Important THOR Question

BEARDED or BEARDLESS?
A decision that will probably make or break the upcoming motion picture.

For me it's BEARDED all the way.
Bearded. Just looks better.
Bearded looks way cooler, so I personally lean toward that, though I have a feeling we're going to get clean-shaven Thor in the movie.

Yeah I think they'll go with baby-face thor in the movie. If they have the balls to give him a manly Simonson beard, I'll be very surprised. I can't remember the last time I saw a lead actor with a SERIOUS BEARD in a big budget movie.
CHUD, the home of the Nunzbeard surely must do everything it can to make sure Thor is treated properly. Beard or it's open war the likes of which Avatards only see in their worst nightmares.
Scruff. Leonidas by way of 300. That's my WAG.
I actually like that the Marvel U. version of Thor is the only non-bearded one you're likely to see. So...yeah.

I love Kirby, so I wouldn't mind a BEARDLESS thor.
But recently I've been reading through the old Simonson comics and MARVELING at how much cooler he looked with the beard.
I say thee...NAY, to...bearded, Thor! I too prefer the...Jack "King" Kirby Thor! Also, if this becometh's a...Trilogy, then Thor can grow a beard by part 3.
I thought I had troubles, but I've never had to face a HUMAN COBRA
post #11 of 40
Bearded; although Thor's beard isnt the most epic one in Asgard; that honor goes to Volstagg.
Asgard is a haven for manly man face hair, arguments could be made against Fandrall's Errol Flynn moustache and goatee, but they are moot in the end.
Bearded or not, I'm just wondering how on earth they're going to avoid making the helmet look silly.

I'm guessing he'll look more like Ultimate Thor (a goatee man) than classic Helmet Wing Thor.

WETA pulled off some nice winged helmets in LOTR; if they manage to make the Asgard/Earth worlds work, the winged helmet could work as well.

I'm certain Thor is going to fuck this Human Cobra up. Bring the hammer down on him literal like.
Marvel had a real hard-on in the Silver Age for throwing their biggest guns up against dudes whose main superpower was "I am bendy!".

Flexible people are freaky. Ex: men who do yoga.

The next big Marvel supervillain!

Do you trust this man with YOUR KIDS?!

Fake edit: I can't get away from that bean bag of a crotch. It's following me around the room. No homo.

Next Question!
Ultimate Thor Artist?

I guess it's a three man race between KIRBY, SIMONSON and whoever drew this:

The problem with Kirby's Thor is that initially, it was some of his weakest work (I think), and then when he was getting really strong, it was inked by Coletta.

With that in mind, I'll go with Simonson. I think he brought a really kind of unique look to Thor that made him stand out.

Pleaset tell thats on a T-shirt.

EDit: Also Simonson all the way here, even if im too fond of Kirby's crazy ass Asgard designs (Honorable mention to Perez in Avengers, he did a good beardless Thor)
There can only be one...King, and Jack "King" Kirby is Marvel's #1 artist in my book. Outside of comics, he designed the rest of the characters of...Thundarr The Barbarian, after his Mentor...Alex Toth had to step down from the show. Kirby's art, makes...The Mona Lisa look like the work of an...beginner.
It should be "a...beginner", duke. Even with unnecessary ellipses, the proper indefinite article still counts!
I prefer "Joe the Plumber" Thor, when he was getting his hands dirty as a construction worker and having unkempt facial fluff like the common man.

That was just Thor's way of mingling with the people of Midgard when he lost his Don Blake identity. Tying his hair up and putting on a pair of giant 80s glasses made him look like a jolly hippy!

Brad Millette, Yes, you are...correct!
I vote bearded.

I think I have a comic where Thor fights the Cobra. The battle comes to its climax when Cobra slides up an air vent and Thor is all like "GET BACK HERE DAMMIT"

I have this amusing image in my mind of duke performing his posts before he writes them down, like in full Shatner caricature. I..(waves hands)...think (leans down to one knee)...Ninja Assassin...(looks up to heavens)...will be the best of 2009 (raises both hands in imploring stance)!

And back to the thread, beardless. Hear me out. Bearded, he'll look weird on the screen. This is his first movie. He isn't supposed to be some 40 year old viking captain or something (no matter how cool that is). He's supposed to be some asshole brat of a killing machine. So looking young fits his character.

Ali, Alas, I am no trained seal, I do not...perform. Also...G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra is the best film of...2009!

Ali, I do agree with you about...Thor, being without beard, though. I am even more excited for...Thor, than I am for either...Iron Man 2 or Captain America. Of course when the call of...AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!, rings out in Theaters in May 2012, that has a chance to be the...Biggest Superhero Epic, Slugfest of all time!
I hope that some of the...Asgardian Foes, that Thor battles are...Frost Giants, as they are very cool indeed. Thor is basically a superhero story, combined with Lord Of The Rings, and is just so epic, it must verily be told in...Shakespearian Tome. Asgardian Gods, speaking normal english...I say thee NAY!

Duke brings up an important point.

Next question!

Should Thor speak in old-timey Shakespeare talk? Regular Marvel (mostly)/Ultimates divide here. Personally, I think he should cut that shit out. He's from Asgard, a pagan heaven from a religion dating a 1000 years before Hamlet. Why the hell would he be throwing "thous" and "thees" around?

Because its freaking awesome...but i admit it would look silly onscreen, unless Thor was voiced by Brian Blessed or something:

Marvel went overboard with the THINE THY THEE THOU DIDST DOTH!!!!!!!!! for a while, but he's back to speaking like he did during the Simonson days. Which is good.
As long as they don't overdo it, I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of cod-Shakespeare talk. It emphasizes that he's old, inhuman, and not from around here. It's probably less dissonant to hear an overtly archaic fantasy dude talking like that than it is to watch one of those modern-day Shakespeare productions, like the Ethan Hawke Hamlet.
I like the Shakesepearean English. It's not just the English of Hamlet, it's also the English of the King James Bible. In addition to the excellent connotations The Prankster pointed out above, the dialect communicates the Asgardians' sheer power in a novel (i.e., non glowy, non CG) way.
Count me in for beardless. And is anyone else pumped for the upcoming 'Siege' story line? Finally, we get to see Thor kick the Sentry's ass!
The above "Human Cobra" art is by Don Heck, not Jack Kirby I think - although it's a bit leading to show a campy cover from '63 next to a brooding simonson portrait from 86, retouched in the last few years.

That said, if one goes beardy, they all go beardy and no-one really wants a beard fest. Except rock Hudson maybe.

I vote ultimate - tidy and functional, with a touch of christian rock.

Incidentally human cobra became cobra and ultimately king cobra when he took over the serpent society.

I am also quite pumped for siege although the hype is just getting too damn repetitive.

THIS IS IT< WHAT WE"VE BEEN BUILDING TO THROUGH DISASSEMBLED, HOUSE OF M, SECRET WAR, CIVIL WAR, SECRET INVASION IT ALL ENDS HERE! Fuck off.

I would also look forward to seeing Sentry have his fucking head caved in with a uru hammer.

It sems they have already dropped who's gonna die this time:

Herc

Which is a bit of a shame. After all when the wasp was killed no-one (AT ALL) gave a shit in any way.

Which is the most recent and decent treatment?
