Comcast's possible take over of NBC

Word is that Comcast will keep the cable channels and sell off the NBC network to a third party.

-Will MSNBC start becoming more conservative?
-What will happen to the Jay Leno show and Law and Order?
-More shows set in Philly?

In all probability, Jeff Zucker would be shit-canned, Leno canceled and Law & Order still on the air.

yeah, I read somewhere...don't remember where exactly. That Leno would be one of the first things axed if this goes through.

Hopefully L&O Classic would get at least one final season to break Gunsmoke's record.

Well, it's not "possible" anymore, it's happening. It'll probably take a year for everything to be reviewed and approved though, and we've been told it'll be business as usual until late next year. Here's hoping we'll get an employee discount on Comcast service.

This should be fun for the folks who have DirecTV, Dish, or another competing content provider. Sweating over rate increases and general cable company fuckery is why I ditched TV service altogether.

I don't like it. Of course, I also may still be biased against Comcast since they want to charge me $2000 to install cable at my house.

Wait, so the whole thing on 30 Rock was mirroring reality? Damn.

Bah, can't stand Comcast's cable service, but if it can free up some time for more scripted shows...well...you know...

Goodbye, Jay Leno Show.

I got the email from "Jeff" today. I'm not sure I understand it, are you guys still GE employees? It almost sounds like a joint venture ...

Except for the employee discount part. That's science fiction.

Every news story I've read has said the deal won't be finalized until next year after the feds review it, so common sense would dictate not much is going to change for employees or the business until then. Not sure what's so privileged about that little tidbit.

Now that would probably be considered privileged, even if I knew an answer.

I can only guess about your company but my company frowns on any public dissemination of corporate news by any employee outside of PR.

What I asked was public information btw ...

GE executives are insisting that the corporation's giant red GE logo remain on the 30 Rockefeller Plaza headquarters of NBC in New York, even after Comcast takes over, according to people involved in the negotiations for the landmark media sale.
Photo: Who's logo will top 30 Rock after Comcast GE deal for NBC?
The centerpiece of Rockefeller Center, the 70-floor, 872-foot GE Building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza is seen in this Sep. 1989 file photo. Which company logo will adorn the historic 30 Rock after Comcast acquires NBC from General Electric?

Comcast and GE announced this morning that a multi-billion deal has been reached in which Comcast would hold a 51 per cent interest and GE a 49 per cent interest in a joint venture combining the programming and broadcast assets of the two companies. Comcast's cable television operation would remain separate.

GE chairman Jeffrey Immelt and other members of his executive team also intend to keep their plush 53rd floor offices in the New York skyscraper, according to people connected with NBC.

So I want to ask, are the chances good that this will go through.

Shows how times have changed, 20 years ago this probably wouldn't of been allowed for monopolistic reasons.
