The Human Target...Fox 1/17/10

Finally, an actual...80's style action series lands on tv. The Human Target has a lot of...lame shows in it's crosshairs, and it begins January 17th at...8pm on Fox ch 5. The regular air date is wednesday, and the time is...9pm, starting January 20th. Mark Valley is...Christopher Chance, aka The Human Target. Chi Mc Bride is his sidekick, Winston, and their P.I. Is Rorscach himself...Jackie Earle Haley as Guerrero.

I am actually really looking forward to this. Keen Eddie is my personal favorite "killed before its time" series, and I'm happy to see Valley get another show. Just hope he gets to show how funny he was in Keen Eddie in this.

BillyG, From the most recent ad, for the series, Mark Valley gets the type of quips that Schwarzenegger had in his classic 80's action films.

It was a terrific comic, but I don't have the feeling they're going for the same vibe here.

I just saw the pilot to...The Human Target on Jet Blue, and it is...Awesome! It is truly an...80's style action series, filled with quips, collateral damage, gun play, an attractive female guest star (Tricia Helfer), and non stop action. This series has the potential to...blow away it's...Target audience, with action this good not seen on tv, since...Hunter.

I'm intrigued by the trailer, and it looks quite different from the comic, not to say the previous show.

We'll see when/if it makes it way over to the UK.
This show looks like it spends it's entire budget on gun fights and explosions. Bring it on.
I can only hope they bring back Rick Springfield for a cameo.
I've often thought Valley was a better than the stuff he gets cast in, and this will probably be no exception. But I'll give it a try if the opening theme has lyrics.
This show is not the first '80s throwback in a long time. Burn Notice and Chuck brought back that light, episodic style a few years ago.
Sometimes, like with Ninja Assassin, a title is enough to get me to watch. Human Target is a go for me.

Pop Zeus, I do not find...Burn Notice either enjoyable, or drenched in 80's action like...The Human Target is. Chuck is my favorite series, but they veer from action to the Buy More, so, I again say, what I believe to be true, That...The Human Target is the closest to an 80's action series since...Hunter! You enjoy...Burn Notice though.

Just because you don't watch something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, fleed. '80s action shows don't fall into only this narrow category as you choose to remember them. Most shows (especially from the '80s and prior) only had one big set piece per episode because they were too expensive to shoot.

Pop Zeus, One set piece per ep? You must have been watching other action shows. To me, an...80's action show, that is great includes...The A-Team, Airwolf, T.J. Hooker, Hunter, Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Blue Thunder, Sledge Hammer, The Master, The Fall Guy, and Cover Up. Those series had plenty of action. To me, action includes, car chases, bar fights, shooting etc. If there are other series you are remembering, I would like to hear your favorites.

In just two days...The Human Target...Explodes onto fox at 8pm sunday night. Then it...blends into it's regular time slot of...9pm wednesday January 20th.
Well, that was super fun. Mark Valley sells badass really well. That fight on the train was kinda damn awesome. Add JEH being all short and threatening (Nah, I'll just take my beating and then kill you in the middle of the night.) and Chi being...well, Chi, I think I have a new favorite popcorn show. This would totally fit well next to Burn Notice, Psych and White Collar on USA.

So, yes, while, like most human beings, I hate to like something duke fleed does, Human Target is really fucking cool.
Are they going to rerun this?
I don't think so. Just the next episode on Wednesday, it's normal time.
I think that they are re-airing the first episode after Tuesday's American Idol.

McG might make some terrible movies but he sure does know how to produce some kick ass TV shows.
Mark Valley deserves a hit show so very much after Keen Eddie. Here's hoping this is it.
Thanks Ben w! Got a soft-spot for DC's 70s weirdness.

Phil, Ben W is correct, there is a re-airing of the pilot ep of...The Human Target at...9pm after Idol...Tuesday.

According to Sepinwall, "I'm a fan of the Vertigo version of the comic book character, and I was briefly annoyed that the show bore so little resemblance to either the Peter Milligan comics or even the original Len Wein version. But in the end I let that go and accepted this was an action show that happened to borrow the title and the name Christopher Chance, turned my brain off and had fun watching stuff blow up."

I know nothing of the comic and mostly, it just seemed like a highly skilled badass ruining bad gentlemen's days. Like 24, without the bullshit.

Totally check it out tomorrow. Damn fun and the end...well, you know that Zombieland cameo they didn't want you to talk about...?

Yeah, that really came out of nowhere.
The DC comics Human Target was a disguise guy. The TV version seems to be more of a really good bodyguard.

