The Decade in TV: Great Moments, Shows, and Other

Let's do this shit:

"Matt, Matt, you're being glib. You don't understand the history of psychology. I do."

"Every man, at some point in his life, is going to lose a battle. He's going to fight, and he's going to lose. But what makes him a man is that in the midst of that battle, he does not lose himself."

"This never happened. It will shock you how much this never happened."

Justin Kirk at the end of Angels in America: "You are beautiful creatures, each and every one. And I bless you: More life. The great work begins."

Warren Zevon's last appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, 2002

"Get on with it, motherfuckers!"

"Don't tell me what I can't do!"

Jon Stewart and Letterman's 9/11 monologues. Stewart on Crossfire. Colbert at the correspondent's dinner ("Hindenberg.")

More to come as I think of it. Add your own!

Vic Mackey, laying it all out.

I guess all of The Wire.

And a number of Adama's speeches.
  • Michael Richards' post-meltdown apology on Letterman is the real standout for me. Just a disaster on every level. Because Michael Richards is so naturally hilarious, his awkward pause after "I said some pretty nasty things to some Afro-Americans" elicits only laughter from the confused studio audience, at which point Jerry Seinfeld snaps at them; "STOP LAUGHING, IT'S NOT FUNNY!"

  • The part in Nip/Tuck when Sean's girlfriend took a shit in his hot tub.

  • Rosie O'Donnell getting attacked by an eagle and crashing her hang-glider in Nip/Tuck.

Richard Hatch winning the original Survivor season.

You're forgetting the doctor who fucks couches.

The very last minutes of the season three finales of Lost and Battlestar Galactica.
Doctor Who's "The Empty Child" and "Blink" episodes.

Simply for the heralding the return of the long-missed 'Doctor Who Child Safety Position' (ie - peering out from behind the couch).
The Kodak Carousel pitch and Don coming home to an empty house while "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" plays in Mad Men's "The Wheel".

In Deadwood:
Trixie opening her blouse while she marched to shoot Hearst.. That was some powerful shit.

Al's "give some back" speech.
Angel: "Let's go to work!" Cut to black.
Governor Jim McGreevy coming out of the closet on national TV: The shock of it was huge.

Will I am appearing via Hologram in November 2008. I thought we were in the 23rd century for a second.

Axel destroying the legacy of Guns and Roses at the VMA's.

Lems death on The Shield
Bullock hangs a horse thief in the opening scene of Deadwood.
"That's a deal, ya loud-mouth cocksucker!"
The death toll from the 7 seasons of 24... and Jack's kill count.... and the cougar. Hell, 24 in general.

"I'm Rick James, bitch."

"Gonna have you naked by the end of this song" *rip* --> Janet Jackson's bare boob with ornate decorative accoutrements around the nipple seen around the world.

You all everybody... You all everybody!
Obama at Grant Park 11/04/2008. That was a great moment. I had the pleasure of watching it at the house of my district's precinct captain with my coworkers.
Jon Stewart announces Obama's victory during Comedy Central's election night coverage.

The reveal that we've been flashing forward during the Season 3 finale of Lost.

The Adama maneuver.

All great, but I'm partial to when Christian fucked that HIV-positive lady so hard on a roof that she fell off the ledge and died.

My favorite Nip line of the decade was from Vanessa Redgrave this season:

"Was it me you thought of as you masturbated into my granddaughter's panties?"

Oh, and of course when Obama won.
Charlie Crews finally out of prison, at the end.

Riggins saying goodbye to Street.

Smash leading the team cheer, one last time.
Any of Danny DeVito's moments in this season's Sunny.

-The Trashman ".... and then, I start eatin garbage!"
-Frank emerging from the couch
-Frank's thought's on his burial "Whaddya mean 'bury me'? When I'm dead, just throw me in the trash!"

I'm convinced Danny DeVito is method acting at this point
post #18 of 130
Alec Baldwin pretending to be Tracy Jordan's mother, father and Hispanic Neighbour in 30 Rock is probably one of my favourite comedy moments this decade.

