Probably IRON MAN. SPIDER-MAN 2 is boring, and THE DARK KNIGHT is outright dreadful by any and all objective standards.

Who's next? I'm enjoying these street-corner "rap" sessions. If anyone wants to ask me about my views on STRIPTEASE, now is the time. All Paul Mccartney film critiques must go!

Have you ever seen Singh Is King? I think you might love it.
I have never even heard of it. But the robust 5.0 rating on IMDb beckons!

I have, however, seen CROCODILE HUNTER: COLLISION COURSE. Aside from a gripping fight between Steve Irwin and a CIA black ops guy on the roof of a speeding 4WD, it's a complete washout! 3 out of 10.

My guess is that in New Zealand you probably don't have any standard of awesomeness. Probably none for kick-assedness either. I'm pretty sure that's why you Kiwi's hate Zeppelin.

You make absolute sense Parker. People with underdeveloped personalities define themselves by their taste in and loyalty to their favourite art and entertainment because they create/produce nothing of value themselves. It's their comfort blanket and if you put across reasoned points for the problems you see in a film and yet find you're dissed on the simplistic grounds of taste then it's either one of those babies throwing a tantrum or if you're unlucky it's one of the smarter cats just being cranky and lazy.

But as long as you're regularly talking about films you like as well as films you don't (so as to avoid being mistaken for a snob, a hater or a troll) and you have a good grasp on your reasons for feeling as you do about each one then the best posters around here might bust your balls or thow a jab or two if they disagree but generally it'll be good-natured and ultimately come from respect and include the reasons they feel the opposite to you. The rest, ignore 'em all to hell.

Our buddy Paul McCartney though; does he leave himself more open to ridicule because he might be less interested in actual discussion than the idiosyncratic expressiion of his taste? Does he understand the methods that a film-maker employs in order to have their film come across warm-heartedly? He clearly knows what he thinks, but does Paul McCartney know why?

What is your favorite Arnold movie?
You hate most Tim Allen movies... But do you at least appreciate Galaxy Quest?

Furthermore, please bring back your Domingo quote as a sig for a couple of days. I know maybe Domingo jokes are becoming passé on the boards but I really liked it.
That’s one of my main issues with McCartney, and with some of the B-Actioners. He just seems to find anyone having any sort of reaction to a film completely hilarious. It’s like if you don’t subscribe to his general aloofness in regards to film then you’re a simpering idiot. I know it’s prime season to beat up on Domingo, and the quote in question is kind of overwrought, but I think laughing at someone for having an emotional or intellectual reaction to a movie, on a movie messageboard, is kind of odd.
By the way, since someone asked, it's because Spike is literally a giant walking crying vagina that we don't like him. He just wobbles around, weeping out of his hideous clit-face. It's really unsettling!
I think if Domingo had just said something like: Jesse James is a great film. It really affected me, PM would have left him alone. (Probably not. He is, after all, Domingo).

For the record, PM hasn't picked on a lot of people. And we all have our moments. (Remember? I coined the phrase: Bad films are sometimes liked by good people... still kicking myself over that one) I think he basically leaves you alone unless you're on his shit list. Case in point: Many B Actioners are big fans of the Nolan Batman films, which he hates. Yet there's never been any vehemence over there about that issue. When he goes off on one of his anti Dark Knight tirades, it's all good. At least it's entertaining.

I think the Domingo quote made me laugh more for the way he presented it in his sig than for the quote itself. Call me an idiot but I laugh at funny-looking things.

But the quote is pretty funny. Jesse James shattered me to the point I was SHAKING!

By the way, I find it really absurd to be speculating in the third person about someone who is actively participating in a discussion about himself.

It's the hyperbole that put it over the top for me. I have emotional reactions to stuff, yeah, but I'd argue that there are a lot of people who are aching to let you know just HOW MUCH THEY WERE AFFECTED just because they really want to advertise that they got it, which can be annoying. Weeping at trailers, etc.

Nobody's saying it's not okay to have a reaction - hell, that's what movies are about for me. But I generally keep my emotional reactions to movies to myself, because hey, emotional reactions are generally personal to me. For some reason, though, emotional reactions seem to factor into that whole nerd dickmeasuring thing that goes on here, and that quote was an exemplary reaction of the worst fucking kind of that behavior.