I liked the RUNAWAY BULLET TRAIN pilot. This show has potential because Mark Valley has a sense of humor and is good at being "Mr. Calm and Cool". And yes, the cameo came out of nowhere. Hearing these words again was quite a treat!

"You crayzeh???????"
Yeah, I kind of liked this. Hadn't even heard of it until a few days ago, and have no idea who Mark Valley is (never watched Keen Eddie), but he is very likable, and I don't think he's in danger of playing this thing too straight.

I hope Haley is given more to do in future episodes. His slimy mystery man was compelling, but seemed kind of tacked onto this episode. He served no real purpose, the hero already figured out who the bad guy was while still on the train.

But I'm not going to nitpick the structure of a pilot action adventure TV series. This may not be the best approach to take, but frankly I'm just glad it was watchable. Fox seems to be giving it a good push, judging by the American Idol lead in.
The comic's concept is far more interesting and the this is the bad guy music as pretty annoying, but I'll gve it another episode to win me over. The idea of Chance losing it made more sense in the comic. Hey, Danny Glover!
Was alright. Hopefully Haley will get more to do in the future. Can't dislike much of anything with random Glover.
Heh. Next week we should get Mel Gibson.
The fight on the train was excellent!
Really fun. Had no idea Haley was in this. The three leads all are deserving actors (especially after Keen Eddie and Pushing Daisies). If you liked Valley in this I highly recommend getting Keen Eddie.
It was decent but I really wish it was more like the comic. With current make-up fx & cgi it would've been possible.

What I loved in the comic was when Chance struggled to lose his previous clients persona. It made the character darker & more interesting.

Looks like DC is reprinting the first two OOP mini-series in one volume which are the best in the bunch IMO.

I'm going to take a look at the TPBs at the comic shop this weekend. Worth picking up?

Yeah, all you need to do is look at the Mission:Impossible movies. I guess Valley wouldn't be as interested in playing a role where he's replaced by another actor a lot of the time.
The commercials every break during every Fox shows were annoying but this was alot of fun. Keen Eddie was greatness and I'm glad Valley is back.

Definitely, but keep in mind it's nothing like the show.
Hey, this was fun despite it violating my no-Simon West Rule of Enjoyment. Nice, snappy script, although the actual villain was a bit of a let down. Good cast. Never really had much of an opinion of Mark Valley either way (didn't leave much of an impression from Fringe and what I remember about Keen Eddie was Sienna Miller prancing around in her underwear) but he's solid as Chance. A lot like Burn Notice, actually.

This man speaks the truth; in a fair world, "Keen Eddie" should had been a smash hit and Valley a superstar (No wonder the guy got talked a lot among comic book fans as a great choice for Captain America).
Im going to watch the shit out of this when it airs here.
I wasn't overly impressed, but I'll give it another episode or two. It was okay, didn't leave a huge impression on me.
Currently watching ep. 2, and it's pretty good. Worth watching...
I guess they decided to tweak Haley's character by having him say DUDE a lot.

That episode is just, Plane,...Awesome! It really...Jets, along, Fuled by top notch action, that is always, on...Target! Next week, because of the...State Of The Union, Fox takes a...Chance, and airs...The Human Target...Tuesday at 9pm, after the weekly dose of...IDOLatry!
Not bad at all. Big stunts (for TV at least), good fights and good leads. Let's see where they go with this.
Anybody else bored out of their skull by the one last night?
Yeah, the 'oh, just plug the laptop in here and replace the flight computer' thing was pretty stupid. And at the end I had to wonder how they knew that Lt. Gaeta wasn't going to use the encryption cracking for nefarious reasons as well.

Still, at least mildly entertaining.
I just don't know why a show like this would go the non-linear route. What's the point?

Oh well, hopefully that new Spartacus show can serve up the cheap thrills that this one is lacking.
Yeah it wasn't that great. The main guy seemed bored this time around. And the comic relief stuff stunk.

Moltisanti, Wadew1, I have not been bored in either episode, and I feel everything about the series is on...Target! So, neither of you found, Winston, undercover as a...flight attendant funny? How about, when Winston asked CC, if his mood would improve, by him flipping the car over? I also liked hearing CC, remind the flight attendant, that she is not a...stewardess.
I could not for the life of me place the female kidnapper, altho I knew I had seen her recently in something. She was in a fair bit of Dexter last season.
the female flight attendant reminded of the "little person" from an episode of House. All in all ..an ok episode
