around that long. Wasn't another Shield alumn on last season? I believe it was Pezuela(sp) who was on an ep. near the end of last season.

A few years back when the show got a multi-year renewel it was through the 8th season. At that point all the talk was that that would be it. But now a few years later I haven't heard anything to indicate that this is the last year. If it was the "Last Day!" hype would already be in overdrive.

Looks like we up in Canada can't be trusted to watch that promotional video. Who knows what we'd do with it?

EDIT: Or I could just go to the source: http://www.fox.com/fod/play.php?sh=twentyfour

Who wants to be a millenaire!

FURTHER EDIT: And then I watch it again and at 0:14 I think I see Chase trapped under a car! I'm all excited so I go back and pause and ... it's Freddie Prinze Jr.

I'd forgotten he's on it this year. Son of a bitch.

No No No!
Show should move forward, i hate it when it pulls this kind of crap.

What about the slimy - but ultimately good - guy from season 6 ? The White house aide.

One of the few high points in that season. I've forgotten his name but he was the creepy artist who is in league with the evil guy in the painting in Ghostbusters 2.
Peter McNichol. I think.
You're thinking of Peter MacNicol. He was good, and I believe that he made a cameo in Season 7.
Why bring back one of the less interesting villains in the history of TV? You might as well bring back papa Bauer while being at it.

MacNicol wasn't really a bad guy though. Last time I recall seeing him was during the Redemption movie where he was still part of President Boothe's administration. Assume he got booted after President Lady brought her people in.
Yeah, I really have no problem bring MacNicol back. He actually was one of the more interesting (and better written) characters on the show.

If you compare the slimy greatness that is Charles Logan to the spirit-crushing blandness of Papa Bauer again, I might have to put a "don't fight it" choke hold on you.
I still insist that Logan died in Season 6, but then Tony was "dead", too. Forget it, it's 24.

Is Rack Bauer coming back? I kind of liked Renee.
Renee is coming back. Thank god.

Logan is slightly more interesting, but the Bauer family had a little retarded something that made the whole craziness of it kinda cute, all the while leading the charge to the worse season (6th) of the show.

And yeah, praise Viggo, MacNicols was great on the show. So was Rack Bauer.
Another hand up in support of Rack Bauer here, she nearly made me forgive the show runners for the retarded Tony return (just didn't buy it and they shouldn't have killed him in the first place).
24 used to be my favourite show (in fact it got me to actively support and follow a serialized show again after I just got bored if TV in the late 90s) but even I as a 24 super fan is tired of the "Jack Bauer is retired" bullcrap. Can't they just start a series with him working for the government again? He's proved how valuable he is time and time again.
Not to pleased with the return of Logan, thought his villianous turn was a high point of the show but he was boring when he last returned.
Am super excited to have Katee Sackhoff on the show but pissed she's gonna be a desk jockey and that we have Freddie Prince Jr. as head of Field Ops (kinda still want a return of Chase!).
Sorry for my long rant, kind of having a bad day so this is a kind of release for me :/
post #28 of 760
I don't know of anyone who disliked Renee in the last season. Hopefully they'll address what she did with Will Patton in last season's finale.
I look forward to at least 3 instances of Jack going rogue. And top that off with at least 2 story derailments involving minor characters (I hope for something that will dethrone the "Mountain Lion incident").
Wow, and I can't believe I'm in the minority in hating Renee, I mean she was just completely unconvincing as an action star, and very annoying, especially with the whole wrestling with my conscience debacle.

I wonder if Jack went through his conversion to Islam as was sorta hinted at in the last ep of season 7?

Just finished six and seven back to back. S7 was a nice change of pace. Crazy shit as ever going on and all of the damn twists are getting out of hand.

Bumped in case anyone wants to chat about tonight's premier.

Axe kill! That is all.

I knew the Arab Jason Schwartzman was not to be trusted!

That was great, and the header that the other guy took down the stairs was simply awesome.

Once again, a good start.
They need to end this season with Jack saving his little granddaughter by fighting a bear.
Jack Bauer's trying to go straight but his friends and family are reinforcing his prior behavior. They're enablers. There is no credible reason to start hacking and breaking into armories yet. That was messed up.

Mykelti Williamson would be a great, efficient and menacing boss, but of course, he has to blindly believe the opposite of whatever Chloe/Jack does. And everyone else in CTU is as always pretty, but in HD, they look they're having a bad day and we're way too close.

I honestly hope that we're done with the Bauer Family for this season.

I'm aware I am still watching this show, but it seems like most 24 fans have some powers of perception that I simply don't possess. I cannot for the life of me figure out how you guys differentiate between good, bad or average seasons/storylines/episodes. The show is the same thing every fucking time.

What if he were fighting a bear for the granddaughter and a mountain lion for Kim? And he could only save one?
He would draw the mountain lion and the bear to either side of him, then leap away and have them attack each other. Duh.
Anyway, not the best first two hours they've had, but a solid enough start. Liked seeing Chloe's mad server skillz so outdated, liked NY's super-slick (underground?) CTU, and I'm hoping the two presidents each get to give some good perform this year. Too bad they already got into the unrelated CTU personal crises, with Starbuck's secret past.
It still shocks me how bad of an actor Freddie Prinze Jr. is; its really painful to watch any scene that has him as the main focus.

Axe-to-the-chest aside, lousy opener. Just when I though it couldn't get any duller they introduce Katee Sackhoff's white trash past into the mix. Then we get a cliffhanger involving 3 new characters who mean nothing to the audience. Pretty crappy Russian accent from Loony Bin Jim.

Be back in front of the tube tomorrow though!
Damn good opener. Actually dug Prinze Jr. You know the Sackhoff thing isn't going to be some small nonsense, it's just misdirection.
