Best Tekken yet? Nice! But is it still Virtua Fighter's little brother with a rather severe case of ADD and mild control retardation?

Maybe, but you can't kick a bear in the breast in Virtua Fighter.

Tru dat. I'm a Virtua fan, as I love the realism of it, but I really like Tekken. It's like VF, but with robots, bears, Godzilla, etc. Good to know the new one is worth playing.

You know, the 360 has an optional hard drive install too. It also cuts down on load times in some cases. I just think that would've been worth mentioning.
Good point, but not all 360s have hard drives.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to go back and check the manual, because I don't remember seeing it - they didn't do such a hot job advertising the install. Not that I have the 7GB to spare, anyway.
Well it's not really something that's advertised in manuals. Any 360 game can now be installed to the HDD from an option in the dashboard, I believe it's under Game Library. You select the game disc from the Game Library menu, and you should be given an option to install the game to the hard drive from there. It doesn't help with every game, though, and actually hurts performance of some, like Halo 3.

Thanks. I never upgraded my piss-poor launch HDD, so it's little wonder that I never explored the menu installs.

A cursory google of '360 tekken 6 install' doesn't yield anything by way of load times, but I'll update the article if I can find some data, Radb707.
I got the 120GB HDD a while ago, and I usually keep whatever two or three games that I'm playing the most at any given time installed on it. So far, it's shown a marked improvement in load times with Forza 3, and when I had Mass Effect on there it almost completely eliminated the unsightly texture pop-in that would happen. Elevator rides were still there though, their length is hard coded into the game.
I think the only game that doesn't show improved load times is Halo 3. Wasn't there an issue there for people who tried to install it onto the HDD?
Specifically I think the issue was with the premium content like the map packs. When it's trying to pull both the game and those maps off the HDD at the same time, it fucks the game up for some reason.

Most other games either show an improvement, or not enough of an improvement to really justify the install. I think the only two I've got on there right now are SFIV and Forza 3.
Well, the issue with Halo 3 was that they actually did this cool thing where they cached to the hard drive and read from the DVD drive simultaneously to basically get higher data rates/faster load times if a hard drive was present. If you installed the game to the hard drive though, it'd try to read the 'DVD' data from the hard drive while simultaneously reading the 'cached' data and you'd actually get worse performance.

And yeah, I try to keep about 6GB free on my 360 hard drive just so I can install it to the disk. Then I don't have to deal with the my really loud DVD drive while I play a game.

I wish I could do the same thing with the PS3 versions of all the games since I actually just upgraded my drive on that (it was so easy and a 500GB drive was only $80). Ah well, at this point we all are plenty aware that the 360 has the PS3 beat in the OS feature department.
Yeah, that was it. I knew it was some weird reason that most other games don't have to worry about.

SO ANYWAY you can install Tekken 6 to the HDD, maybe it improves it maybe it doesn't. I'd wager there's some improvement, but probably not as dramatic as the PS3 install version since I believe PS3 games are better coded for hard drive installation, I don't know. Computers may as well be magic.

When I played Tekken 3 I always picked Gon :3

I guess the important question is, "Can I get my ass kicked by a giant panda as I button mash?"
Yes.

Next question.
PS3 installations take fucking forever, though. And they're mandatory.
360 installs aren't very brisk, but they are optional.
Believe me, they breeze by compared to some of the ridiculously long PS3 installs.

It's a moral imperative for all beings of flesh.

Glad to know its not only me.
Are the boxing Velociraptor and the Kangaroo still in it?

What are you asking me for?

I love the often huge differential between the spectacular names of Tekken's special moves and the actual moves themselves. Like in the command list, you'll see

--> --> X Thunder Nova, Bane of Loki's Wrath

And then you do that, and it's a punch that's sort of fast.

It's Tekken. Button-mashing is a prerequisite and a necesarry skill.

Did they just drop pretense with Eddy Gordo finally, and just give him one move listing?

"Fast punch" is not a winning name. You gotta sell this move.
I'm secretly wishing they'd do a crossover game with both Tekken and Killer Instinct. It would be filled with endless cheap moves characters, neverending combos, and insane action.

One time I beat the Tekken 3 single player game with Eddy. I spent all of it with my back to the TV and mashing the triangle and square buttons.

Needless to say, Eddy was banned from all multiplayer competition.

I do have one question about Tekken 6: is it all 'serious business' or does it still have some of the crazy humorous endings that the others had?
Pretty sure he says it's the weirdest Tekken yet in the review.
