Kane & Lynch: Dog Days

First bit of info- http://chud.com/articles/articles/21...URN/Page1.html

What say you, Chewers? Is the original worth picking up on the cheap?
It was decent enough, but nothing notable. I left it once i couldn't pass a level due to the incredibly bad aiming controls.
My friend loved it, but I didn't dig it at all. I found it hard to control, though multiplayer was fun.

The original Kane and Lynch is kind of fun until it hits Havana and then it becomes almost unbearably terrible.

Yep. There were some decent levels up until that point, and the voice acting is OK...but the aiming is not anything close to spot on. I don't often give up on games, but after my 10th playthrough of the Havana level I just said "fuck it" and boxed it.

Fun ideas really poorly executed. The controls are offensive.

It had the same controls as every other third person shooter if I remember correctly. But I played it on the pc, maybe the console controls were different.

It's been awhile since I've played, but from what I remember it's not the controls per-se; more like the fact that the aiming was god-awful. Regardless of how dead-on I was, or how I controlled my firing rate, the location of where my bullets would go was insanely inconsistent.

I enjoyed the first one a lot, and found its representation of violence pretty unique and interesting. If I may quote myself from an old review because it's been a while and I can't recall the experience enough to describe it well:

Quote:
One detail I must note is the death animation. Not everyone you shoot dies immediately; they sometimes writhe around (silently, thankfully) on the ground. I paid no attention until I was setting up an ambush in a room in which I'd felled six or seven police officers, and at the bottom of the frame I could incidentally see a wounded cop. He clutched the air; his face held an expression of fear and confusion. ... Not at all like typical video game violence, thoughtlessly blowing away faceless thugs with no consequence, Kane & Lynch treats its violence, while gratuitous, with an uncommon gravity and severity.
I don't know if anyone else was so powerfully affected by that, but personally I aimed for the legs for the rest of the game. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Yeah that trailer kinda makes me completely forget about the first one and get excited about this one.

Will there be TWO-PLAYER CO-OP in this one?

Hah, I'm sure they'll include online co-op this time, although it hasn't been announced. They got a lot of flack for it being only splitscreen in the last game.

Demo's out for 360 (was exclusive on Playstation Plus for a couple days)- http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/ga...0-00005343880e

Anyone try this one out? It's actually pretty impressive. The use of cameras really makes things stand out from other the other fpses out there, and I love the way it feels like a real shootout. Maybe it's just me but it seems like the game encourages massive sprayings of bullets, destroying the environment, rather than just going for headshot after headshot... although that's there too.

The launch trailer- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kfhmqXOcv0

Yep, pre-ordered for me and the roomie. The demo was aces, and I like that they're trying something new with the "lifelike" camera motion. Can't wait 'til Tuesday.

Love the docu-bootleg style but the gunplay was very repetitive for a 10minute demo.

Was looking forward to renting this on xbox, but peering at giantbombs review mentioning a game ruining bug makes me want to stay away. Though they say the ps3 version is alright.
Just played through the intro section on PC, and I really dug it. Don't want to delve any further because we bought this mainly for the two-player coop, which I won't get to try out until later tonight, and that's how I intend to review it. But from what I've seen I'm guessing this won't be for everybody.

It's a solid B. Very short campaign, though- you could probably blast through it in 4-5 hours with a friend. Arcade mode's fun but repetitive, but the online multiplayer is a lot of fun. Should have a review up tomorrow morning.
Yeah going by the Giantbomb review this might be a rental only. Jeff did it in 4 hours and the 360 version had a crippling bug that was repeated on all their machines around the office (The video review has footage of it).

Also; It's still weird seeing Jeff talk about the sequel to the game that got him fired from his old job.
What a short boring game. Even as a rental I am not satisfied. The co-op garage door opening cut-scenes remind me of 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, an infinitely more enjoyable romp than this dreary game. Don't let the graphics filters lead you to believe this is a special and unique game for the ages.

Undercover Cop mode sounds great for multiplayer, but that review really makes you not want to buy it.

I really enjoyed this one for what it is. Little longer with a little more variety and we could've had a really great game on our hands.

Alex did you get the same issue the Giantbomb guys had with the glitch? It seems to just be for the 360 version and after a good few hours of play.
yeah, this game is a pretty fantastic, if short, experience. i'm glad to see it's getting a little praise for a change... and it makes sense that a film site might 'get' the appeal of the game's presentation more than a gamer site would.

i played this on pc and didn't encounter a single bug. i know others have complained, but it played pretty flawlessly for me.

Same here, and the co-op is hard to beat. We've had a blast with it.

To be fair it seems that most game sites (Not that I read many) have been quick to praise the presentation of the game above anything else.

I'm looking forward to playing it, but really is completion in 4 hours a new record for a modern game? Not counting PSN/XBL titles that is.

Just watched the review and yes, I did get it once. It only locked up for a second though and didn't really affect anything- I didn't know it was a widespread glitch.
