I haven't read any of the issues, but I read an interview with the writer (Remender) last week that indicated the crazy-ass direction they're going with it. Kinda curious about it, to be honest. They're gonna bring in the Marvel equivalent of the Universal Monsters to hang out with him for a couple of issues, I guess.

I'll give it a look in the store.

Apparently, Castle gets gutted by Daken. Someone rebuilds him and Rick Remender collects a check for this turd sandwich.

I wasn't really against Remender at first. I liked his stuff with the Scourge undead villains. But, this is just dumb. Well, dumber than usual.

It was for a long time, and it was also the only MAX book confirmed as being canon (well, and Alias), but then Brubaker had Castle show up in Daredevil after a lot of years of having him be exclusive to his MAX book and since then they've started shoving him back into the normal MU (noticeably during Civil War).

Now he has around three books (the MAX one, and two where he interacts more with the MU), and now this piece of shit.

Awful, really.

It's part of the Marvel U Punisher book that Remender is doing. Supposed to just be a storyarc.

Just a few issues, although I wonder how they will return Castle to normal. I mean he was pretty cut up.

It sounds like a really stupid idea, but maybe this writer can surprise me.

the frankenberry look or the fact that he was killed by Wolverine's whiny mohawk son w/ lame tribal tats.

Read this shit. It's fucking good. Punisher is the only comic I look forward to anymore. Remender is doing a pretty good job balancing the MAX Punisher and MU Punisher. He's got a good thing going. The art in the series is pretty sweet too, it's very reminiscent of Lenil Yu.

Are you talking about Tan Eng Huat? I think his art is pretty horrible, but he's gone now (I hope). The guy who drew the first five issues was good, though.

Jerome Opena and Tan Eng Huat's styles are pretty similar, but I think Huat's stuff is the one that really gives me the Lenil Yu vibe.

I give Remender credit for coming up something that the CHECK OUT MY SKULL TATTOO BRAH PUNISHER IS THE MOST HARDCORE CHARACTER EVER fans are guaranteed to hate.

The sad thing is that Franken Castle would most likely have been my favourite superhero EVER! 17 years ago, actually that's a lie, he'd be my second after Cable.

It is nice to see a resurgence of the Marvel Monsters but the only guys that seem to be able to write those characters with any respect are the Marvel Adventures gang (including Peter David).

Well issue 13 kind of won me over. Frank teams up with the Legion of Monsters to kill a bunch of wacko monster hunters in creative ways. At the end, GIGANTO shows up while Punisher is fast-ball specialing Man-thing at a helicopter.

I like the SMUG look from Frank in the last panel. Getting hacked into chunks of meat has made him appreciate the finer things in life!

For a load of people who love to complain about how overly serious mainstream comics are, you sure can't seem to handle when things go the other way.

This looks really silly, but at least it knows how ridiculous it is and is having fun with it. That art is fantastic, too. What more can you ask for?
