More Joe Dante is always a welcome thing. Had not heard of this, so thank you for bringing it to my attention and I do hope it gets out of the festival circuit. It sounds chilling and wonderful. Especially curious about the 3D.

Hopefully it won't suffer the fate of Dante's last (very underrated and damned funny) film LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION.

Silly me. I thought you literally meant that Dante had been in the wilderness. Sounds like fun. Never even knew the film existed. Will definitely look for it.

While other filmmakers who came up alongside Dante foist huge, soulless spectacles on audiences, the real talent works cheap and fast. At least all those years with Roger Corman paid off for Dante.
Nice.

Looking forward to this. I miss Dante so bad.

I would KILL to see Joe Dante's take on IT. Here's your man, Warner Brothers remake guys!

The Hole just proves how much Joe Dante SHOULD be working. He hasn't lost a step. It's fun, the scares work and him being the consummate film scholar, his 3d is fresh and innovative. It really is absurd that someone hasn't picked this up yet.

Where the heck is this flick??? Trailer (from a year back) makes it look more like THE GATE meets IT meets WONDERLAND more than I originally imagined. And here I thought it was something like DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Does this have a distributor or release info yet???

A clearer version with less footage... I'm getting a very old-school 80s vibe, like Fav's fun ZATHURA.

Weird, it's already on DVD here.

I guess I can order a 2D "is it official?" Hong Kong Region 0 dvd release from amazon. But the US hasn't had anything as far as I know.

And my thoughts from the the other thread

Man this film is a lot of fun, surprised how few people seem to have actually seen it. It's certainly not perfect, but it's got a great tone. Reminds me a lot of Coraline in that it's obviously meant for kids, but it's not willing to pull punches either. I think that lack of pulling punches might hurt the film though, in my mind this is a perfect kid/teen horror movie but over here at least it's got a 15 rating which seems to exclude it's major audience.

It definitely feels like mid-level Dante, I'd rate it similar to the 'Burbs, and looks kind of cheap at times but it's so effective at what it does that I can't help but like it.

Region: Region B/2

Is this an issue? B/2? Is it PAL? I've never ordered an overseas bluray.

EDIT: http://www.amazon.com/Blu-Ray-region-code/forum/Fx2GOMRWQ149A7Q/Tx1OT2SGG7LP11S/1?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00005JLBC

* B/2: Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

I don't think I have an open region bluray player. Guess I'll have to look into it.

Yeah, Region 2/B is Europe. I think American is Region 1/A, if you've got a PS3 it should be fine (as it's multi-region), if not..sorry.

It is?

I'm fairly certain the PS3's drive isn't region-free.  It isn't for DVDs and I can't imagine that it's different for blu-rays.

But the regions are different between the two formats.  Blu-rays seem to be a lot more open in terms of region codes.

My PS3 used to be able to play American discs, (which won't play on my Region B player), so I just assumed they all were like that.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on there.  You have actual evidence of region-free capability.  And a search on Google gives me a lot of mixed answers.

THE HOLE: in 3D

Not a porn parody and not region 1.

I want to say that since America is such a huge exporter of movies, that PAL players automatically decode and play Region 1 NTSC DVDs.   Too bad it's not the other way around :(

Finally got to see this one. Really liked it. Dante hasn't lost a step. The brothers' relationship and language rings true (especially since I grew up with my own brother in a troubled single-mom household). Very much a feature length "Amazing Stories ep" like Devin's review suggests. As a matter of fact, it's a great companion piece to THE TWILIGHT ZONE MOVIE, particularly Dante's own segment "It's a Good Life", where a child makes things come true with his imagination. It's an 80s throwback, and small in scope, but I love that about it. Like LITTLE MONSTERS, TROLL, IT, and THE GATE, this would have been a childhood fave.
