Neaux Way Possible

Ok. I just uploaded my first blog post. I am beyond nervous.

It is kind of a newsy top 5 list summarizing a lot of bands I'm loving at the moment.
Read it here.

Please tell me what you think. I could do more stuff like this, but I also plan on opening up on everything from television to video games to just being a Dad.

I hope someone reads it.

Good stuff! I'll check the links out later but it's a solid start and I'll be checking in.

Nice work Simon, 13 Steps and Doimoi (Helmet and Soundgarden, yes, but moreso early Silverchair I'd say) plastered a big stupid grin right across my face immediately and OYA and Your Gold, My Pink have their charms too. The Bawdies sound about 6 years too late but still pretty fun.

So thanks for pointing me at these bands man, looks like I have another blogger to follow. Although I have to say, in the friendliest of manners, it's curious that you're so bored with US music and yet all these bands sound like big fans of US bands. Did the US rock scene steal your girl or something?

well... I gotta say I'm 35 years old and a product of the early 90's. So I think that skews my love for Doimoi and 13 Steps.

As for music in the U.S. it has been a POP music year. I actually find myself liking more U.S. pop this year than ever before. RAP has melded with the POP scene, so finding true hip hop is kind of tough. Other than a handful of rock bands in the U.S. not many have caught my interest. My favorite Rap/hip hop this year was from P.O.S. And the last U.S. rock CDs I bought were from Dinosaur Jr and Pearl Jam (more 90's driven rock).

As for Japan, it is definately going through a major Rock phase. There are many indie labels growing out in Japan and lots of niche rock bands, as well as mainstream rock under major label releases. It's a good time to be listening. I really like Your Gold, My Pink. Their sound is Garage driven, but I think they might have potential to truly create something unique.

I will try to throw more new music in these blog posts when something spectacular catches my ear.

Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read my first post. I truly appreciate it.

Another update: This one is about hockey.

I just read your first one, Neaux. Nice work! I'm actually watching a DVD called 'Global Metal' now, and they go into the Japanese metal scene quite a bit. Between that DVD and your blog, I definitely have some bands to check out.

Love the title 'Neaux Way Possible', by the way.

I don't understand Japanese but you're talkin' my language musically. I don't know if you ever checked out an album called Worst Case Scenario by a Belgian band called Deus but with some of those sounds you're leaning towards I think you might dig it.

And I don't understand that hockey jargon either (it's a game I've enjoyed watching live but watching it on TV I can never see the puck so I don't really follow it) but I do know what it's like to ride the emotional rollercoaster of supporting pro sports teams so I feel your pain there too.

Did a quick youtube on Deus and the song Suds & Soda came up, and while I didn't recognize the title or band, the song has that grating unforgettable Violin screech. I've heard this song many times before. Love it.

Yeah, that was the "hit" off that album. The more I listen to Doimoi the more the singer sounds like Japanese Daniel Johns to me but I'm liking Doimoi's songs (what's on myspace at least) better than Silverchair. Although those Aussie kids did have some cool riffs on their first album come to think of it.

well the song "Quotation" from Doimoi is brilliant. The chorus where Nimura screams "Quotation" is so much like Helmet but extremely awesome. What you don't get to hear is when the song starts to distort his voice, it's so unexpected but so freakin' great. You can hear the whole song at their Purevolume site.

That band is definitely floating my boat, really good stuff. They even get a kind of Mars Volta/At The Drive In vibe going sometimes, and that's a very good thing too. I'd bet they'd be pretty magnificent live.

I've noticed my title shifts from "Neaux Way Possible" to "Neaux Possible Way." Oh well. Consistency is a bitch.

anyway here are the last two updates. Bathroom Mixtape and Christmas Came Early.

It'll be 'Neaux Fucking Way' before long.

Thoughts on the ACER netbook now that you have/she has one? I was kicking around the idea of grabbing one related to a Black Friday sale.

So Christmas for the parents is officially over. Sort of.
My son will open a ton of presents as usual, but everyone needs to open at least one present at Christmas. So the wife and I are doing the $25 limit on each other. You know that bit, right? You say “Don’t spend more than $25 on a gift, because we are broke and already have our Christmas presents.”

I’ll let you know how well both of us keep to this plan after Christmas.
Man. You're trapped. If you don't spend more than $25 and she does? Screwed. If you spend more than $25 and she doesn't? Screwed.
My wife and I have an agreement not to buy each other ANYTHING for Christmas or birthdays. It took us a few tries to get it right (no sneaking in of a gift), but we've been able to stick to that agreement for 2 years now.

It's hers and I covet it. If you use it strictly as an internet source and light word work, it's beyond awesome. I bought my wife the 11.6" screen and the bigger screen is perfect and still light enough not to be a bulky laptop. I want one just to take to conventions I must travel to about 4 times a year.

She is on it in the living room while the son is watching tv or while me and son are playing floor hockey. It drags her off the big computer and brings her into the family room again. It was well worth the purchase.

Yeah, I think web/word is exactly why I might grab one. I can carry it around in case I get fucking mugged and I won't lose stuff like I would with my larger laptop.

Haha, nice bathroom playlist dude, although I'd rather have a catheter inserted than hear TLC's Waterfalls again. As for the rest of them though, it makes me wish I was incontinent.

And I'm not just jealous of your 32" HDTV, I'm jealous that you can sleep well with a tv in your room at all. For more than a decade I would fall asleep to the light and sounds of movies or late night tv but at some point I realized that even though I have a kickass bed I would often sleep better when I stayed at other peoples' houses who didn't have tvs in the bedroom (I don't just mean girls, I mean visiting family or friends). So one day I decided to try not having the tv in my room and after a bumpy withdrawal period found out I'm not really suited to falling asleep to tv and sleep a lot better now.

Even so, I have a kind of irrational nostaligia for it that gets stoked when I read something like your latest entry or hear Kevin Smith talking about his viewing habits. I honestly am jealous of it.

Amazon Prime trial! Just make sure to discontinue it, obviously, but I ordered that AVClub Inventory book on a Sunday evening and got it first thing Monday afternoon.

MORE DS-RELATED POSTS! Apparently there's a new space-exploration RPG game coming out that's supposed to be pretty good, but I fear that Mass Effect 2's gonna be like "okay too bad sorry honey go play over there".

Word on the street is you'll get a chance to check out your Nic Cage Wig theory when you see Bad Lieutenant and Kick Ass. Apparently he's the good in both but I haven't seem them yet so I can't give you any useful answer on that. What if it's chicken and egg though? What if it's the performances that are making you love his hair and not vice versa? Food for thought.

And I couldn't help noticing you've added your voice to the chorus telling me to see Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, I should hurry up and listen to that advice.

I just realized I still have to check out your recommened Asian hip-hop too, sounds intriguing.

ACER Aspire Review AS5740 5255
Nice review. I myself got a new laptop back in January. I trust HP, and my last laptop lasted about 5 years, so I got one of the newer models and am really digging it. I've seen the Acer models and they are impressive.

What's this deal with preconfigured computers at Best Buy?
Thread Starter
If you read at consumerist.com, they have a hayday with Best Buy's "open box" computers. There are best buy locations that won't sell you a boxed computer at the advertised price. Many computers are pre-opened and have had a geek squad guy already configure your computer without your request. Then they upcharge you for it.

Some best buys have changed this policy since the consumerist has been very vocal about it.
