College soccer player goes nuts, performs karate on field

It's been all over ESPN and TSN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHPWDQw3J4Y

I didn't see it posted on the board.

That's not karate, she's just an asshole.
We need the WNHL now.

I saw this on TV a while ago. That bitch should be banned from the sport. The way she's so nonchalant after pulling that other girl's ponytail makes me want to punch her in the mouth.
That's hot.
I love how she only got yellow-carded, and that was like after 4 attacks
post #7 of 29
Finally, an entertaining soccer match... game... friendly... errr unfriendly? What are we calling these?
I wonder if that opposition #7 who seems to have started the whole thing will ever elbow anyone in the ribs again.
It really looks more like she starts turning and moves her elbow back by accident, she's clearly reacting to something off camera.
It looked to me like Lambert walked up and kneed #7 in the back of the leg, causing the girl to retaliate with an elbow.
Wow. Women's soccer is more manly than the men's soccer.

And I loved that the whole team (white shirts) aren't doing anything at all while one of their player keeps getting abused.
Yes, it's an asshole move and she should be punished for it. That being said, I'm impressed with how quickly she was able to lay that girl out with one quick hair tug.
No way, that first player clearly elbowed her on purpose because she was crowding her.

It's a sport. Some people get emotional and take it to far. The girl is clearly personally pissed about something (whether it's the additional elbow or something else) and trying to take it out on the opposing team. That the refs didn't catch it earlier in the game is kind of ridiculous.

Still, having played soccer for years in my youth I can certainly understand how these games go and how if you're pissed and get too emotional you start just trying to take people out instead of playing the game.
I'm amazed at the number of people defending that girl's actions.

And she does karate chop a girl right in the throat toward the sidelines (around 1:05).
Is anyone really saying she didn't do something wrong? She clearly did. Usually though, you aren't given the opportunity to commit that many flagrant penalties in a game.

And much of the response has been sexist so my point was to simply say that I know how games can go that way for either gender. It's a competitive thing and sometimes your anger or emotions get the better of you.

Suspended indefinitely from all team activities. Well-deserved, in my opinion. The hard tackles and such, the shoving - I can get behind that. Shit gets rough and competitive. But the hair tug, the ball kicked in the face, the karate chop to the throat - that chick's outta her tree.

Somewhat novel to see this kind of thing happen in a women's match, but really pitch rage is nothing new, especially if one is familiar with the European game. Some classics:

The no-brainer that is Zidane/Materazzi

The avatar worthy Ferguson/Freund

and of course the timeless Jones/Gazza (this move is affectionately called The Midnight Meat Grab)

Then there's always Roy Keane. Every week.

She's like the Tony Jaa of soccer. Nice enough, just don't push her around. I'm amazed at her reflexes and skill at take downs. It's pretty impressive stuff (even if it's out of place in that particular sport). Specifically at the :47 mark on that video. The shot is in slow motion and her hair grab move is still lightning fast. Soo cool! I got in a fight once in middleschool, and I'd have sold my soul to the devil for even just a tiny fraction of her inate combat (soccer?) abilities. At least my opponent was no Elizabeth Lamberth either, so things did not end too badly for me

Eric Cantona vs. Supporter is still undisputed champion in this category though.

Or how about the Dyer Vs. Bowyer fight? They're actually on the same team!

Those sly little elbow jabs are part of every defenders game, it's how you deal with it, this woman is dumb for making her retaliation so obvious. When I used to play back in Uni, one of our defenders would make a grab for the balls of the oppostion strikers they were marking as the corners come in to put them off. It's a pretty snide tactic but it was quite effective.

There was a guy on my college's soccer team that used to yank out the leg hairs on opposing players when no one was looking.

I'll be damned if you just didn't nicely explain my thoughts on this matter...and I'm not sure how to feel about that.

There people both here and in the link saying she was just "defending" herself as the other girl elbowed her first.* She's got one hell of a defense mechanism. God forbid someone accidentally bumps her at the check out line. Poor granny's gonna have a bottle of prune juice cracked over her head.

Elizabeth Lamberth ,has been suspended..for basically defending herself,i do not like violence at all, sometimes you have to stand up for yourself otherwise it goes on...

To be clear, even though I mentioned the other girl seems to throw the first shot with that elbow, I wasn't defending the main offender. Just wondering what that #7 thinks now that she's seen that dirty tactics can have extra-dirty consequences.

There's also the fact that other antagonism may have already happened off-camera (maybe even off-field with boyfriend stealing or cyber-bullying or any of that good stuff) so we don't know who really kicked it all off. It's worth acknowledging that even though her on-camera behaviour was over the line and, assuming she wanted to continue in the sport, idiotic, we're ignorant to circumstance in a case like this.

reminds me of this old tape Vinnie Jones did where he openly and unapologetically discussed various tricks of the trade:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkwHtnz12Yk

The UK has a great tradition of dirty players, but this guy almost raised it to an art form. Knowing this adds to my enjoyment of his movies.

As bad as what she did was...I love that freakin' hair pull. That chick is out cold when she hits the ground.

She expresses regret, says she's in therapy:

Probably not her decision, schools force you to go so that they won't be liable in case you flip out in the future
