The Decade in TV: Great Moments, Shows, and Other - Page 2

Saturday Night Live 1999-2000 thru 2002-2003

The last time it mattered. Show was still able to hit political commentary along with the goofy. Highlights: "More cowbell". Will Ferrell patriotically wearing American flag speedos. Carvey as Bush I contemplating mercy killing W. after failing in attempt to talk about the responsibilities of the Presidency during a hunting trip.

"Chris, go fuck yourself" from the The Office finale.

Adam not avoiding the car bomb in the opener to series 6 of Spooks, what a great effect that was.

Also, the female agent, who had been set up as a major character, getting her head shoved in boiling oil and then shot early on in the first series of Spooks.

Tony Todd takes The White House (through an easily accessible sewer!) in season 7 of 24 and all of Jon Voight's character, "Let's play DARTS!"

All of The Wire, but Carver's breakdown outside the kids home at the end of season 4 was gut wrenching and McNulty's 'funeral' in season 5 was heartwarming in equal measure.

Pretty much every episode in the 6 series' of Peep Show, has there been a more consistent comedy this decade?

Another vote for the last couple of minutes of the season 3 finale of Lost and all of the most recent season finale.

Bernard filling in his tax return in Black Books, "My mother's maiden name?! I don't even know her first name!". Dylan Moran should be in more stuff.
Also the episode were Manny is 'groomed' by Omid Djiali's beard fetishist, "I can give you your dreams, I can give you the whole MILKAAY WAY!"

DEXTER SPOILER

The death of Doakes. He runs towards the gas tap in slo mo, mouthing MOTHER FUCKER (I love that that was his last line, so appropriate... hell, I bet Doakes' mom would tell you those were his first words too). Then he's blown to bits. As convenient as it was for plot purposes, it was still a great death scene. According to the imdb Erik King hasn't done any acting since they killed his character off, which is just not right.

One could go on and on for The Wire, I'll limit it to one per season:

1. "Believe it or not, not everything is about you."
2. "We used to make shit in this country, build shit."
3. Like a Hieronymous Bosch painting of hell
4. "You gonna look out for me, Sgt. Carver? You mean it?"
5. McNulty gets profiled

Vic's confession has already been mentioned, but two other moments from The Shield that stick with me are both meltdowns; Vic and Kavanaugh.

The Kavanaugh meltdown is top notch. He comes off as a total raving lunatic but EVERYTHING he says is 100% correct (he's like Cassandra in Greek mythology) and the Chief is setting up such a tragic series of events by not listening.

Someone mentioned the Battlestar "Adama maneuver" which is certainly great, but I'd also put forward for your consideration the Battle of the Resurrection Ship.

Ok, so the turn this thread took should've signified that people were just wildly posting spoilers. But still...

Fuck. You.

You could've put a warning around that shit.

Well thank christ for that. I about had a heart attack at the sheer casualness of that spoiler.

Why would you come into this thread if you were worried about spoilers?
Come off it, the whole thread is full of spoilers for season finales of a lot of shows. I haven't seen any of The Shield and now I know what happens at the end to all of the characters, I know should have quit the thread once I saw a couple but I didn't.

And it's most definitely not what you think it is.

The Japanesse are looking at the model homes when a giant mole starts destorying everything - Arrested Development

From the Freaks and Geeks episodes that aired in 2000, during the initial run:

Neal with the garage door opener. The final scene, with Ripple playing in the background.

A big yes to these!

Was it the finale that had Franco playing D & D with the geeks? Loved that.
Yeah- Carlos the Dwarf! I know the show should have been a hit, etc... but I really like the way it ended, with everyone in transition.
Can't believe we've made it this far without mention of the final ten minutes of the Six Feet Under series finale. That Sia song is cloying as hell removed from the visuals, but as used in the finale, it's fucking magic.

News:
- Congress standing up and singing "God Bless America" after the 9/11 attacks.
- Obama's election night coverage.

LOST:
- Desmond and Penny's phone call at the end of "The Constant".
- The Walt-napping. Jesus, the image of that kid drifting farther and farther away from the raft, screaming out for his dad - I still get chills.
- Charlie Pace's death. Only this show could make me cry over the death of a character I hated.

The Office:
- Pam's beach speech.
- Jim and Pam getting married by the Captain on The Maid of the Mist.

Can't leave out Pushing Daisies:

Olive Snook sings "Hopelessly Devoted To You"

For Freaks and Geeks, I have trouble deciding between Nick singing to Lindsay and the last scene in Tests and Breasts.

And second the love for the zombie trout episode of The Middleman.

Buffy and Willow using the scythe to awaken all potential slayers in 'Chosen'.

Oh, if we're getting into sports moments, Ronde Barber's interception return shutting down the Vet and sending the Bucs to the Super Bowl. Never saw the end of the play live because I was being mobbed by other Bucs fans.

I just mentioned the Sox and D-Backs because of their historical significance (Curse of the Bambino and the shadow of 9/11, respectively.)

No way does The Sarah Conner Chronicles deserve to be anywhere near this list. God that show was awful.

A couple of sporting moments, Liverpool coming back from 3-0 down against Milan at half time in the 2005 European Cup final to win on penalties. Goddamn, that was a magical night.
Gerrard scoring a 30 yard screamer in added time in the 2006 FA Cup final to save the game.

Breaking Bad, Walter demostrates the power of chemistry in the drug dealers office.

The whole of the Doctor Who episode, Blink. Actually scary and unsettling.

God damn it. I say again, "AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED?"

...stupid show getting canceled too early. grumble, grumble.

I'll add:

-Santonio Holmes dipping his toes into the corner of the end zone to win Super Bowl XLIII.

-The Bullock-Swearengen throwdown (or anything and everything having to do with "Deadwood").

-The immediate aftermath of Oceanic Flight 815's collision with the Island.

-Charlie going America all over everybody's asses.

-Fry playing the holophonor for Leela with his own hands.

-Is it Abed? No, it's Batman.

The Angel season 4 episode "Apocalypse Nowish" also known as "Rain of Fire" (I think).

All of the main characters go up against "The Beast" a huge badass demon and in an epic battle (that has Wesley going guns akimbo, matrix style) utterly GET THEIR ASSES HANDED TO THEM. The Beast then proceeds to blot out the sun in Los Angeles, the start of many things that need to be done to bring about an apocalypse.

From 24:
Season 6 has a nuclear device detonated in a neighborhood in LA during the 4th episode. Sadly the rest of the season was ABSOLUTE TRASH and didn't live up to the awesomeness of the first 4 episodes for that season.

From Dexter:
Season 4: Thanksgiving at Trinity's freaks even Dexter out. The special thanksgiving blessing "Shut up, cunt" from John Lithgow to his wife was heartwarming.

Arthur lets off some steam screaming "STUPID.... FUCKING.... CUUUNT!" while in his van.

That episode was great too for Josh gaining the President's trust again and showing he still had it.
