Dallas Issuing Tickets For Not Speaking English

Hooboy.

Police officers giving drivers $204 tickets for not speaking English? It sounds like a rejected Monty Python sketch. Except the grim reality is that it has happened at least 39 times in Dallas since January 2007, according to The Dallas Morning News. At least six officers in several different patrol divisions wrote the tickets, each time citing a driver for violating a law that does not exist. All but one of the drivers were Hispanic.

Hahahaha What the hell happened to your country guys? I used to look up to it.

Well now you still can. For what NOT to do.

Ohh, oh Texas. You're the baby I want to cradle in my arm, coo at, say everything is going to be alright, then smother you.

edit: nevermind.

Seriously, it's Dallas. Everyone that shits on Houston has never been to Dallas. What a fucking cesspool.

To add, Dallas is probably the one city/town not located in bumfuck deep woods East Texas/Louisiana border that will still ticket you for driving while black, and get away with it.

Whatever we learn, it is likely to be highly embarrassing to the Dallas authorities, who have promised to refund the fines to the drivers who have already paid up...Where were these officers’ supervisors, who presumably reviewed and approved each of these tickets after they were filed? Where were the judges who must have encountered these language offenders in traffic court? The noxious practice was exposed and stopped only last month after one driver, Ernestina Mondragon, responded to her ticket with defiance and a lawyer.
So, the Dallas authorities only looked into this and/or issued refunds after they were caught with their pants down? "I'd like to introduce you to my lawyer." "Oh, well, SAAAAY!! And I'd like to introduce you to your refund! You just send that mouthpiece of yours on home now, y'hear?"

Also, Ernestina Mondragon is kind of a badass name.
It's not just the officers. It's the clerk entering the ticket, the municipal judge (who is more than likely Hispanic) who assesses the fine and issues any possible warrants... what the fuck is going on in Dallas?

It's Dallas. Texan wannabe.

5$ it's that woman, and her "lawyer" was a dude named Lamia.

The other really disressing thing about that article is that Obama and Homeland Security want to put immigration law in the hands of local law enforcements, which is how you get fascist chuckleheads like Joe Arpaio in charge.
I'm busy at work cleaning my house (no paid work today!) but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the area of the country this happened in. New England does not have these racism/facism problems. Since my views on the south are well known though, I'll shut up now.

PS Texas wanted to be it's own country. We should have let them. By 2009 they'd have become a slightly whiter version of Mexico ,and we'd be border walling them off for good. Oh, and the last President from my beloved Massachusetts would have had no reason to visit their hate-state, which most definitely would have had a positive impact on world history. To this day they're still threatening secession. Shit or get off the pot! If you want to leave, fine, but don't expect a Christmas Card (Or help from the military of the United States in fighting the Mexi-Cartels Don't worry...You can just issue them tickets for not speaking english! ). Goodbye and good riddence

Thank you and good night, ladies and gentlemen.

Kate, Maine just voted down homosexual rights two days ago.

They're just angry they can't read ALL the billboards they hide their speed traps behind...

Kate, New England is still racist as fuck. I just got back from a week-long trip spanning New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts and that shit is alive and well.

Sure it doesn't. Remember these? The busing riots in 1974? Cut out the holier-than-thou attitude. Yes, it was in the past, but racism is still a problem everywhere. Granted, in some places more than others, but, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone." This is coming from an atheist.

Racist people can be found everywhere, and I am profoundly sorry if you encountered racism in NE. With that said, 206$ tickets for not speaking english are not issued in Massachusetts. There is racism, and then institutional racism. Hard to do anything about the first one, but the second one can be chalked up to a state's government basically being cool with keeping non-whites down. Otherwise these officers would have been too terrified of losing their jobs to ever pull this facist shit*

*However this is also partly a police issue. No matter the state, you'll find lawless police. A good book to read is "The Cops ARE the Robbers". Police reform is needed everywhere, from my Massachusetts all the way to California

I know. I'm pretty pissed about that. They used to be part of Massachusetts. Looks like it was a good idea for them to leave the Commonwealth

With that said, NE (As a region, compared to say, the south or the midwest) is better than the entire rest of the country on gay rights though.

I think is so adorable the way she tries to cover up one unfounded overly generalized statement based on complete fantasy with another. So amusing, like watching a kid with downs syndrome try to sing the star spangled banner.