Bunny Colvin's brown paper bag speech in Season 3 of the Wire is a great example of why I love that show so much.
The last 2 hours of The Wire Season 3 are about the best 2 hours of TV I've seen.
"Don't stop believin! Hold onto to that feelin! Streetlight, people, ohhhohh! Don't stop."
The Shield season 7 - Claudette's rant about a young banger's use of the word "nigger".

"I wouldn't waste the word 'nigger' on someone as empty and Godless as you. Too many of our people have died being treated like 'niggers' for me to belittle their suffering."

Small scene but it was absolutely incendiary stuff thanks to the brilliant C. C. H. Pounder.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - "WILD CARD, BITCHES!"

The Wire - Bubbles entire story arch.

Matt Saracen's breakdown at the dinner table in the latest Friday Night Lights. Hell, every scene with Sarcen in that episode would place.

Other magic Nip/Tuck moments:
  • When Christian identified that Famke Janssen was a post-op tranny by having sex with her, and realising thanks to his big horse cock that her vagina was not deep enough to be natural.

  • Matt setting himself on fire while freebasing.
Matt's character throughout the entirety of Nip/Tuck, I don't think I can even remember all the shit they have put that character through but my favorites:
-His attempted self-circumcission
-His long fling with the post op tranny mentioned above
-Getting beat up and peed on by a gang of pre-op trannies/cross dressers
-Sexual relationship with his long lost half sister

From Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles:
-The lead singer from the band Garbage as a T-1000 type terminator.

From Lost:
-The ending of the episode "Walkabout" where it is revealed that John Locke was confined to a wheelchair before the plane crash.
-4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.... fuuuuuuuck
-Locke bangs on the mysterious Hatch in the jungle, "I'VE DONE EVERYTHING YOU WANTED ME TO DO... SO WHY... DID YOU DO THIS... TO MEEE!?"
*light then turns on in the hatch*
-Dr. Arzt and his rant about how unstable old dynamite is, followed by him exploding.
-"Well see, the thing is... We're gonna have to take the boy."
-The "Make your own kind of music" brilliant fakeout opening to season 2.

This and Spaceman in several appearances (like assisting Geiss in a coma).

Carnivale, the boy healing the little girl and taking out an entire crop in the last minutes of the premiere.

Threshold, Carla Gugino running in pijamas in the middle of the night.

Arrested Development:

On Supernatural, giant teddy bear fails to commit suicide.

And, on a more serious note, "She said 'no', by the way".

Lazy Sunday on SNL

Just about everything on The Wire and Friday Night Lights

"He killed my father! HE RAPED ME!" On Veronica Mars and Logan's brief look of rage where you think he might kill Beaver.

Gemma telling Clay and Jax about the rape on Sons of Anarchy.

Just about everything on The Shield. Too hard to choose.

Carmela and Tony's fight on The Soprano's in the season 4 episode Whitecaps. Also, all of College.

Rome: "THIRTEEN!"

Robin Sparkles.

"I'll take my chances." Season 2 finale of Burn Notice.

Chrismukkah on The O.C.

"I'm the crazy bitch around here!" Season 1 finale of Gossip Girl.

All of Alan Shore and Denny Crane's relationship on Boston Legal

Before it became a comedy: "I loved you the most." when Shawn found out Matt was Christian's son and the look of horrified realization on Christian's face on Nip/Tuck

"Black's only" Water fountain on Better off Ted.

Too many to count on Scrubs, but standouts are My Old Lady, My Lunch, My Fallen Idol, My Screwup. So many others.

"I know kung-fu" on Chuck.

Agrestic burns down on Weeds.

Doakes finds out who Dexter really is.

Rome, penultimate episode of the first season.

THIRTEEN!!!

I agree with many of these- Dr Who Blink episode, the Library (spoilers!) episode and of course The Wire.

