Sanctimoniousness is Damaging

OK, that was probably the weirdest thread title in a while...

Anyway, the gist of this is that people who do things to feel moral, or spend all their time advancing their viewpoint, are less likely to actually go out and do anything useful. So basically arguing about shit on the internet is hurting society. D'oh.

Nuh-uh!

I enjoy arguing on the internet. It's the only place in my life where I'm exposed to people with wildly divergent opinions.

And I do a lot - *a lot* - of useful stuff.

Nonsense.

Do you know who didn't want people to argue on the internet? Hitler.

The people who feel more predisposed to actually doing stuff will read our discussions and be inspired to take action. So we're doing our part.

I don't think I agree that arguing on the 'net is always a bad thing. On this forum alone, we've had some interesting discussions with viewpoints added by some of the members from Europe and other parts of the world. That's a perspective one might not get IRL, if one isn't lucky enough to have foreign-born acquaintances on hand or to go to another country/continent and strike up a debate with strangers. A little horizon broadening never hurt anyone, right?

This. The people on this board are truly some of the smartest and well-read I've ever seen. Titty jokes aside, there's nothing bad about arguing (or heated debating, if you like) and maybe being exposed to a new point of view. The worst thing that can happen is you learn something.

What, what is it? That we've learned that coyotes have a taste for young Canadian folk singers? Or that we had fun doing it? See, it's a win-win.

And are you related to her? Or would you have brought that up in the actual thread?