Racism is everywhere. I've spoken about the south in the past, don't want to get in to it all over again. However, NE is way less sinful than the south is, racism wise. That's just a fact. Have we been guilty of the sin of racism? Sure. But we NEVER lynched and burned black teenagers and sent festive postcards to loved ones to commemorate the event. "Look at the BBQ we had!". That shit actually went down in the south. It's American History and Southern History.

And as for modern racism, I think I feel comfortable enough to cast stones at the state that has officers ticketing people for not speaking english. Sorry. The second that happens in Massachusetts, believe me I'd be protesting in the streets. I want Texas to be as upset about this as I am

Anyway, that's all I'm going to say on that subject today. I've made my point , I don't want a fight, and I've got to get back to cleaning my room now

Doesn't someone come do that? You know, when they bring you your meal and change out the padding on the walls?

Hey Lisa, to show how friendly we are here down in big, bad, racist Texas I would like to extend you an invitation to the Jasper Drag Races. Why? Because it's Thursday, and we love us a lynchin'! Just bring your own chain, ok?
OMG you're a bad man! Because you're from Texas.
Probably not the best of examples Billy. It's only been what 10, 11 years since that happened in Jasper. I definitely wouldn't hold them up as a shining example of Texas.

Harharhar..

Everyone thinks I'm so crazy for saying the south is more racist than the rest of the country. However, I've cited historical examples that no one has been able to come up with a reponse to . When you can address the reason why only the south ever thought lynching BBQ postcards were a funny idea, then we can talk

Seriously, address the fact that racism in the south regularly reached grotesque extremes that never happened in NE, or admit you don't have a counter argument. "Haha! Padded walls!" does not disprove my basic point

Seriously, roont.

Racism is everywhere, it was (is) just more blatantly obvious in the South, especially in the instances you cited. Weren't most of those NE people you mentioned responsible for the atrocities committed on the Native Americans, either directly, through funding, or by stirring up the sentiments?

Was my sarcasm not dripping enough, HBarr? Or did my bloody truck hitch give me away?

Oh, and not to derail this thread, but did you hear that Mary's is shutting down? A lot of GLBT groups in town are working to save some of the memorabilia to the place. They must want to burn it , because no way would they want to preserve a major piece of gay history in this bigoted state!

The tales I could tell about that place. At any rate, it's been in danger of closing many times. I hope this time Mary's isn't closing for real. Would definitely be a sad day as there is indeed lots of history in that little block of Montrose.

Also, my sarcasm meter was malfunctioning. Hitting it against your bloody hitch seemed to work.

Its not you saying that the south is more racist, its the self-righteous attitude you take. You have no moral high ground, as you are not completely clean. Stop now.

It's definitely shut down. No rent has been paid for months apparently, but they are trying to get inside to at least get some of the "historically important" pieces out of there, and into other Montrose bars.

There wasn't any America "letting" the Republic of Texas exist, we sorta made it happen all on our lonesome. 'Course, not having any actual money kinda made it impossible to function.

Dallas would still be a 100% fucked up place no matter which country was running it.
Being from Dallas County, this doesn't surprise me. The law enforcement and even the school system have terrible history of corruption.

And, if I'm not mistaken, it's like the second largest liberal Texas city outside of Austin, if I remember the voting tallies from the last Presidential election right.

There's a line in "The Thin Blue Line" that goes something like, "If ever there was a Hell on Earth, it's Dallas County." That line - and the film - always stuck with me, and apparently things haven't changed all that much in the last 20 years.

Speaking of burning people, You northern bastards are just as crazy, just a different brand of crazy.

So there is my counter argument.. the Red Sox are over rated and Tom Brady is a pussy...blah blah blah blah...
Christ.

Please let it be known that I'm not activley agreeing with Princess Psycho. However, Please tell me you're not comparing active and rampant racism in Dallas, and events as recent as a few years ago in Jasper with the Salem fucking witch trials, hundreds of years ago. If you want to go that route, hey, we all killed each other and feasted on each others brains millions of years ago, so why keep picking on Texas, amirite?

And yes, I know you're just trying to counterargument Kate for the sake of couterarguing her, but please don't lower the discourse on her behalf, MBN, you're better than that (unless you're talking about the Ravens :-) )
Hey Chris, I'm giving the Ravens one hell of shot coming this Monday! We might be a slight odds the week after though

I was just digging up what ever I could find the counter her in hopes of some crazy ass answer..ha ha ha So far I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not comparing what append to Jasper or Dallas to Salem, just saying some crazy shit happened up in her parts It just seems the North and the South burnt a lot of people!