Also, Domingo sucked regardless of when it was cool or uncool to pile on him.
I just don't see how that quote in particular is any worse than all of the people who wept through Wall-E or fist pumped at the end of Inglourious Basterds. It's an inherent part of message board culture, especially here. I understand why he did it, Domingo is and was a complete and utter dick, it just seems an odd form of attack.

Damn, look at this thread.
Paul McCartney is the new Devin.
Nothing to say, except that I share the love for my man Macca. And the fact that I'm better off not knowing where he comes from and why he does what he does. I remember him saying once that he occasionally enjoys playing particular scenes of movies just because of their sheer brilliance (whether ironically or not), and since it's something I also do, I like to think I got some kind of a soulmate in that. Well, that and the fact that we all feel pretty much at home in the Bond Thread, in which he and Phil rule supreme*.

Of course, I'm also one who'll defend Quantum of Solace to the death, admittedly quite foolishly, so I take it I must've been the butt of all his LOLs recently too.

Whatever. Thrasos, mate. (*slightly arches an eyebrow, then oh-so-slightly bobs his head sideways*)

* I must say I've also read all the books, but damn if their memory of them is almost photographic.

I'll bite. What are your views of Striptease? Best Burt performance ever? I wonder if he really covered himself with vasoline.

I think it all depends on how you approach your criticism of a popular title. I know you never just leave it at "This movie sucks balls. Anyone who likes it sucks" but we've had many new posters come in here and say pretty much exactly that. So, if people get up in arms when people have a contrarian opinion expressed poorly it has nothing to do with who said it or what they said but rather the tone and words they use.
It also doesn't help that most contrary opinions are found in the never ending parade of "movies you don't like that everyone else does/classics you hate/movies you didn't get" threads, which are filled with dumb and flat-out wrong opinions. There's been some good discussion of contrary opinions -- Andre's Bueller thread, the "You Got It Wrong" series, Stormin started a great "defend a bad movie" thread a while back -- but on the boards, most of them wind up in morontown like those other threads.
Don't know how many times I've disagreed with Roger Ebert or even Devin about certain films, but they've always managed to back up their opinions in an intelligent fashion. While I may not necessarily change my opinion about a film after reading their reviews, I can understand and appreciate the viewpoint they're coming from.

Most of the contrarian posters on this board don't want to bother backing up their opinions. Seems like it's just a game for some, when they want to be looked at as being cute or clever. 99.9% of the time, though, they look like total schmucks.

Paul McCartney is a breath of fresh air when it comes to these boards. He can be informative and personally I find the guy to be a hoot for the most part and never found anything offensive about it. You'd have to be a real fucking prune to hate on him.

I take my hat off to PM. And like Phil, I'm also interested to read more on his take on film.

Macca's Bond blog, lest anyone think he's not 100% sincere on the boards. A very fun read if you're a Bond dork. Maybe even if you're not.

Pretty funny. You dudes need to update that thing like crazy, though.

Indeed, even after the overwhelmingly positive responses... he -and those other two guys- let it die like a headshot newlybride on a Portugal road! And I demand some more! DEMAND IT(tm)!

I really liked the write-up about On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Really good stuff.

Put me down firmly on the pro-Paul McCartney side of the issue.

I'm bumping the shit out of this. There are new movies coming and it's time to once again pontificate about this messageboard's Menacing Minstrel of Movie Mirth!  Of all my horrible threads, this remains my favorite. Why so quiet lately, Macca?

Just bumping this to say I miss the guy. The Bond thread hasn't been the same without him.

I miss him.  I'll still read old threads once in a while and spit on my monitor when I crack up from reading one of his posts.

Dammit. When I saw this bumped I was sure he was back! Alas....

Along with Luca S. he was probably my favorite poster here. I'm really interested in hearing what he has to say about The Avengers for some reason. I wonder what drove him away.

Oh yes. McCartney is most sorely missed.

He is. The guy was hilarious.

In any event, this spurred me to add the dvd of Give My Regards To Broadstreet onto my Amazon cart. I haven't seen that movie since 2008. It needs revisiting.

Not only did I love Macca's posts, I loved his signature....Signatures! The Heath Ledger was particularly inappropriate and hilarious.

I miss his scent.

I miss his musk.

I wish this blog had a billion more posts. Just now read it. Good stuff.

I had the privilege of meeting Macca when he came to the US. Very bright, funny guy. I kinda wanted to seduce him but I knew he wouldn't go for that shit so I held off.

My god, that blog is hysterical. They seriously should have put it on CHUD.