Something that I thought was great was on Psych: last season they made the theme song "Telemundo-ized" for an episode (spanish soap opera ep) and this season they had the theme song "Bollywood-ized".
It's been ahwile since I've seen Rome. I know there were a lot of moments I thought were great... The first one that comes to mind is the scene where Pullo assassinates Cicero.
Yea Rome's thirteen has to be my favorite, that was pure awesome.

You're right. "Your wife's pussy tasted like sweet butter" warms my heart though.

Also, Forrest Whitaker's character's "He's pissing on us!" rant about Mackey was pretty great.

Oh, and the fake name that Shane always used, "Cletus Van Damme"

Those boys could really rack. My father had me on the straight, but like any young man, I wanted to be hard too, so I'd turn up at all the house parties where the tough boys hung. Shit, they knew I wasn't one of them. Them hard cases would come up to me and say, "Go home, schoolboy, you don't belong here." Didn't realize at the time what they were doing for me. As rough as that neighborhood could be, we had us a community. Nobody, no victim, who didn't matter. And now all we got is bodies, and predatory motherfuckers like you. And out where that girl fell, I saw kids acting like Omar, calling you by name, glorifying your ass. Makes me sick, motherfucker, how far we done fell.

Mime Matt.

-Matt killing his cellmate after his cellmate became enraged at Matt for trying to slip medication into his Ho-Hos that would kill his sex drive. This after Matt's cellmate tried to force Matt to get Christian to give him breast implants.

-Dina Meyer as the lady afraid of getting breast cancer who cut her own tit off in the McNamara/Troy waiting room (Choice Christian quote from that one: "Those are two of the healthiest tits I've ever put my dick between.").

The Federer/Nadal 2008 Wimbledon final.

Adrian Brody mouth-raping Halle Berry upon winning his Oscar.

U2's 9/11 tribute version of Where The Streets Have No Name during the 2002 Super Bowl halftime show.

* When Kimber loaned Sean a Realdoll created in her likeness, and then Sean had sex with it, and when Kimber came round to his house the next morning to pick it up he had forgotten to clean the cum out of it.

* Matt being alarmed to find that the post-op tranny he had picked up in a nightclub was actually a pre-op tranny, and savagely beating her.
-Many think it's one of the weaker seasons of the show, but the final couple minutes of the penultimate episode of Season 2 of The Wire gave me goosebumps and had me rabidly awating the finale.

-Mike Kellerman getting shot in the face in the series premiere of The Shield...I did not see that coming
post #43 of 130
The Columbia disaster. I remember watching it start as local coverage of a routine shuttle landing, and the slow realization that something terrible had happened as it became a network story.

Also from the first episode of The Shield. Mackey walks into the interrogation room with a beat up paper bag and pulls out, a phone book, a box cutter and a bottle of whiskey.

Spooge's death on Breaking Bad.
I have to third the 'Thirteen' scene from Rome and add the "I am a son of Hades, I fuck Concord is her ass!"

As for BSG I'd add the entirety of '33' and the attack on the Cylon home base to the atmospheric drop.

'Fuck' from the Wire should of course be mentioned.

And Stewart's "Fuck all y'all" in response to Palin's speech about real Americans.
From THE SHIELD: Season 2 finale. With 'Overcome' by Live playing, Vic walks down and sees the huge pile of cash from the Money Train, and his look of greed quickly changes when he sees everyone else is shit-scared.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, last season finale:

Adama's last big speech before they storm the Cylon baseship looking for Hera:

"Be under no illusions! This is likely to be a one way trip!!!"

Season 2: When they find the temple of Athena and see the stars the way they look from Earth. Adama's wistful line about system M8: "That's a long way from here."" Although this is diminshed now that we realise the Earth they are talking about is a dead, nuked planet.
Also from Season 2, In THE FARM when Starbuck leaves Anders, thinking it's probably the last time she'll see him. Not realising he's a Cylon.

Tons of others.
