Man, I just got back from Albuquerque a couple of weeks ago. Maybe if I stayed I could have stopped this. I could have stopped this...

Richard Jenkins will play whatever Hakan's new name is in the film

You know, I'm going to reserve judgment on this one. I love the original, but it's on the shelf, and I'm curious to see how this plays out. The casting's very interesting on this, and it could have been really bad, but it looks like they're really going for actors instead of wannabe stars.

Not digging the look of the little girl, she looks like a princess. Kody whatshisname looks suitably creepy I guess. Hopefully they'll stick closer to the book and we'll get a Richard Jenkins boner-zombie.

It's been awhile since I've read the book, but wasn't Oskar's mom dating a cop in that version? Could that be Koteas's role?

Yes, he was a cop. Could this adaption be more faithful to the novel?

well, Santa Fe is about an hour north of Albuquerque, and it gets plenty of snow this time of year –I'm sure if that's what they want, they can get it.

I'll be approaching this remake with pretty low expectations.

Also, regarding a more faithful adaptation: I thought that the author properly excised the more b-grade and drawn out elements from his novel when he wrote the screenplay for the original film. The book has a lot of padding that adds nothing but needless filler with characters that don't engage. The cop and his mom, the cop's son, Hakan's zombie attacks, all of that really took away from the core relationship in the novel, and I was glad to see it missing in the movie, which I consider superior.

Can't believe I still haven't read the book. Thanks for the info, guys, I wasn't aware that Oskar's mom was in a relationship outside of her estranged marriage in the story. Is he a major character in the book?

He's pretty important. I really like the book. It's a different animal from the film, much more of a proper horror story. I'd agree that perhaps the film is the superior take on the story, but the book is really good in it's own right.
