Ludwig, it seems to me that bringing O'Riordan into the equation is like comparing apples to oranges. We might as well bring Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Chrissy Hynde, Brody Dalle and the like--and I'm not comparing talent here, mind you--into the mix.
I'd bring Pat Benatar into the argument. In fact, I think I did further up - very radio-friendly, often danceable and kind of faux-tough, kind of shallow songwrting. Maybe Jett on a particularly polished and poppy day*, too, but probably not the others (at least not Hynde in her heyday).

* And, yes, that's Paul Westerberg singing backup in the video. He wrote the song, which is very much in the vein of his contributions to the Singles soundtrack from around the same time.

I can only guess you're unfamiliar with the masterful and emotionally devastating "Hell is for Children".

Faux-tough? Look again, DaveB, look again.

That's from the "Love is a Battlefield" video.

Yes, yes it is. The emphasis being on how tough the Benatar is, not "Hell is for Children". Sorry for the confusion.

I reckon that's not the first 17-year-old tit he's had pressed against him.

Or the last.

And Pat Benatar belongs nowhere near a Miley thread, for the record.

Also, just sayin' . . . Jan Hellriegel has her first album out in 14 years . . . and it's glorious.

Pat Benatar belongs wherever there is a world in need.

That is a point of view I had never considered before, but can wholeheartedly endorse. Unicef needs to air-drop copies of "Precious Time" on third-world nations. That will sort them right out.

She belongs to the light, belongs to the thunder, belongs to the sound of the words we've both fallen under.

You and I both know this is a leaked promo photo for the new season of Rock of Love: Celebrity Jailbait.

Matchstick, I promise I'll stop making fun of Miley if you stop making these videos. They are starting to get a little creepy.

Miley Today Show Fail

This has to be edited, right? I've seen other videos of Miley singing live and she wasn't this terrible. Or was I just duped and she was using "backing vocal tracks" during those supposedly live performances?

That's obviously fake.
