TV Recommendations

Thread Starter
My TV finally died after a lingering illness, so I am on the hunt for a new one. I am looking for one in the 42" - 50" range. Price needs to be around a grand or lower (lower would be better).

This will be my main TV and it is in a big room with a lot of natural light. If you can help me find one to fit this scenario, it would be appreciated. I am a bit behind in my research on this and I would much rather have your recommendations anyway. Please help as I am tired of watching my awesome 20" TV. Thanks!

In a room with lots of natural light, I'd get a Samsung or Sony LCD. Check Avsforum.com for more exhaustive research/opinions.

On the other hand, if you can control that natural light, you can probably get a decent larger plasma for around a grand. If your main use will be TV and movies rather than games, I'd look at plasma first. For your budget, look at Panasonic first, then Samsung.

Help.

I'm ready to take the HD plunge (we still don't have HD tv here, so it would just be for movies...) helped by a store offering 50 payments no interest in any tv.

So, what should i get?
I don't know if i should get a 32 inch 720p or go for a 40 inch 1080p set.
http://www.garbarino.com/productos/p...p?codigo=55224 Thats the 40 inch

http://www.garbarino.com/productos/p...p?codigo=47687 That's the 32 inch.

www.garbarino.com is the store btw if someone wants to check other tv's available that would be better.

My room isn't big, i'd be between 4 and 6 feet away from the TV.

Thanks in advance!

We carry the Samsung 540 model and I love it. The 37" 530 model we carried was nice too. You can't go wrong with that.

And ideally you'd want to be close to double the size of your TV away from it. So if you get a 40" you would want to be sitting 80" away. But yeah that 40" looks nice. The Sony is fine but I'm not a fan of Sony. They're over priced (you're paying to have that Sony emblem on the TV it seems) and the picture just seems brighter on them compared to other LCD's. But not in a good way. Also, this might not pertain to this model, but some of their newer models seem to have a shitty viewing angle. Their new 60" LED has a horrible viewing angle. So I'd look at the TV's from the side too. Even if you don't side on the side you never know!

Plus! The Samsung has 4 HDMI compared to two for the Sony. You could do a lot more with the Samsung.

Thanks for the tips Brendan.

Hey so guess what? We got the Samsung 550 in at work today. Granted it wasn't supposed to come to our store but I only found that out after I had set it up. So comparing it to the 540 (which I had set it up beside) it looked nice. Better black levels and nicer, crisp picture. Still, both TV's looked great.

Consider these should be older models. We get 6 month old technology at best.
Are we talking about the same exact model?

My main concern is the contrast ration, 70.000:1 is not THAT good. And the response time is 6ms.

Yeah, it was the 40B550 that I had on display. We have the 40B540 as our stores TV. The 550 belonged to Future Shop.

The contrast ratio on that one is low because the 5 series is their entry level TV. We have the 52" version of the 540 beside some other Samsungs (450 plasma, 610 LCD) and Panasonics (who only make plasmas) and it holds up pretty well.

I'm wanting to get the Samsung 46" 610 but I'd settle for the 46" 540 if the price was right. I'm not sure what the pricing would equal out to with your currency and Canadian currency. We sell the 40" 540 for $800 Canadian. I don't consider that a bad price at all for a TV like that.

Well it 7k pesos for LN40B550, which translates into 1.700 u$s roughly.

It's kinda pricey. but on par with all Tv's. They rape us with these.

Do you mean $1,700? HA! That's FUCKED!
Yeah, and consider that i have to earn 4 times that for the 7.000.

It's like it would cost me $7000 us.

Tati, I dunno if you can in your country, but ask the salesman to hook up a blu-ray player into the TV you're thinking of buying. When I tell the salesman that I will buy today, they do whatever I ask (which is why I prefer salegirls).

You could also hook in a laptop that has hdmi or dvi out to get a rough idea as well. Just download a HD movie. Not trying to start a format war here, but the blu-ray will give you the best quality though.

Got the tv!
Getting it delivered on saturday. It was pricey, but on 50 payments with no interest is easier.

Tech qestion time, i've got a Gforce 9800gt on my pc and i plan on hooking up the pc to the Tv, what type of cable do i need to buy for it??

Thanks!
