Mad Men

Honest to god, I tried looking for a previous thread on this and couldn't find one except for the thread for the third season.

That aside, I blasted through seasons 1 and 2 and was just hooked, if Douglas Sirk had created a TV series, it would probably be something like this, Little Children set in the fifties. Don and Betty Draper are more or less grownup children, Don is playing at being the husband and father but he really just has no concept of what should make his wife happy, he answers her complaints with 'what do you want me to say?' which is such an evasive question, whatever answer Betty gives, he'll just tell her what she wants to hear. In a way, Betty looks to Don almost like a father than a husband, which I guess is the point, she's not an equal to Don, she has emotional tantrums like a child.

You could also call Pete Campbell a child who think he's an adult, although he starts out a prick who feels he should get what he wants and when he doesn't, he becomes vindictive, he does start to become more sympathetic due to his daddy issues and his struggle to accept he'll never be as successful as his parents want him to be.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these characters react to Kennedy's assassination, assuming they cover it in Season 3.

"site: chud.com/forum 'Mad Men'."

I would just go back in the forums and look -- there was a good one Ripoll started about Peggy, for example. I think the DVD forum has a season one review that has some good chatter, too.

I'm like five episodes behind on the third season and have remained pretty spoiler free, but yes, best show ever.
