Can You Tell This Is A New Iron Man Suit?

The difference is this one has no pants. You can't tell from the Empire picture.
I`ll bite, at the risk of being called a nerd.
It looks very similar, although I can see its a bit more streamlined and less angular, almost as if they have smoothened out and lightened up Adi Granov's original design from the movie/comics, this meaning the changes are almost non existant:

Best I can tell without comparing it to an image from the first movie, it just seems like the suit has become less streamlined. Particularly in the shoulders. But that could just be because the suit is in the middle of opening up some weapons compartment.

But seriously, I don't care. Looks cool.

EDIT: Huh... the exact opposite of what ryoken though. heheh
post #5 of 37
I can't point out specific details, but it looks just a little bit busier than the first one. Fuck I really can't tell.
Whoa, Nooj...although yeah, Im thinking you might be on to something.
Maybe the minimal changes are to make it look a bit more agile and slicker than the War Machine armour?
Looks a bit shinier and more metallic than the first suit, of cours that's probably just a result of the finishing done on this particular picture.

That is a great pic of...Iron Man! Clearly, the editors of, Empire, are just...Super!

This brings up an interesting point -- it seems like it's a given that for every superhero sequel since BATMAN the costume MUST be redesigned each time, no matter how slightly. I understand the filmmakers wanting to give the movie goers something new for their money, but in some cases the changes are so minute I can't help feel like they are just wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars over something only the hardest of hardcore nerds will notice. Did anyone notice the change in Spider-Man's costume between parts 1 & 2? Was it really worth the added expense of making the spider a little different when they could have just dusted off the old costume and spent more money on SFX? At least in THE DARK KNIGHT they came up with a reason to change the suit, even if they just made it kind of uglier.

Is it just me, or does he seem to look a little more : [ ?
He does look like he was just told to go up to his room without supper.

Supper being a bottle of scotch in this case.

The arm joints are different in this version than in the first movie (i.e. you didn't see the hinges at all, they were covered with plating). The 'ribs' on the chest look more pronounced/articulated that in the first flick too. My hope is that there will be enough Iron Man movies that some of the cooler variant suits will come out. I also hope that the War Machine suit in this movie isn't simply the plain silver suit from the first film that Rhodes was eyeing near the end.

I like that it hasn't changed much. The original armor was great. Why reinvent the wheel?

"Tobey, this suit from 2 years ago still doesn't fit you. Back to the gym, fuckface."

This Iron Man suit: I like the more brushed metal look on the face. But if there's one hero with whom they could have gone crazy redesigning for every sequel...

No shit. Even in the comics his suit changes constantly. I want the pointy-helmet look from the early 70's.
Kicking it 80s style (complete with shoulder pads) would have been fun to see:

Yep, there's an awful lot to choose from, except this one:

I'm with you. Though I don't really care about the expense they're putting in, really. I just think if it ain't broke, etc. I really liked the Iron Man suit from Part 1, so I guess I'm happy that the change is negligible.

I'm really pumped for this movie. May not earn me a lot of points here, but I liked IRON MAN more than DARK KNIGHT.

I'm partial to the Red & Silver armor. Then the suit that came right after the Red & Silver.

Is that real in any way or is that some fan trying to make a 'real world' Juggernaut suit?

I don't care about the expense either; I just don't get it. It's just to give designers work I guess, which is cool.

I think you'll find plenty of people around here who feel IRON MAN is superior to THE DARK KNIGHT. Not me though.

That could be the Hulk Buster armor I think.
I really wanted this one in at least an animated version of an Iron Man movie:

Eh, just cause the armor has so many different versions in the comic series and some of them are pretty cool!

Nope, that's the Hulkbuster armor. It's even been seen in the books.

EDIT: Drat, someone got to it already.

Me, anything that Stan Winston approved still works for me.

BTW, does Stan Winston Studios still exist?

Why not? Seemed like for every major foe that Iron Man encountered in the comics, Stark would have to re-engineer/upgrade/customize his suit to deal with that foe.

Yes, but they've changed the name to something too generic for me to remember. (Something along the lines of "Fantasy" or some shit) My buddy works there and is doing some work for this movie.

It occurs to me that I'm constantly mentioning friends who are in the biz. I apologize if it comes off as name dropping. When you live in LA long enough you just accumulate people this way, it's really no different than knowing the guy who works at the local car dealership.
Well, I think the most obvious change is the shadow heavy paint design. A type of new camo perhaps? Spoiler: Yeah, that's deliberate irony.

Question: Can I tell if the Empire Magazine photo is of a new Iron Man suit?

Answer: No.
I just re-watched all of my Samurai Jack DVDs and I am super psyched to see what Genndy Tartakovsky has to bring to Faverau's table.
There's a spoiler in the IMDb cast listing for this movie, so, be warned. And, while it might be IMDb posting fake shit again, the Minimates promo for the film was released and three figures were blacked out. One is obviously War Machine, but the other two look to be two more secret suits. I'm guessing one is a better-looking Whiplash from the third act (he CAN'T stay in that first "suit" the whole movie, I imagine), and the other might be what IMDb is spoiling.
I can't tell the difference. I'm sure with photos side by side it'll be glaring.

Regarding WHY they change these super hero costumes every movie: TOYS. Gotta give people new shit to buy. I don't really think it's more complicated than that.

Whatever... I see no nipples so we look like we're doing okay so far.
The armor looks like more easy to put on/drop in case something goes wrong. It looks really great.

Can't say that I'm a big fan of the "more angular" aspects of it and the new gold color looks a little flat and cheap (could just be the toy?) but overall it's an Iron Man suit that will work just fine within the film.
