Mine is broke too. No matter what I review it tells me I would love every Mystery Science theater. I've even clicked not interested on them and they won't go away.

For awhile, no matter what I searched for, WATERHORSE and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS were near the top of the result list.

You really should watch MST3K though

I got the Waterhorse thing for a while. If Netflix didn't have the movie I was searching for it was always the first result.

I wish I could remember the exactly details, but when I first started up with Netflix a couple years back, it informed me that if I enjoyed Seven Samurai, I'd love this Nova special about giant squid.

It told me since I loved Punch-Drunk Love and Wendy and Lucy, I would love The Room. I dare someone to beat that.

I feel your pain, DM.

For what it's worth, the missing picture in that link was a screenshot of my Netflix recommendations. It was trying to tell me that I should love "Strange Brew" because I enjoyed "Night of the Hunter".

Hey! Wait a second... I DO enjoy both those films. Maybe Netflix is wiser than we could possibly imagine.

Got a good one today:

Because I like Rocky, Food, Inc. and 30 Rock: Season 3 Netflix Recommends:

UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir

I barely qualify as a passing UFC fan(I know of both Lesnar and Mir), and I've never rated a UFC-related DVD, so this one is a little random. They even predict a 4.3 rating from me!

Who knew vegan Sly Stallone and Tracy Morgan fans were into MMA.

I learned a long time ago to not admit to the Netflix filter that I liked Akira, Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis. Those three anime saw me swamped with anime suggestions, and otherwise I'm really not huge into anime. Sometimes I get the feeling they're just trying to push stuff, but other times it appears to just be a crazy filter.

I was posting about this under NETFLIX problems the other day.

When I first joined, the recommendations were spot on. The only problem was that I'd seen most of what they suggested. That was find though, sometimes it would remind me to add things to my queue that I had not seen in a while

But these days I basically have stopped rating stuff on the site. I don't know if it's that their recommendation system has gotten worse, or what, but these days there is a ton of stuff I never rate because I know NETFLIX will misinterpret why I liked it and spam me with a million lame suggestions

Here is a WTF?! recomendation:

Because I enjoyed ED WOOD and THE (UK) OFFICE

I might enjoy...

Grizzly Man?

Huh?

I mean, yes, I like that movie, but I don't understand how they arrived at that from ED WOOD

I was recently told (about five minutes ago, after I decided to rate it as a "five star" movie) that since I enjoyed NINJA ASSASSIN, I should watch IRREVERSIBLE because of my preference for "visually striking revenge movies"

To be fair, Irreversible does feature someone being repeatedly struck in the eyes with a fire extinguisher.

I've been getting some hilarious ones lately, particularly from the Instant Watch interface on XBox. After watching some of the gory, Troma distributed Belgian horror comedy RABID GRANNIES, Netflix suggested some "similar" titles, which included THE GODFATHER PART III (because it's horrific how bad it is compared to the other two?), LEGENDS OF THE FALL (because Anthony Hopkins kinda looks like a grandma these days?), THE THIN RED LINE (because... um... blood is red?), and DEAD MAN WALKING (a thinly veiled insult to Susan Sarandon?).

But the best was sort of the inverse phenomenon, which was after I watched A TOWN CALLED PANIC, the first "if you liked this, you'll like this" recommendation was MAN BITES DOG! I guess cause they're both Belgian films? Surprised RABID GRANNIES didn't show up. Maybe it did further down the list. I just love the idea of a naive parent putting that on for their children after they loved TOWN CALLED PANIC and blowing their fragile little minds.

Kate, I'd like to think IRREVERSIBLE was intended by Netflix as punishment for you rating NINJA ASSASSIN five stars.

I'm not denying that's it's literally or figuratively 'visually striking', I'm highlighting the absurdity of NETFLIX saying that it would appeal to me because I enjoyed a violent movie about ninjas

EDIT: Dan,

Personally, I like to think that NETFLIX saying that NA is "visually striking" is a reward for my five star rating! Just the other night I was in the chatroom arguing (for like 30 minutes) with an individual who used to post under the user name "fabfunk" over whether or not NINJA ASSASSIN was ruined by being under lit. Good to know NETFLIX sides with me on the subject of the movies visuals. Take that, fabfunk!
