Gotta throw some love in here for Night of the Blood Beast. The "Steve" bit is probably my favorite MST3K gag. Back in the day I was definitely a Mike guy (my first MST3K experience was the movie), but overall I think the Sci-Fi season/Riff-Trax crew was probably my favorite line-up. I like Joel's version well enough, but to me the appeal was always the riffing rather than the premise, and the later seasons just felt like 3 guys screwing around, and a sort of precursor to Rifftrax.
Not to say the new version is perfect; I think that while it's necessary as a business model, putting out so much content is definitely hurting the quality on some of the material (though the shorts tend to be pretty damn good overall). Still, certain titles (like Star Wars) manage to capture a lot of that old magic, and the live shows thus far have been killer. Hopefully the August 19th Reefer Madness keeps things going.
