That's why I said I'm not comparing them in terms of health effects. I was simply responding to Tim's statement that the service a business provides need be a necessity, as well as provide a safe environment.
Providing alcohol to a group of people is not inherently dangerous, but we all know that it often turns out that way. Likewise, whereas smoking and second hand smoke is dangerous, it's not so dangerous that a night or two during the weekend around smokers is going to give you cancer if the rest of the time your not around it. It's different for bar tenders, sure. But they are adults and they do choose to work in the environments that they do.

I agree with Butler and Tim (and seemingly everyone not on my side), that it's not a giant hassle for smokers to step outside. But just because that's the case, it doesn't mean I have to agree with the policy.
